neo, there are no roll-ups in msstyles. I've had a year to look at msstyles now. It's a UIS1 type skin format. The only buttons support by msstyles are min,max,close and help. And they didn't execute on much of the code. You can't put buttons on the left even though the format says you're supposed to be able to. The story for msstyles gets worse though because time is on Windowblinds side. You say how it will skin more apps eventually. Good but right now it don't skin 99% of the apps I

Im not speaking for stardock but since only wb skins are recognized by microsoft who makes xp to be real xp skins the they are winxp skins. contrary to what some style xp boosters like to pretend, i bet most xp users use windowblinds. when you go to the section its straight forward. I have nothin against msstyles, i use them. but I find them pretty pedestrian, not much better than just sticking with windows classic. But that decision should rest with the author. Case in point I mentioned to Brad today, I used to write little freeware apps and released them with source code for OS/2. I would have been very very very upset if somebody had taken my code and ported it to 'windoze' without my permission. Just because I give away the source code doesn't mean I'm giving away the copyright.

WB3 skins (UIS) are the only authorized visual styles for Windows XP. kmkid, your argument would be like saying only .BMP files are native. And Chris, I love your watercolor theme. It is the best skin available for Style XP. But I've been using Watercolor skins for WB since last winter and there's not difference that I can tell between the two.

Hi kimkid. I am a bit of a fan of yours from your Watercolor skin. Watercolor doesn't actually exist publicly so there is no one to object. OS skins are generally considered to be a gray area where the OS vendor will quickly pipe up if there's a problem like Apple sometimes does. But taking from a fellow skinner is not a good thing. Brain enough with the FUD for christ's sake. You don't have to pay $20 for WB to change your Start bar. You can do that with the free version. Paxx, I write software for a living. kenray have you looked at how popular the non xp stuff is? Its really popular. WCs the place where the most litestep skins are downloaded and the most coolplayer skins and the most dashboard skins and so on.

Just upload it to WindowBlinds. It'll ask you whether it supports XP and if you say yes, it'll automatically go into the XP skins section.

Last Winter when Whistler was still in beta I looked at .msstyles mucho. It can change all the controls in XP. But in a very very very limited way. In WB, the skin author decides how big the titlebar is and the borders and the title bar buttons. In .msstyles the "skin" can't do much. The author has no say over the title bar height or borders or button sizes. And they can't decide where the buttons really go. Don't take my word for it, you can tell this without looking into it much. In X

Nothing is pure altruism though. The 545 crew are definite glory hounds. That's the payment they want. Nothing wrong with that. But companies can do altruistic things too. I've seen WC's balance sheet. There's no ongoing form of altruism in this community of greater expense than this site and deviantart. This should be its own thread, shog. It would be a good discussion.

I for one agree with you but that's what started the "hate" in the first place Brad deleted an aggressive thread and got called a Nazi. l0c's spanking may be good for the community in the long term. It will make people think twice about starting vile threads in the future if they know that the community won't stand for it.
