PlayTime: if their computers are too slow to run DesktopX, they'll be too slow to run the standalone exe. The standalone exe is DesktopX AND the object all in one. That's all it is. I don't know where people got the idea that they would be any less resource intensive.

geeps, you missed the point entirely. it's not intended for people to buy for desktop customization. the free version and enhanced version are for desktop customization, and both of those are under your pricetag. the pro version is intended for companies to buy to make professional applications. it's of just about no use to a home user anyway. just run your objects in desktopx and it will be no different.

the artist gets approximately 10 cents for each iTunes song I buy. the other 90 cents are split between apple and the recording industry, neither of which I'm particularly interested in supporting. i have purchased from emusic in the past. the artist got 50% of the profit before they switched to the subscription model. i'm not sure how that works now.

The same people also make RealAlternative. Both of these "apps" are really cool and useful, but I'm pretty sure they both violate the licensing agreements of Real and Quicktime because they distribute the codec dll files from them.

Hyatt and Blake (the main phoenix programmers) are busy with other things at the moment. Hyatt is working on Safari (Apple's new web browser), and Blake just got accepted to college. Pinkerton and PCH are doing some work on Px right now, but it's moving a lot slower than it was. I think they're still hoping to get .6 out sometime this month though.

IE on mac is more standards compliant than IE on PC, so it's going to have to be slower. IE on PC cheats in several places to do things faster. I don't think Safari itself is skinnable, but there's already a Safari skin out for Phoenix (my personal favorite web browser for any OS, it's really fast).
