a link with video http://windowsultimate.com/blogs/extras/archive/2007/01/07/windows-dreamscene.aspx notes mpeg support, so DVD playback should work, even though it may or may not handle this directly. Brad? Do we have to transfer the DVD to the local hard drive or can anything played in Windows Media Player on Vista work "through" this?

Availability? Does/Can it work with a DVD you might be playing in the player? Or your TV tuner? I'd love to watch movies this way while I work. This is just a commercialized version of the desktop video background seen in vlc and intervideo's dvd software, etc. The Milkdrop plug-in can do this with its visualizations in WinAmp and it's pretty friggin amazing to have all your transparent windowblinds and desktop x gadgets working over live

The morons at Sun say this EVERY YEAR...and every year somebody sends this story around. I'm really getting tired of people giving this dying dinosaur 15 minutes for saying something this out of touch and stupid. SUN...YOUR DAY IS DONE...GET OVER IT...FIND A NEW BUSINESS MODEL...OR DIE LIKE SGI.

Its not a gui+ improvement. When they say its the most secure OS they've ever released ITS TRUE. To end users, who will still need antivirus and antispyware software, Vista LOOKS like little more than a GUI upgrade to Windows XP...and one that their smarter, more savvy friends already showed them 90%

We gave them this monopoly. If MS had real OS competition in the PC space (re: Apple did TONS of work on legacy drivers, etc.) then MS would be charging LESS for a more FULLY FEATURED OS, instead of a MORE for a GUI+ improvement to XP. It's our own damn fault, folks.

And have you guys seen the price MS wants in Europe???!!! Vista Ultimate is in the neighborhood of $800 USD (news item on www.guru3d.com). INSANE!!! If MS thinks that going to do anything but INCREASE piracy worldwide, I want what they're smokin'! It really looks to me that marketing is still pricing and segmenting Vista as if it actually delivered on the promises MS made 6 years ago. The pale shadow that the soon to be released Vista

I doubt very many people will take the XP->Vista upgrade route, as myself and many other are advising against it. Not only does it seem to result in a terribly munged installation (seemingly much worse than 98->XP ever did), but it requires RAM and graphic card hardware updates (beyond the expertise of most consumers) at a minimum, and some of the widest legacy hardware STILL does not work with Vista (and in the case of the Soundblaster Live series of

I agree, when the navigation panel is moved to the right, it minimizes its importance (just standard GUI psychology 101). And because it is placed far below a couple of rather unimportant boxes (login and submit windows - huh?!), it causes the gallery and forum lists to not even appear in the top/first view area of the page. Instead, one would have to scroll down to know they are even there. Bad form all around. The most important part of this site is the gallery, since it shows the D

re: WC2007 It looks nice, but doesn't fill up the browser window like the current one does. So, I'm getting about 1/2 the information on this version that I do on the current one. I'm running large monitors (1600x1200 and 1920x1200) and it makes a HUGE difference to have the text/windows/posts/etc. all auto fit the browser width. Thanks for listening.

Only those of us with 3D rendering applications, video compression, etc. - in other words, software that takes advantage of multiple threads - are going to see any advantage from 4 cores over 2 for probably most of 2007. Converting game code to multithreaded is no walk in the park, so I don't expect ANY multithreaded game engines to show up in wide use until late 2007/early 2008. Anyone hear differently on anything of note for multithread?

Hey, this works kinda cool. I wish there was a way to improve the quality of the antialiasing algorithm when looking at rotated images. Right now, even on the max ram/max cpu setting, they're still pretty jaggy. Otherwise, I'm digging it!

hmmm, thanks. Synergy does copy/paste for text/clipboard, just not the file copy. And yes, I would use that hourly. Right now, I just have a shared directory on both desktops that serves a similar, if inelegant, purpose. Glad to hear it has improved. I didn't see it getting updated in the Stardock Central application at all, but that may just be because
