*grins*, i'm sorry. I can't imagine what that must have been like. The subject is an interesting one, I think mostly because it brings up the question of when one begins to live. Clearly, I was physically cognizant from the moment I was born, but just being aware doesn't mean "I" was aware. I don't know that I'm me because I look in the mirror, but because of a feeling or intuition that I cannot describe. If I didn't have that intuition from b

I was thinking about my childhood the other day, about my past in general, and I realized that I really cannot recall anything happening to me before I was about six years old. It seems clear enough that things did happen to me, my parents have the photo albums to prove it, but in this day and age, knowing what I do about technology, and being completely ign

It's disengenuous to scoff at the average plebian for being taken in by the press, and then turn around and pretend that you can take the artist's word in this case at face value. If they don't want to print Chelsea Market's perspective, they don't have to. All I have to do is read anti-Bush propaganda to see how often this suppo

You know they haven't? Newspapers notoriously run an article one day and then never follow up on it the next. The original NYT article said they couldn't be reached for comment because the offices were closed. And if someone badmouthed me, I'd give my rebuttal. They didn't. Why? <TABLE cellpad

Hmm...good then...I feel better now... What a great movie too, by the way. Keanu Reeves's greatest performance.

For all any of you know there was never a gallery or painting to begin with, and yet you KNOW why the gallery owner closed the show... My article has a picture of the artist standing next to the painting.

The article I read in the NYT said that the offices were closed over the weekend and the owners couldn't be reached. I don't know about you, but if someone accuses me of something in a national newspaper, I make it my business to be reached. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor

So I'm starting a new project, and it has forced me to think about the nature of the self. What is the self? Is it body, mind, or soul? Is it a combination of the three? Or maybe just two of the three. I would love to hear any thoughts.

"Calls to the management of Chelsea Market for comment were not returned." There were no interviews with the owners, but not for lack of effort. "arrest you"??!?! Does that line not strike anyone else as silly? Do art gallery managers, even in NY, have the power to arrest people? I as

I had not considered that the controversy was staged. I suppose we will see if the gallery reopens the show. No one has to show anything they don't want, but in this case I think there is a certain level of pettiness that overshadows the whole thing. Its not even like its an offensive picture. Its simply a mosaic created out of monkeys.

Link An art show in New York has been shut down because of a portrait of President Bush that is comprised of monkeys. Let us not discuss that the gallery was private and has the right to exclude anything that it considers offensive. That is all fine an

I am enjoying the 5 PM news here, and I see a lovely video clip of President Bush talking about how he is overweight. He uttered two sentences, one which said that he was a bit overweight, and one which said he fully intended to trim some inches off his waistline. These two sentences took a full minute to deliver, as the words had to struggle their way throug

It has finally happened. Sophomore year, semester one, has finally ended. A recap: 9 AM (Monday, Wednesday) I sit motionless in a lecture hall, listening to a fascinating speech about sociology. It is when I am writing sentences like the previous one that I truly wish computers had a sarcasm button. Anyways, sociology has got to be my least favorite subje

I've thought about this on occasion, and I usually end up feeling angry and somewhat depressed and utterly convinced that this sort of thing really isn't worth thinking about. There are a lot of things that one does purely out of instinct, and I truly believe this to be one of them. As far as who I would do this for, I think I would have to wait for the situation. Seeing some people in danger, I've no doubt that I would throw myself into what
