That is one of the things I love about Capitalism. It seems like no matter how devistating something is there is always somebody standing there going "Cha-Ching".

Well, I probably wouldn't invest in the successful conclusion of anything in Russia at the moment. That haven't had a lot of success with successful conclusion. I would say that I think that bad policy, much like bad investments, can only be truely understood in hindsight. There are certain policies and investments that look like sure losers from the beginning (say Nazism and AlmostEverything.com) but there are lot of people who think they w

Im glad youre not my broker. Do you think your broker can predict the future? I prefer my broker to consider, just consider, the possibility that he is wrong. In fact I would prefer him to consider that before he did anything. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 class="

First off, you are very e.e. cummings and I don't like it. You write fairly well but without the capitalization at the beginning of sentences you cause everything to crush together. Maybe it is a technical problem but it looks deliberate. I think there are some better examples: Adolph Hitler. Strong, resolute, unwavering. Fits him to a tee. Bad policy. Yasser Arafat. Strong, resolute, unwavering. Bad policy. But y

I do not believe perfection is something that is achieavable in this life. My idea of a better world would be one where no one is forced to live for the benefit of another. Nobody is given anything, they earn it in whatever way that they can. Fear not for the people who can not provide for themselves because in my world they would not exist.

I just though to check in on you and what do you know the last person I read and the last person I commented on have both commented here. Congratulations. I noticed you got more than you were expecting...I am going to read the article but in case you didn't respond there how did you do it?

I have said it before, I will say it again: to me, the choice between Bush and Kerry is like being forced to choose between elk shit and moose shit. Sorry, but I'm above that. This statement comes off as awful pretentious. Did you really mean that you are better than all of us who deign to vote for the two

I don't know what political expediency means. I know what a lie is. I also know what a valid compromise is. Because you know that your guy has no shot at getting elected dog catcher let alone President (I assume that is what they are running for) then you also know that not voting for the candidate you agree with the most is the same as voting for the candidate you agree with least. I believe you know this. Maybe you don't agre

I don't consider low voter turn out a bad thing. If I were emperor, I woudl require that people pass some sort of IQ test or something to vote. I don't think voting should be easier, I think people should have to put some effort to vote so that they're serious about it. A wise man once said "You don't v

One reason people don't vote is that their individual vote doesn't matter. People make a purely rational decision that their individual vote makes no difference in the outcome, and therefore don't bother to--even though they may be well-informed. This is harmful for society. That sounds to me like excus

Me...I believe I should go have a nice cold beer and a slice of pizza and sit down with my wife and plan our next trip to Disney World. You might believe that I am bringing this up just to brag about the fact that I am going to Disney World...and I believe you are right. See, now all our beliefs are out in the open. </fo

That's not true. I'll accept credible evidence - in fact, people who know me say that, along with my capacity for critical thinking, my ability to completely change my mind is among my strengths. Ok. Maybe I am wrong...I have a hard time coorelating that with your statements...but maybe that's my bias.

I am pretty sure that throughout the course of history nobody every changed another man's opinion by starting off by calling him an idiot. Ok, I have no real evidence of that but I am pretty sure it wouldn't work with me and I am, on more than a few occasions, an idiot. Extrapolating from there I can guess that a lot of people are going to be offended and

They "just don't think" that CO2 emissions are having any effect on global warming, and offer up some strange and bizarre reasons, without any support from any reasonably credible source What you don't seem to understand is that you are a zealot. Since your mind is made up there is no credible source you would accept. So when I say you automa

. I was just agreeing with what you stated that you can't determine which company would be successful and it turns out that you are a stock picker. Didn't you say that nobody could predict which company in a particular class would be successful. Both sides are equally guilty of too much noise not enough facts. It is almost as if policy is made for the person who shouts the loudest. I believe it is because a lot of these debates rise to the level of religion for the participants. There is no compromise in faith, there is belief and non-belief but there is no middle ground. For many there are no compromise on these issues in much the same way. Constructive discussion is unlikely in

I just looked up a bunch of different definitions for response bias and it is not what I think you are implying. Link I don't think voting doesn't have response bias because it is private and you are not under pressure to conform. Nobody knows what you really voted. What you are trying to say is decisions are made by those who show up and I think that is e

I've read portions of the report. I have found the report without your help, thank you very much, and I promise you I will read it over time (it is kind of involved). But I also have read portions of the report...specifically the portion you cited Chapter 3. What strikes me intially is how boldly they go from the evidence (rising CO2) to the conclusion...I was always of the opinion that the Scientific Method left a little room for doubt. An

My feeling is that Brad built his business by the seat of his pants. He had a fair amount of things go his way and more than a few that didn't. What is important is how he rolled with the punches and changed his approaches. There are many places in his story where he could have easily given up and many of us would. But, for whatever reason, he pushed through. I think that successfull people generally look to leverage their ideas and knowle
