BTW, anybody knows WHY Microsoft doesn't allow people to make their own themes? It just makes no sense to me... I know it's fabulous for Stardock, but I don't get what Microsoft has to gain or lose by it (?)

If would be nice if we could search all categories at once. As it is now, I have restrict my search to one category only (Windowblinds, DesktopX, etc.). If for example I wish to get the skins for all the apps called "Thredz" at once.

My first touch with the virtual world was as a member, then an admin, in a FirstClass BBS from Softarc (on the Mac platform) in Montreal called Eureka. That was around 1992. Although there were some downloads available, all shareware and freeware, the BBS was mostly constituted of forums (then called "conferences"). That was before newsgroups and the Internet were popular. FirstClass doesn't call itself a BBS system anymore but a "Unified Messaging" system. I just went to take a look, an

Yes, I thought about the crack issue, but I believe that if a crack can't be made, warez junkies will just post the whole app. So, in the end, the result is the same...

For us web designers, no being able to able concurent versions of IE installed in a big pain in the buttom. I guess I'll stick to IE 5.5 because I want to make sure the pages I build are compatible with what most people use...

Hum... Don't know about that. It would be nice to let people really feel what the software can do. Maybe a limited time stamp (15 or 30 days), or a limited number of times the software can be ran (20 times)? It would be nice to see how the software works when browsing for skins, doing a search, etc. Unless you limit the number of downloads one can do with the software? After 20 downloads, you're prompted to buy the product?

There is no doubt that if I was to purchase anything to encourage this site, it would definately be this software, not T-shirt, hats or mugs. Is there going to be a demo or a trial version? Just to get a taste of it before actually purchasing it? The more I think about it, the more I think I might buy it after all...

OK, objects are animated in DX with image strips; in other words, the different frames of the animation must be placed next to each other in one long image strip. Since DX now supports alpha-blended PNGs, you don't need to make BMPs nor the grayscale transparency mask that was required then to create the alpha-blending. Just make the alpha-blended PNGs the way you're used to, and make a image strip accordingly.

Mormegil's tutorial is here https://www.stardock.net/people/fauxs-x/Tutorials/Creating%20Simple%20DX%20Zoomers.cdr but it's a Corel Draw file (.cdr). The best is still to look at the files in your user_currenttheme directory and learn. Then use your imagination.

Well, I made Hockey themes skins once, I actually made two, Montreal and Toronto. I origianlly made it for fun and thought nothing of it, then I was receiving tons of emails from people who wanted me to do their team. OK, I thought, it would be a cool project to make all the teams of the NHL. But with such a big project, I thought, I better make sure it'll legal. I don't want to spend a few months making somthing that I'll have to pull in the end. So I emailed the NHL about the legallity of usin

Yes, I wish it'd be part of OD. As it is, I'll unfortunatly will have to pass. Just a remark here, and please do take it lightly, this is just a remark, and nothing more: wouldn't it be cheaper for Wincusto to distribute it for free if it contributes greatly in reducing the bandwidth usage? Shouldn't Wincusto aim at having a maximum of people using it? Anyway, just a thought.

http://scripting.stardock.com/wb/stats.asp It says it was last updated in june 17, 2001. Did Stardock stop that feature altogether, or is it going to be available again in some future? It was in my opinion, close to the most valuable statistic since it showed who was actually USING the skins. So, are there any plans to start updating the page again?

Well, just sitting there and waiting for it to start working by itself can become irritating, I am sure. BUt if you have the Windowblinds program, then you can just double-click on the file and it will be installed in the skins list of Windowblinds. YOu can then choose it and apply it.

BoXXi, check your email. And also, you can check the screenshot section where I have a shot of my Nijikon desktop from yor theme and my WB skin. You'll notice a taskbar/Start menu/systray. It's a DX object. Check your mail, I sent it to you if you want it.

Any program that make alpha-blended (transparent) PNG files. Photoshop will do, or Paintshop Pro, or Corel. You just need to create your original image bigger, then make a copy of it a little smaller and place it next to it, then another yet smaller again, etc. Place all your animation images next to each other in the same file. Then put the effects you want (glow, dorp shadow, whatever). And save as a 24 bits PNG with transparency support. You can then create your new object in DX using that im

There's a curse on all XP skins... Nobody told you? Hehehe ! (machiavelic laugh) No, serioulsy, no clue. I read the same thing happened to few people, no idea how/if they fixed it. But you may try this: Create a folder in your windowblinds folder that has the same name as your zip file, then unzip the file into that directory. Then go in that directory and verify that the name of the UIS file is the same as the name of the folder it's in. If not, rename the folder to match the UIS file.
