I'm quite sure the majority of police chiefs in the world support gun control - it makes it easier to oppress the people... The second amendment was put in the bill of rights for a reason, and it wasn't so I can put .22" holes in paper at range

This Drudge Report makes an interesting snark about the gun-toting image that Senator Kerry is trying to project. For those of you who are wary of Drudge's accuracy, the facts he is basing this on are easily checkec (and perhaps why Senator Kerry is not running on his record?) UPDATE: Instapundit h

In this bit, Instapundit links to a couple of people who have had bad experiences with CompUSA. I note in one case the issue is with a laptop, and in both cases, the problem is with an extended warranty. I shop at CompUSA (despi

Banning guns also keeps the most effective personal defense option out of the hands of non-criminals. It's worthwhile to note that the violent crime rate in the US, especially in areas where concealed-carry has been liberalized, has been declining also. Focusing on gun-banning as a panacea in wrong-headed, as the availability of firearms in not a root cause (nor even a symptom). It's also worthwhile to note all the "massacers" in the US

We now have an example of criminals using alternate means to commit violence in what should be a violence-free paradise now that guns are extremely difficult to get ahold of. And, no doubt, we'll hear that no-one "needs" to have a crossbow; and they can be banned "to protect the people" or other such nonsense. Feh. Updated to correct spelling<!-- Ju-Anchor-Footer-S

I will impbibe alcohol from time to time, but it's not a big deal to me. Nonetheless, I know some of you care. Without further ado - I give you Slate's review of Vodka

If you haven't heard of Rain-X, it's a product that you can apply to automotive glass that significantly increases the point at which water beads up on the glass and flows off. You can get in several different forms and ways to apply it to glass (I get it as my windshield wiper fluid). the end result of it is that I have to run my wipers a lot less often in the rain -

Follow-up. I just went to wincustomize and when I &#115elected "Open" instead of "Save" in the download dialog box, it opened another dialog box that just gave me the "Save" option. I saved it, opened the WBA file manually, got the tooltip asking me if I wanted to install. Clicke dthe tooltip, and nothing happened. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle" ALT="Power

I am currently running WB 4.30.026 (fresh install) on WXP Pro (SP2). Windowblinds is not skinning my taskbar, nor my explorer windows. IE and most other apps seem to be skinned. It could be a SP2 issue, since I don't recall it happeneing before I installed SP2. Also have latest drivers for pretty much everything (Catalyst drivers, etc). Luna under WB does skin all elements. Also, under non-luna (or non-classic) skins, the root start menu displays, but the non-system submenus (p

I've been somewhat busy these last couple of weeks. I started a new job the second week of July. I'm working as phone-based technical support for a major CDMA cellular carrier. I'm supporting the carrier's data products as a second/third level support tech. Basically, if you are using data services over the CDMA system (or CDPD; an analog data system), and the first l

I've been collecting the Ultimate X-men line (In the trade paperback format, so I get it in chunks). However, I picked up the Ultimates trade paperback #1, and thought it blew chunks. Though they really ought to label it as Ultimate Wolverine; it really is all about Wolvie (in a pretty good way, and the rest of the group is well-handled).

Looks like I need to keep a closer eye on my comments. First, President Bush doesn't scare me. Never has, doubt he ever will. Second; get over Florida. Almost every recount done in the aftermath of the muddle (caused, originally, by Democratic FL Supreme Court Jutices), gave the state to Bush. More importantly, the Florida Electors voted for Bush; at that point it ceased being an issue. We do not vote directly for President (for a num

I put a RAID in for our home file server (for a variety of reasons, here at the Lair, we keep many files (including our music collection and the My Documents directories for myself and DW) out on a file server. Last year, when we were trying to figure out back-up strategies for roughly 80 gb of data (much of it effectively irreplaceable from source material, and inclu

This post , on a blog I follow just so I don't have a one-sided view of the world, disturbs me. From the first line we have cognitive dissonance: "I've written and re-written a post about Fahrenheit 9/11, and I just h

It goes both ways - I'm not an active christian, and I generally side up with the republicans. I agree with BakerStreet - the problem is, many current judges rule with their consciences rather than with the law - so that is the assumed default. And we are in an environemtn where the balance of power is held by the judiciary; so neither side believes that they can allow a partisan of the other side be nominated; nor be seen to nominate a compro

OK - my second-most popular post is me recommending a software program, so I'll throw open comments for some advice about software. DW's computer has a couple of problems that are driving me batty.
