Reply to WB & DX Can we combine the best of both? in Skinning WinCustomize Forums

Hey David! I have already done this a several month ago for SD Desktop. This is a little tool which can change current WB skin and(or) Toolbar Icons. It uses Shutdown dialog box and these icons for a simple preview. Let me know if you need this code and I'll send it for you (as a code because it is not a widget).

I don't use widgets anymore as a separate applications because I have done the full-fledged desktop where integrated system info, weather, todo, events list, clock, calendar etc... There are only three things that I use (but as a gadgets) - Media Player, Launch Bar and Skin Shecker. So I use DesktopX only for development. Ok. I undestood how you have realized this. But it would be exactly cool if the widget will find and change its skin automatically. This may be possible if its form will be "friendly" for some WB skin parts... So let's think about. (Sorry that I don't see your next post...)

For c242: I think that "Skinable" widgets will be the next generation of these applications. You and RomanDA have already done the first step on this direction. And this is very good. I have no time to work on this yet but I can give you a several advices that help you to make the next step. 1. Please look at the DX documentation: OnKeyPress(key): Fired when a key is entered, returns the ASCII value of the key. You may use this method to type/enter the text but you may not use it to get/send a code of special keys like Alt, Ctrl, etc... More over for two keys which pressed together. Now look at the System.Clipboard and System.KeyState(key) methods. This may really help you.

To Zubaz: I'm not sure that we need separate galleries by type. So I agree with you. But I think that we must search the way how to make Widget Gallery much interesting for people. As well as I think that a hundreds of skins that just attached to the same old script (which has no any changes by the way) can not be called WIDGETS and be valued as a WIDGETS.
