I see absolutely no difference whatsoever between this SP2 system and any other pre-SP2 systems with the same skinning products That is even better news. I wonder why a number of people have reported not all icons being skinned in IE? Maybe the RC or the latest WB build has fixed it already. I'll still hang back till I've finished thi

WHOA!!!! I did NOT say it worked with WindowBlinds. (But I will try and check).Don't bother with the "Beta". There have been VERY significant changes between the beta and the release canidate. Also, the only reason I have it installed on work test systems is to research deployment across my enterprise and verify application compatibility. If you're an end user, wait until

latin4567 - you might be right, but pointing to other people's prior crimes doesn't make one innocent. I've not checked, but you may find that the other such examples are actually only "in the style of bliss" and may have been created from scratch. I do like you're idea of making real world reflecting active desktop wallpaper though. There are a lot of people working in offices without sight of a window except the ones on the computer. If you have a camera, why not get out and captur

Koasati - so it does...why's that then? Something to do with alpha blended XP style icons and DX overlaying them _before_ it looks for which bits to then make transparent? I suppose the answer to the initial question then: Is there a way around this? ...is "No"....unless you want to use magenta wallpaper to disguise it <img

Orion - that's good to know. I was tempted to d/l the public beta myself to get up to speed with it, but I've heard that it breaks some WB things at the moment (toolbar icons for example), and since I'm working on a skin for the GUIO, that's the last thing I want right now - I have enough problems designing around the foibles that everyone shares at the moment, let alone trying to 2nd guess a load of others

latin4567 - I quite like the idea of your weather applet, to make the desktop reflect the outside world of the user. A further refinement which would be a REAL challenge for ya - get the stars on the night image to reflect the users actual location and the time. i.e. combine it with getting the graphics from one of the on-line astronomy sites that can generate a star chart for a given location. It should be possible to combine a few objects using alpha blends to seemlessly overlay (probably u

The initial post wasn't asking to change where the "My Pictures" folder points, it was wanting to change to having a different folder listed on the panel. Customizing the My pics link was the way I suggested it might be attchieved as there doesn't seem a way to add user ed folders to the list any other way. Besides, I agree with Koasati that it seems strange to object to someone wishing to customise one bit of their interface over any others on a skinning site...surely everything is up

connor_roberts - Object dock is jumpy and grainy when changing magnifications. I hate Object dock Have you thought of checking your video drivers, since I've been using OD for a good while (on and off) on 2 machines. On one, its as smooth as silk because the video card and drivers are up to the job, on the other, the pathetic old video

DesignCaddy - they _could_ choose to breach their own declared privacy policy and sell peoples details and even their information too for that matter, but I don't think that's their business model. I think they have figured that targetted ads based on the content of the e-mails you're reading will mean they will be able to sell those ads to people at a handsome enough price to cover the storage. Particularly in a future where there might actually be progress against spam, and all those direct

HG_Eliminator - I'm afraid I'm one who tends not to believe anything unless I can weigh the evidence for myself. In the case of Pluto, that evidence is based on having used a telescope myself, understaning the principals and the physics of how light behaves in such systems through directly testing it myself, and hence established the principal (to my own satisfaction) that planets exist, that gravity works in a way consistent enough with Newtons ideas as to be a reasonable estimate, and checki

(actually, those keys _aren't_ hard coded it seems, they seem to be picked up from here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel But, that doesn't help as even if extra options were added using these keys which would be far from trivial, I don't see how explorer would actually do anything with the resulting settings unless it were patched, or extended somehow elsewhere - which I haven't found yet....)

You can change the folder that "My Pictures" and other special folders point to using Tweak UI in the XP power tools, but the list of things you can include or not on the right side of the start menu seems to be hard coded in this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced As you can see, there are entries for Start_ShowX where X is: ControlPanel Help MyComputer MyDocs MyMusic MyPics NetConn N

If anyone is interested in the Microsoft list of what is new/changed in SP2 then this is worth a look http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2chngs.mspx Given how much is being done, I would have to agree that SP2 does seem a very worth while effort they're putting in. It remains to be seen how well they actually deliver on the intentions....

XX - actually, depending on who in the industry is asked, 1Gb is usually 1024 Mb as it's powers of 2 (Hard disk manufacturers have historically decided to use 1000 Kb = 1 Mb, but I think that's more for marketing reasons). Gmail site says that at present, the service offers 1Gb for each e-mail account....we'll wait and see what they actually decided to provide if/when it goes live to everyone. I know Google have many terrabytes of storage potential, but a few hundred million more Gb of

I think Z71 makes a good point - because the site has so much here, when all is new, everything is a wonder, but once you've satiated that initial enthusiasm, you're left waiting for the next great thing to re-kindle a flicker of that former glut, and you're left frustrated and wanting.

I'm in for it as soon as (if) it's available. Even if I only use it as a store for things I might want access to anywhere I happen to be by sending it to myself as attachments. The idea sounds intreguing though - never an e-mail again, never file an e-mail etc, and find things using good search tools. Hmmm, as someone who lives by e-mail for work, with Gb's of them archived over the years and still needed for reference from time to time I am always cursing how difficult it is to find

I have an idea - upload the skin with only half the stuff skinned, and then update it to the new improved wizzy fully formed version a few days after it first appears....that way you'll probably double your download count Of course, you'll also annoy a load of people and probably get a bad reputation, as well as incurring the wrath of the admins and eventually become a pariah...but what the hey, you'll be on

/me echos Styl skinner by quoting someone who I can't remember who: "If god didn't exist, we'd have to invent one" IMHO, I'm always amazed why would anyone choose to add something to their view of universe for which there is no evidence....and even more amazed when the thing they choose to add has so many obvious contradictions (1. everything has to be made, 2. god made everything - but why not apply rule 1 to rule 2? and since 1 is disproved by the world around us with quantu

If the skinner hasn't included a compact substyle, then the only option (I think) is for you to open it up and edit the skin yourself...take a look at other skins that DO have a compact style to learn how it's done - but basically it relies on a limitted size graphic at the top of the menu and the right margin settings etc.

leo7up - I've seen various reports here on on the newsgroups that XP SP2 currently breaks the toolbar icons being skinned fully in just the way you report, so my bet would be that you're running XP and have SP2 installed? If so, then I think it's being worked on, so hopefully the next revision will fix it for you. If you have a different set up, then it might be worth e-mailing [email protected] with full details of your set up in case something more wide spread is also causing the

Maggot - apparently (and I have to rely on other people for this), Stardock have introduced a "cool morphing effect" from one skin to the next so that it sort of fades smoothly from one skin to the next. I@ve not seem it as there is apparently an issue with dual monitor set ups, and also with old video cards (which I have both), so like you, all I see is a (long) pause and then a quick flicker and it's all changed. Opinions vary on if the morph effect is great or anoying, but the vast

As far as I'm aware, the murder rate per 1000 etc hasn't changed that much (at least, not in rural areas - cities figures do tend to be skewed because of other crimes/drug related deaths)...but what has chang

Geesh....Do we have to give your ball back too? Sorry, I shouldn't tease as you're obviously upset for some reason, but why is beyond me. The submissions appear on the list in the order they were submitted it seems, not the order they pass moderation. There seems nothing on this thread to cause such a reaction (from the outside)...I wonder why you're so convinced that everyone is out to get you tha
