Actually I meant the statement about capital gains tax having a lower tax rate, thus making shares and real estate a more effective way of earning money than actually working. It doesn't make as much, but more of it is made in the clear. Of course that is currently the case (at least in the US). <BR

I think he is talking about Modern Portfolio Theory. Just a guess, I cannot see where diversified porfolios is brought up in the rest of the conversation so I think it might be based on Lobo's assertion of this: And while you may cast aspersions on my character, background, education, interests, etc, it's pa

I can't or don't claim to know anything about it. I will say, however, when people like yourself start treating their theories as fact (such as putting it in quotes) then you have a bit of a problem. It can certainly be demonstrated that the planet has warmed over a certain period of time. The cause of the warming cannot be proven only speculated. The effect of the warming cannot be proven only speculated. The solution to the warming can only be

Hey Jay, What is the most important book, article, etc. about this topic that you have read? What was the clincher for you that made it clear to you that this is absolutely true?

Here is my American answer: We gain nothing by forcing people to vote who would not do so by choice except chaos. I will fight all day with a man with whom I disagree but spare not a moment for a man with no opinion. Forcing them to vote doesn't force them to develop an opinion it only forces them to make a choice. Change the landscape...probably not. Abuses in the system...the system is an abuse.

"If you don't like it get out"...where have we heard that before...oh yeah, it was followed by the word "hippy". Maybe he believes he can do more on the inside than out. Maybe he is just holding on to an honerable past. Maybe he is just stubborn. Or maybe he doesn't feel like he left the party but the party left him. Maybe he feels like the party should be tolerant of dissenting opinions. Whatever you want to believe...but the dud

It seems to me that it is becoming increasingly taboo to observe and judge other's flaunting taboos. It is almost an axiom that no man can judge another’s lifestyle because he does not really understand it. Someone is close minded when he is not accepting of other people’s choices. They are prejudiced when their morality and beliefs do not permit them to be approvi

Absolutely if it was risk free why would you waste your time selling it...just invest in it. My favorite one was a comic strip (don't remember which one) that had the character reading an ad in the newspaper that said "Make money risk free - send me $50.00 and I will tell you how." The last panel shows the guy getting a letter that says "Put an add in the newspaper saying "Make money risk free - send me $50.00 and I will tell you how".

People who say you can make money without risk have been around for a long, long time. They have always had an audience too. There are always people who are willing to believe you can get something for nothing. There is one born every minute and W.C. Fields believed you shouldn't give them an even break. People are swindled every day by people offering gre

If you took your 12.9 Billion dollars and gave it out to the 35.9 Million people supposedly living in poverty in the US they would get a nice check for $368.57. That's if I am doing the math right, and I think I am. That is not going to help anyone. You increase that to 100 times that amount and you are giving a nice check for $36,000.00. But then the question is what are they going to do with it? My bet is that a large number of them are

Maybe I am wrong but I suspect, on many levels, you enjoy being this busy...or I should say this productive. It has to feel good, even as it is also draining, to be building something. For the most part I see the schedule of a man moving things forward, building interest in himself and his company, and making sure the ship is running like you want. Tiring maybe...but it must also be very rewarding or you would just stop doing it (unless you

Yes...wasn't your point that the government is wasting money by not 'splodin them in the desert? What I was trying to say is that the environmental regulations regarding of an explosion probably makes it a pain in the ass in the long run to do it.

I suspect it is because blowing up munitions is entangled by a huge amount of environmental red tape that a plant such as yours does not. Blowing up munitions has the net effect of dispersing contaminants all over the place. I suspect your process keeps them contained. There was a time they used to just bury them. Then they used to blow them up. Now they are resorting to this. Some day the red tape will catch up to this and they w

Crusader, you were the one to inspired me to write this but it is not really about you. This is really about me. I am chaining up my inner dreamer because for far too long he has been dreaming and not doing. I plan to lock him away...but I will occasionally consult with him but he can no longer be in charge. He cannot lead because he does not know the way...but he might be usefull when I get stuck and have nowhere else to turn. I believe that those

Let me tell you a story about dreamers… My company bought another company. As it happened they both had a location in the same area that they decided to consolidate. For my department they decided to place a guy from the purchased company in charge. His name was Bill. One day my boss let me know a little bit about Bill’s philosophy.

This movie has a lot of slow moments but overall it is excellent. You neglected to mention that Harold Abrahams was jewish as well as Eric Liddle being catholic and probably the most important thing is that they were real people and this is a real story. Here is a link about Eric Liddle Link And one about Harold Abrahams <a href="http://www.jewsinsports.org/olympics.asp?sport=olympic

You should check out Sir. Peter's website and you will see that taking what he says seriously or at face value is kind of fruitless. I actually think the guy behind the mask might sympathize with your views...or they are trying to build a brillant satircal reputation. I have read enough of your stuff to realize that you are and I are from two different planets on this issue so I believe you are asking me this in order to justify a feeling you already have. Still, I will bite. The right thing to do with your money is to protect your own situation for you and your family for now and the future. Much like being on an airplane with cabin pressure problems you need to put the mask on your face first and then y

This is not just my belief but also a basic economic fact. I do not care if people starve in order for me to make a profit, they are insignificant to me. Great...give me a citation where I can look up this fact? I would like to have it handy. That's what I was wondering is if maybe you didn't care if people starved and I misunderstood y

For one man to profit another man must starve. This must be your belief...but I don't understand it. There is no point in arguing with you but I will say if you ever profit on anything then you are an incredible hypocrite that allows people to starve. So you are either all right with that or you better start starving yourself.

Since these are the important questions: 22. Do you think we could have a system in the world without money? (barter, sharing) Barter - Sure. Essentially money is barter we just have system to represent the goods and services we provide. Sharing - The only way sharing works is if everyone where willing to give the benefit of their work to everyone else. I am not that optomistic that would happen. Usually what someone means by sha

If money is not important to you then ask yourself this: Are the things I have bought and done with money important to me? If you say no and really mean it then you can truthfully say that money has no meaning. I considered writing this post, to try and be humorous, from the point of view of someone who wanted to eliminate the monetary system and was kind of stymied by the inability to do so. I decided instead to be straight forward. The only alternative that I see to have a monetary system is a system where everyone gets everything they want at no cost to anybody else. This experiment has been tried, and is still being tried, and has not had much
