Until me and my girlfriend move together I got to a point where I got so deeply involved in my work and slowly stopped going to family reunion (birthdays, general parties casual visits) because when I was not working I was playing with design. After moving in together I started seeing things more or less like the way you describe. I love what I do and I'm still a bit of a workaholic but now I try to balance it with my personal life more often.

Not sure if I understand, what you want/need to blur and what you don't want to blur? Some blur limitations may apply due the OS (Windows Vista/7) own limitations.
