On Kur5hin they would have probably IP banned him. They don't go for that crap on Ars Technica either. It aint cool to crap on the host if you're a spoofer. Particularly if you're doing your crapping in somebody elses thread. The very fact that it's causing a ruckus shows how screwed up the so called "community" is. Folks, this [[SHOULD]] be a no-brainer here.

I'm not mad at Doreen, Master Crumbut. If anyone is angry or upset it's you. And if we're gonna take sides,where one side are the software pirates leeching skins like MP3s and warez and on the other side people who contribute to the community and don't steal their software I am proud to be on the latter's side. I can't talk for other sites. But for this site what is burdensome are the people who download many megs of stuff who haven't bought anything. If wc someday goes to a subscription, i bet it starts with the site checking to see if you've at least bought one of the apps on the site. why should some leach using a warez copy of WB or unregistered shareware one get a free ride? wouldn't be hard to tie the user accounts here to the customer database and say "Sorry buddy, you've downloaded 10 megs of W

Plastic, what you call "free spirit" I call parasitic spirit. There is nothing noble with leaching off the work of others and not giving something in return. I'd say the difference here vs. the Stardock NGs is that on the Stardock NGs Brad or someone will post an idea and people will say "Hmm that is interesting, what if you did this or that and that might make it better." And then someone else will add there 2-cents. But here, Brad or someone will post an idea and you get a bunch of people just saying why it's a bad idea without saying what they think might be a better idea.

I talked to Brad this morning here, he says that this discussion is a good one and that he does't feel attacked or anything. He just wishes that there could be "collaborative" discussions rather than adversarial ones. It's not you versus him, it's everyone on the same team trying to come up with ideas to make things better for everyone. Me don't care either way. But it sure does suck seeing how so many people just use this site as just a file download site without even commenting on skins or posting or anything. You go over to los or da and there's lots of posting there with far fewer downloads. There's a lot of mindless banter there too but I could live with some banter if it meant getting more people to try communicating for a change.

Doreen, How can someone take Kenray's comment ouf of context. He says straight out that WinCustomize isn't a "major player" in the skin community. If that isn't the case, who are all these people using the megabits of bandwidth over here? I think Brad's point which I totally concur on is that Kenray's statement was an off handed admission of his own private views on what the community is all about.
