I've never been tempted to set up a Facebook account but my wife has been on it for 3-4 years now. I've helped her with managing the so-called privacy settings, or attempted to, anyway. The impression I've come away with is that having a Facebook account is like being stripped naked and paraded through Times Square on New Year's Eve, but they somehow manage to make all those ogling people invisible to you, and you have no idea how many of them there are. I'd use an auto-VPN browser. If they can make it seamless, why wouldn't you? I'm not knowledgeable enough to know, but most current VPN's have to have proper code on the receiving end to establish the connection. Don't know what the issues would be in devising some sort of generic VPN reception capability or what the security implications would be.

As to hardware/driver differences, there is a tab background image in Pale Moon which displays on two of my rigs and not on the third; interestingly, it does not display on the rig which has the intermittent transparent titlebar on launch. I prefer the background to not display, so that's good on the one rig, but ugly on the other two. All three have the same versions of OS & WB. There are clearly machine/driver differences to be accounted for, since two of my Win7 Pro rigs run Pale Moon without any WB 8.1 issues and one rig has a recurring transparent titlebar in PM. It gets skinned correctly by re-applying WB from the config dialog. Is that the case for you, terry696?

They won't be migrating to it much, certainly not en masse , Philly. Not unless there's a major overhaul. Many gamers will go for it because of DX12 but probably not until there are some games which take advantage of it & from what I understand that may take a considerable period of time. I was premature. The intermittent total transparency of Pale Moon's titlebar persists (x86 version) with 8.1 after all, even using the standalone installer. Re-applying WB corrects it. Just an annoyance. Not using Fire IE or similar plugin. EDIT: I should note that my two Win7 desktops (both Dells) do not manifest this transparency issue. The Dell laptop, which happens to have Intel integrated graphics, is the one with the issue, so it may be a

Refreshing ODM by logging off & back on indeed works. However, based on comments from Neil Banfield in another thread, you may be wise to go straight to the Stardock Store/My Account page and download any updated installers you want to use from there, then install using the .exe's rather than updating using ODM. That has the advantage of 'archiving' your apps (by saving the installers) which enables continued use of your apps should your OD subscription ever lapse

Neil's suggestion to avoid using ODM for updating WB caught my eye. The titlebar issues with FF & PM were reportedly 'fixed' with 8.09 but persisted on my rig after updating to 8.09 using ODM. I remembered I really want to keep the installers saved so this time I D/L'd the installer from my account page and installed using it, which actually did fix the issue. So maybe Neil is on to something.

8.1 appears to have resolved the intermittent transparent titlebar issue with Pale Moon. 8.095 had not. Being a windows-optimized version of Firefox, might be worth trying to see if you have same problem. If it won't start, either, there could conceivably be a video driver issue. YMMV.

Admittedly good strategy on MS's part (they'll need every leg up they can get), but the impact on OS adoption that will have is unclear given the size of the PC gaming market. Not sure what percentage of desktops are in that segment but it would have to be relatively small.

Interesting that as of last month, Windows 8/8.1 has yet to pass XP in current desktop OS share. An abandoned OS still beats it. Of Windows desktops, Win7 has 63%, XP 21% and 8/8.1 16%. According to Net Applications, a web analytics firm. Even more interesting when compared to late 2013: Win7 46%, XP 34% and 8 7%. I mention this only because Win10 is going to have to be one helluva OS to move the needle much.

Given the age of most Barbie recipients, someone will have to set up the wifi connection for the child(ren). If that someone capable of doing so doesn't recognize (or care about) the implications, well... Mind you, I wouldn't purchase this for my grandchild, but everybody ain't me.
