I'd say no also, unless you somehow rack up like +200% in Soldiering. The lost population to perpetual raids is too damning to the economy. A late starbase rush would tend to fail too unless you somehow had everyone at peace as you need at least a few turns to get a base useful. I suppose going straight for Starbase Fort II, with a 1 constructor per turn build rate, you might get a +10 weapon starbase up in 2 turns, but it'd be risky under war conditions. And that'd only be useful if you rus

I tend to rush for Trade and build an economic capital on my biggest planet, even if it means two capitals on the starting planet. Over time I will tend to support the growth of the planet (morale + farms and even more economic centers) at the expense of factories. This means more money right from the start. You can always wait before deciding to build the manufacturing capital somewhere, since your early builds aren't too expensive, and the extra cash lends itself to rush building on a new p
I guess it's all flavor for what you want by "epic". My own take on "Epic": 1st, limit the rate of social production upgrades after the first upgrade. I'd still keep the early game upgrades etc... but slowing infrastructure improvement would limit one's ability to over-produce the enemy. Include slowing PQ techs under this. 2nd, allow bigger fleets earlier, so speed up logistics research. Reason: larger epic battles. 3rd, keep the weapon's race more intere
Edit: and the reason why I rate bigger ships last during a tough war is they're impossible to buy from the AI, and way expensive to research when you need to cut research.
My in-game watching of laser-shields battles makes me believe attack generally trumps defenses. The cause is watching my 1/2 (1 las / 2 las def) ships getting trumped by 3 las / 0 las def ships. But also hitpoints adds into it as > means longer standing power. So I'd say it's weapon damage potential per hitpoint that is the best formula for figuring out your ships' values, with your defenses merely adding more hitpoints iff you chose right, and those hitpoints are 'regenerating' hitpoints.
So how to max out Creativity in the game? Obvious trait choice. +25 War Rooms (Arcean) +10 Creative Good (Good xenoethic) +25 Are there any more techs/ways to add it up? Also, is it just me or does creativity strike most often when researching a serial technology (like Lasers)?
Overall I'm liking ToA. The new tech trees sound like a mediocre-selling point, but actually force quite different play styles. I'd say fire up DA and see if you feel like wanting more. If no, then skip ToA.
Hi!Fundamentalists are not a mega event. They are just a cost of your civ going evil. AFAIK to get rid of them just disable minor races when creating a new game.BR, Iztok
Huh? I swear they arrive like all the other minor civ events, like the Vegans.
One of the things that I would like to see is an improvement in the diplomacy screen: an option to offer something for trade and ask the other party, "What will you give me for this?"
Basically that is there now. It's pretty much a style difference between Civ4 and GC2, but as is I like GC2 better since it kind of captures the art of the deal as you try to fish for what the other side ones. I've discovered with ToA that the negotiations are a little bit different than I
DivineWrath wrote: [B]3. Ship control groups. To be used in the governers screen. I would like to be able assign a bunch of ships to a control group, lets call them "Attack Force" 1, 2 & 3. They function the same as any other ship, except they stand out in the governers screen. Once I'm done fighting the Drengins (peace treaty or total extermination), I can order them to regroup near Yor territory without having to find every ship or transport lying around. 4. Fleet templates.
GalCiv 2 is technically not at the 2.0 version yet. It's at 1.92, and SD is getting ready to finish it up real soon.
Is there a 2.0 GalCiv2 feature request thread yet? (if not, I'd thought I start one for any final minor features). Edit: I'll add suggestions to the top while this thread is open. ******************************************************************************************** #1. Auto Sector Patrol (like GC1). Basically similar to auto-attack, but a separate ship option to patrol one sector. Would be better if could patrol mu
Is there an in-built screen-shot function to GC2:ToA, or do I have to use a 3rd party program to do that? If not, what do you use? I'd especially like to take some pictures of ships in the Shipbuilder and Intel report. Thanks :)
Hi, I'm getting the above message (in the title) when I try to run my copy of GalCiv2. The situation was that on my old hard-drive I had installated the Totalgamingnetwork and a version of Stardock Central over a year ago. Since then, that hard-drive is no longer my central hard-drive, the CPU/mobo are not the same, and that SDC isn't the main one I use. I just did a fresh install of Stardock Central on my new boot drive
1. Social Interaction. Chatting. The IRC aspect gives it some social interaction, at least on the scale of say blogging, internet forums, etc... The emotes can be annoying, but add a big chunk of easy ways to have a complex interaction with someone in an RP setting adds to the role playing. 2. Role-playing. Definable characters that are very distinct from each other. The cosmetic aspects should help reflect that visually / audibly, but there should be more in the way the gam
I find BG's fun, but i mostly agree with the original post, and I just started playing WoW a month ago. If anything, the BG's should be like some kind of violent sports league in the world, like a BloodBowl. Basing off of Warsong Gulch, they could easily make a couple of different sports games in the BG form. Totally agree that there should be capturable objective points in the world of a PVP server, rather than a meaningless battle game that you play nitely to grind gear points. I'm
Wow that's harsh. :*). Actually a lot of the non-pay free MMORPGs give me that feeling. I give ATID tips for trying something different, and having an actual economy in detail, but the zero combat aspect is what kills is, plus the weirdos chatting about scupltures. WoW would be tons better if it took some of the economy ideas of ATID. I rather like EVE, but I haven't had time to play it. Taking the title literally, though, th
As long as the graphics will always be scaleable to lower degrees, it's not a loss. One day we may actually upgrade!
Nice sell to the press! My main want would be for the tech tree to be truly distinct for different players, and not just cosmetically. Like techs could be in different orders for some races, grant different modifiers, grant slightly different modules and ship hulls. A possible spin-off is are the racial techs be tradeable? If they are, will they be hoarded? If I trade for one what do I get? If Terrans ally with Drengin and make nice, can Terrans get the plans for Slave Pits and buil
Ok, it's officially not original to try to insert story lines, quests, events, etc.. into a 4X game, but why not expand on the idea of events in Gal Civ? Why not chain quests, a la the MMORPG's? If developed, they could be alternate victories in their own, or conspire to add an extra level of difficulty, and add some subtle backstory to make each game more different than the last, and not just in a roll for next event kind of way. These would act similar to the way campaigns work in
So did this feature make it in? Sounds interesting, like the end game slideshow in the Civ series. But if it doesn't really add to game play, it's definitely not crucial.
I'd vote Time of Defiance as the closest thing to a true, persistent 4x MMOG. It's nowhere near Masters Of Orion in MMOG form, though.
I wonder of this was spun into a MMORPG if it'd be like SD's plans for their own Society MMORPG....
The GC2 universe is surely rich enough to be material for a CIV4 mod, though I wonder if the GC2 ruleset can really be emulated in CIV4.
If anything the new Final Frontier mod is just to show that CIV4 is now highly skinnable. I haven't found it particularly comparable to GC2 though. GC2 is highly different than CIV4. Did SD collaborate with Firaxis in anyway to make BTS? It's obvious GC2 influenced some of the redesign of Civ4 in the expansion, but I wouldn't say they really infringed other than in a 'copy cat copy cat you're fat' kind of way.
