There's also: http://www.netez.com/xplorer2/ Most alternative file managers only add features. I have no need for extra features, I just want a slim file manager. So far I haven't found one yet, so I'm still using Explorer (under LiteStep).

Soundwise the quietest is an old Seagate model. But the Samsung SpinPoint series appear to have taken over that crown, while at the same time providing good performance, so I bought me one of those and set it to "quiet". Can't say I hear it spinning, but then again, can't hear anything over the noise my old 40G Maxtor makes.

THE UNDERLYING THEORY OF IT ALL IS THAT PEOPLE MAKE THEIR OWN SKINS IF THEY CAN'T FIND ONE THEY LIKE IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE YOU KNOW SO IF YOU WANT A SKULL WITH BLUE ICE SMOKE COMING OUT OF ITS EYES AND YOU CAN'T FIND ONE YOU SHOULD GO MAKE ONE YOURSELF IT WILL BRING YOU GREAT SUCCESS

Argh, if only people'd read the manual. Instead, they go "yikes, this contains letters, let's just press random buttons instead and bitch about how complex this thing is". The most striking aspect of it al, though, is that if they were to pick between a simple, easy to use vcr and a complex vcr with a boat load of features, they'd all pick the complex one, even though they'd only ever use a wee percentage of its capabilities.

I need a bigger image of that spotlight searching thing. Can't read it, so I can't really tell what it does. At any rate, 1) I always blame the marketeers, for lying, cheating and swindling is in their job description and 2) the "my OS is better than yours" is so childish (not talking about this post, by the way, but more on the Mac vs Windows vs *nix thing in general).
