Tested with almost all the "special" keys (Back, forward, stop, refresh, search, favorites,mail, media, mute, plsy, stop, next, volume +/-, My Computer, Calculator) and they worked. I did not test Power, Sleep, Wake up.

My special keys work when the mouse is on the primary but [expectedly] have no action [on the primary] when mouse focus is on the secondary. I will have to test later to see if they have effect on the secondary [I believe they do, at least I think the 'Mute' does].

I have a Viewsonic 1250 and have seen some lag when the mouse is over ActiveX componants in a browser on the secondary. [That sentence had WAY too many modifiers!] I wouldn't catagorize it as horrible though. Far from it. You might want to check your configurator abstraction wizard settings, there is quite possibly a hole in the patched inversion coupling that has caused a buffer relay overprotection induction.
