Good Review! You Brought out some points that I missed. As far as the settings retaining, I set my config up and saved it so that I can load it when things get screwy. I also found that when used with DX the settings seem to stay. I completly missed the Icons being generated on top of each other and you are right this is a problem that should definatly be addressed. I am going to link to your article from mine so that
I have to get warmed up to people Geez it's getting stuffy in here I agree, I comment regularly even though I only have time to write an article a week or so and eveyone treats me pretty good........
Are you still looking at the plain WindowsXP or 2000 Icons? You know, those little picture on your desktop that do nothing. I mean really, everything else reacts to your mouse or mouse clicks if you're running XP but those Icons do nothing. They just sit there waiting to be clicked on and even then nothing really happens. It seems to
OK everyone Group Hug around the TW! Reading your article and comments is always intresting and sometimes entertaining to!
I'm not sure about the slide show thing. On the themes I'm confused. DesktopX does Desktop themes and you are right you will probably be better off building your own desktop from the available widgets or objects. Style XP on the otherhand does not, to my knoledge, do desktop themes. It allows you to skin the windows, buttons and such by hacking the UXtheme.dll file in windows XP. This can Also be achieved by using WindowBlinds, inf
I'm sorry to hear that Bobbi is gone, I hope that the memories that she has left you will light up your day every now and again. btw I once had a cat named Fred also, he was quite the scoundrel....
I have met a few people that I first met online. Sounds like you had a really intersting day with Tom!
Widgets need a common user interface . which would lead me to think that the widgets could still be the same as they are now, but DX would have to supply the options from the backend.
Great article and definatly some good Ideas on how to simplify the DX interface. I agree that this has to be done, a user should be able to set the basic things from one options panel or a right click menu and not have to drudge through the DX properties panel for the widget.
start the banjo music I take offence to that. I play banjo, among other things.........
Why such the debate? Why do peope have such a need to explain thier existance? We are here isn't that all that matters? In the end we'll either be able to ask the question or just be dead. Either way we probably won't care at that point......

It is recess at my house! Didn't you get the memo? Oh wait that only went to registered users.....................
One thing that I forgot to mention, Konfab will grow and get better as will all the other widget proggies. So I would guess that the mem usage will drop for konfab in the future.
Shadow Punk ( if you want to be Shadow lord you'll have to register with the site and quit posting annon.) It seems that your're trying to pick a fight here. Lets look at the facts So far I have see only fair comparison between the two proggies, both of which are in a release version. 1) The High amount of memory taken by Konfab will effect your systems even with 2 GB or ram as will the 20 or 30 mb that DX takes up on my sy

You don't ever have to run DesktopX at all. Just double click on the widgets. Good Point I had forgotten about that. But if I remember right doing it that way the widgets use quite a bit more ram, which resulted in me importing all the Widgets into objects.
Ok on my system, Konfabulator with thier default Clock and weather objects errrr widgets 38,880 mem DesktopX 16,180 with Areo Weather object Digital Clock Mem monitor processor monitor Date Uptime With iconX also running the mem usage was 20,616 ( I am Hooked on IconX my desktop is just wrong without it! <img src="../images/smiles/joke.gif" border=0 ALIGN="abs
