Agreed. The High Res Texture pack is a MUST have. Still, even with it, if you look close you'll see pixelation around the hairlines and in some other areas. I'm running the game with every single setting maxed out on DX11 and with the high res pack and I still get some minor pixelation in areas, which honestly, I find inexcusable when considering there are plenty of other games out there that don't have this pixelation. I doubt content people care enough to go rate games quite so often. Hell, I'm not getting paid for it and my piece has already been said by the professionals (and undoubtedly better.)
The upper-echolon review scene (for lack of a better word) is either suffering from an enormous disconnect from the actual market, or is quite simply corrupt. We've seen this pattern of "Criticize everything that can't fight back" and then "Praise large publishers or they'll cut their ties with us" over and over again now. Reviews from big sites and magazines are an utter and complete croc with no meaning anymore. It's almost hila

That said I find it a little weird also, but I LOVE having the asking questions in a dedicated submenu instead of cascading options. Pretty much the only thing I really like about that change.

Most conversations its the emotion, not whether its good or bad. From what I can tell its peaceful, sadistic, humorous, greedy, pushy/throwing your strength around, and sometimes trying to give people more options. I'm sure that isn't the entir
You guys seem to like it better then people on metacritic do. 3/10. Ouch.
Apparently so. I'm thinking somewhere between 85 and 95...it doesn't do anything terribly new but is fun to play and seems far more solidly executed than DA1. Maybe just cause you don't have so much backstory to slog through. I'm not really sure where the story is going, but I'm enjoying going there.
Also, I'm pretty pissed off atm. Why? Because I dragged my-self out to the midnight release, waiting in the cold, had to go through a bunch of other BS I won't go into here, and then when I got home and installed my game and went to play it it's telling me I'm LOCKED OUT until 3AM!!! WTF!!!!
Thought everyone knew about that or I would've mentioned it earlier...the problem with release date checks. Per region is doable, per time

I see prompts telling me I have more tactics combat slots but I don't see any tactics menu in this game. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I'm not missing anything. I don't know, but I'm definately enjoying myself. Gotta say though, I like the characters so far. They do seem less one dimensional, at any rate. Been playing since I woke up...now that I finally stopped I ran my defrag :p Also, don't think I still have my original DA character

I'd be surprised if OpenCL made any headway in gaming though...the only reason it stands a chance is Valve with their cross platform crap. ...I should be programming stuff by now, heh. I suppose that requires more sanity than I currently have. [e digicons]:(O[/e]
They are, 10 just have some features missing (such as the ability to use shaders as a means of leveraging the GPU for general calculations).
I believe DirectCompute was enabled for DX10 cards (version 4.0, where the version for DX11 is 5.0) when DX11 was released. Valves hardware survey says over 50% of peeps have DX10 card+OS, and only 5% for DX11.
I think DX10 will largely be skipped over completely, since DX11 just builds off it and already there are probably more (or as many) games with DX11 support than DX10
Most DX11 games support 10. Hell, Lost Planet 2 is the only one that doesn't afaik. 11 and 10 are similar to code for afaik.

I'm just glad devs are finally getting past dx9, its about freakin time :p We'll see if Valve gets onboard too, but they said their DX8 renderer users were less than 2% so it stands to reason they'll cut that for DX10.

I've got a pair of GTX 285s in SLI and there's not been a single game that even forced me to turn SLI on Will see how it looks, I'm more concerned about the particle effects (spells) than textures atm. The demo's fire effects were rather lacking when compared to DA:O
I know I love MLAA, I'm sure Nvidias upcoming counter to it will look awesome too. As to spells the tech blog post has a lot more

http://social.bioware.com/page/da2-patches High res texture pack (mostly for DX11 users.) Unknown if Steam will start including it or not, but obviously not in the preload.

132 Replies 244,134 Views

All you need on a fresh install (which I assume most people don't do all that often) is to load up the Steam client. It installs itself. Then the game which Steam is already aware of. It installs the game and launches. In Impulse, you have to download the installer, install Impulse, tell it to Detect Application for each game, sometimes download hundreds of megs while it backtracks to version 1.0 just so it can patch back up to the current version (or Ubisofts launch

I got mine preloaded on Steam already. (I know, traitor! hah. But I intend to reinstall Windows again shortly and it annoys me to have to fix everything if I didn't buy it from Steam. :( )

I'm not saying DA1 was ugly, it just seemed like old tech. Some of the areas background textures seemed a little off...like they could've done better. Still, with the amount of textures in these games I suppose its inevitable there'll be something to complain about. Since DA2 supposedly went with a more stylized look maybe some people are more sensitive to that.

Seemed like a huge improvement in graphics to me...and the DX11 stuff wasn't even enabled. I can't wait to see it with the high res tex pack. http://blog.bioware.com/2011/03/03/the-technology-of-dragon-age-ii-–-part-2/

Since you did mention Firewire, it took a very long time to actually die. I highly doubt Thunderbolt will have the same problems, since we are pushing the limits of a lot of current interfaces now. I don't remember VLB or ISA cards...for good reason I suppose.
