In the last few episodes I’ve detailed the way my time at the software store was an exercise in humiliation, receiving abuse from customers and bosses alike and having to smile and like it. That story is nearly done, but before the end there are a few miscellaneous incidents and things I wanted to talk about that don’t necessarily fit in the narrative. There are some

Uh, hey, Pantherchic, I know you told me that you're my cousin in AZ, but I'm not sure which one. In my defense, there are quite a few of you. I had been assuming I knew who you were, but something you said in a recent reply to another article tells me I was wrong. Give me some hints, I'll figure it out. Thanks for reading, and replying, and give my best to everyone in the family out there

Thanks for the support, everyone. All of us over here have been very pleased with how things have gone so far. It's been crazy, but it could have been much worse, and the response of people who actually turned out to vote has been heartwarming. It's good to see, even in this small way, the fruits of so much hard, dangerous labor. And this is pleasing in a more petty fashion, too. A successful election is a big poke in the eye to all the bad guys who we

We’ve been really busy the last 2 or 3 weeks. I mentioned in an earlier article about us being kicked out of our homes, and having to not only relocate, but actually build our new dwelling. That took up all of our spare time for a few days. The last 2 weeks or so, though, we have been prepping for today: election day. If you have been at all paying attention to

I've been told that one of the reasons I may not get many responses is that I rarely respond to them. I don't mean to slight anyone, it's just that circumstance limits my time online, and so I'm either writing or talking to Life. But, I am going to try and make more time for responses, so here goes: daehaksang, I'm glad you made your way here. I'm lookin' forward to your email foreverserenity, thanks, and you're welcome to comment any

Just a quick one today. What this is is an appeal. Recently, my lovely and talented wife, Life-happens, taught me how to read the numbers that come along with being a joeuser. I didn't know it, but this site lets me see howmany people have clicked on my articles. That's cool, but it shows me something disappointing. Some of my articles have hundre

If it's all the same to you, Tex, I'm going to try not to dwell on it right now. I appreciate your feelings and your support, but for most of us over here, the way we get by is to try not to think about it too hard. There will be time later for grief for those that didn't make it home, right now we gotta stay focused on what we're doing. Sufficient to the day the evil therein, I'll worry about the rest later.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Estrogen Lass, I was thinking of you, but maye I should have mentioned how since then, you've done much better for yourself. And hey, thanks for reading, please, respond as opften as you like. I'm getting insecure not knowing if anyone is reading this stuf

We were sitting around the other day trying to help one of my buddies come up with an idea for what to get his wife for their first anniversary. This is a difficult issue at the best of times, but when you have half the planet between you and your loved one, the problem is magnified. There are all kinds of things you can do if you have a credit card and access t

Hey there, daehaksang, how are you doing? I hope you are doing well. We'll have to catch up some time. I ran into Kalsek bacsanim in Korea, so I know a little about all that, but I hope you are doing well. Thanks for stopping by.

This is a story about a dog. When our platoon took over the palace, we sort of inherited this dog. One of the guys from the departing unit had picked up this puppy from somewhere, and was keeping it with him, but they were leaving and he couldn't take the puppy with him. I wasn't there, but I've had the story related to me; this guy was a sniper, a snake-eater, a real

Tex, you've very succintly described how I feel about religion much of the time. I don't mean to make light of something you obviously put time and feeling into, but I the only thing I can think of to say is: Testify, Sister!

good point, Gnat. Does anybody know the whole quote about a society getting the military it deserves? I think that what gets us through is the belief, or at least the need to believe, that we are doing a necessary thing, and that we are the good guys. As far as who is qualified to make those kinds of decisions, part of the whole military tradition is being free of having to worry about qualification, because the decisions are made for us. Part of hav

Thanks for the responses, everybody. I think everybody trades their dreams at some point for the things they end up with, but that's an individual thing, and we all generally know and understand the reasons why we do it. but when we do it as a culture, as a nation, what explanation is there?

If the folks at home get all bent out of shape because you went for a swim in the bay, screw 'em. I didn't marry them. You are awesome, Happy Birthday some more.
