I've advised all my friends, family, and clients not to buy vista as an upgrade to their existing machines (re: stick with XP), and to wait until early next year if they want/need to buy a new computer so it can have vista properly bundled with it. There's no way I'd advise anyone to trust any of these parties involved in a "vista certified" coupons program, haha.
dagwinn, I think the monthly patch cycle, augmented with emergency patches if something becomes critical have worked fine so far. I also think Firefox's lil "hey, want to install the new version" pop-up when I run it (occasionally) works well.

it's not economics as much as anyone who ISN'T running SP2 is just insane at this point. the security fixes alone are worth it and to be honest, my system under SP2 runs the way XP should have out of the box.

My one tabbed dock (autohiding at the top) migrates from my primary monitor to my secondary monitor on any fresh load of object dock, as if it isn't remembering its position on screen. Perhaps it is because my primary monitor is on the left (called Monitor 2 by display settings and nvidia control panel) while my secondary monitor is on the right (called Monitor 1). I am using Dual View mode with Monitor 2/left at 1600x1200 and Monitor 1/right at 1920x1200. Does that help

99% of the current users don't need a new file format and don't own or care about software for parsing XML. If the free viewer converter doesn't work as a seamless plugin for office, it will just piss off a whole lotta people to have to deal with YET ANOTHER MS file format. Actually, nothing I know of gives you a thumbnail on the desktop, only in explorer windows. All the types you mention have full thumbnails in explorer views (if thumbnails is turned on) but not on the desktop. Interesting. You can create artificial ones by using Desktop X to build shortcuts with thumbnail-like images. Now that you mention it, isn't it strange that you can't change the desktop view to any of the settings in explorer?</font
feature requests: Now that you can offset the docks along one axis, offsetting in the other axis would be perfect. Right now, I can slide my dock down from the top, for example, but I can't slide it away from one side or the other. New version fixed the two bugs above that we mentioned AND the one I forgot to mention (the offset text bug). It was in my bug report though, but regardless, this is GREAT! Note that for some reason, it bombed out on me when I first used it, but have been unable to reproduce that. If I can, I will let you know of course. Well done!

yes, that was the second bug I reported as well...once a dock is offset, you can't drag an icon onto it. I was wondering why we saw a full release before an interim beta build came out...ahem.
