The way I understand it at the moment is that Alignment is a form of in-game difficulty setting. Evil gets a bunch of bonuses that make it easier to win. Good forfeits those bonuses (and pays large sums of income), which makes it harder to win. Huh? What about Neutrality? IMO, the bonuses received from selecting Neutral alignment outpace

Ok, this is, like, completely weird. Yesterday when I posted this message using the IE 7 beta 2 browser, the formatting was completely hosed! No line breaks whatsoever. A day later, all the formatting returns! WTF? Well, hopefully that makes it more likely for me to get a response.

Then in IE the forum lost all my line break data and such even though I had selected plain text mode so now on top of having to use IE to post a new thread I have to write in my own HTML code. Same problem for me. What a bummer when I saw that my whole debug.err file lost ALL of its formatting. Yeah, like anyone will take the time to unscrambl

Whenever I try to adjust the brightness in the Options > Video section, my system hangs and needs to be rebooted. Game works fine otherwise. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Ohhhhhhh, paaaaaaaaallllleeeeeeeeassssse! Sheesh! This group whines more than my 7-year-old. As he learned in pre-school, "You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit!" C'mon. It's a t-shirt. Buy it or don't. OK, that's the end of my rant. Go back to your life netizens.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes to all. Moral conceptualization extends far beyond what we could ever hope to cover in a forum thread. Thousands of years have been spent trying to come to grips with this notoriously slippery subject. The best that GC2 could ever hope to attain is some distilled, synthetic representation of this concept. But I digress into esoteric philosphy. Back to the subject: Quite some time ago, I reconciled the fact that I have neither the time nor inclination to attain G

Update: When I try to give a bonus rating using the IE browser 6.0.x, I get a popup with this message: An Error Occurred There was a problem opening this page. Please refresh the page and try again. Whatever you were trying to do, it didn't work out the way you expected. You could always return to the Home Page. Using FF 1.5.0.3, I get taken to a GalCiv II page with no content. I then have to navigate back to the original page, but I'm pretty sure

I end up at what ever alignment most of my ethical events point me to. Here's a strategy twist that I've started playing and, for me, it adds another rich layer of playability. Regardless of the overall ethical considerations of the game, when confronted with an moral choice, my choice largely will depend on maximizing the benefit for the rac

Holy multiple farms batman! I've been wondering about the effect of multiple farms on population growth as well. I usually build no farms at first because the planet's capitol provides for the taxpayers until the population = N mt/wk of food. ( 1 bln pop per each mt of food). But if the population grows in parallel to the # of farms, rather tha

I prefer to play with myself. Ooooh, must...resist...smartass...quote. AHHHH! Whew, ok. I, too, prefer to play BY myself . There are droves of MP games on the market. If that's your "thing", then play'em. For me, gaming is not a social event (

Responding to the original question...No! I do not like MP games (or FPS or RTS for that matter). I have limited time and spend that time playing single-player turn-based strategy games. Consequently, when one finally does get to market, I usually play it to death because there's nothing else available. So, you wanna branch off from your existing cash cow? Try reintroducing the turn-based historical war game genre. I really miss playing games like Panzer General, et al. This time, th

Thanks for the help. And what about the bonus rating on a post? Other than identifying a post as annoying, insulting, etc., what value does it add to the forum? I'm not really clear on that. Does it help one to identify value-added posts quickly, or does a poster get some forum-type award for accumulating good ratings, or help build "karma" points for one's afterlife ? Thanks.<br

Here's my take, FWIW. My understanding is that what your pic displays isn't a "sphere of influence", but rather the sensor range of that starship. Also, a starbase only influences planets within the same sector and the Gauss system is not within the same sector as the starbase (as noted by the perpendicular line bisecting the path between the starbase and Gauss V). As for the other issue, I can't help there. Hope that clears things up.

Running the game on a P4 1.7ghz, 512mb ram, 128mb video card. On a medium-sized map with 5 starter civs all with Int = Bright (3 remain), now on Turn #470, the game chokes. I've disabled most the the eye-candy and it still crawls along between turns. It takes over 2 minutes to load the saved game, and often takes over a minute between turns. Before I start playing, I exit from every background app I can think of (except anti-virus stuff). No help. If the game is choking at this point,
