Essencay - cool, I knew what I said worked as I've done it 3 times with my own skins now, and 2 or three times "fixing" others that I wanted to use - but the problem is if the design doesn't work well when rolled up that big, as you often can't make the rolled up state as compressed if you have to leave the bottom/top frame re-size margins visible....what would be cool is either a) this quirk is fixed in WB (though it's been there for ages), b) a separate "rolled up" image is allowed for the lef

Shameless Designs - well done for the explanation of how to make it work...It would be good if someone could come up with a formula for the left/top bottom content margins needed, though on the skin I'm currently working on I managed to look at things systematically and made sense of it for a while - but that was weeks ago, and I've already forgotten what I figured out! It was something along the lin
Satans Child - odd, I did the same thing to try and check the clicked image and now when I click it just stays on the rolled over state...ditto the start button itself. I have found with the start button that pressing the Windows key sometimes makes it display the pressed state, but only under some set of conditions I've not tracked down yet! I've never seen the pressed state when using the mouse for the start button, the all programs button or the MDI buttons for that matter... <br
#21 - oooh, I like that solution...very devious! BUT, can you hid a button on mouse-over another button? I thought you could only show them?
no probs. I look forward to seeing the results if it does work
1st, it's not bad. So I'm picking at things, and it's all just my opinion of course.... The grey background works with the title section...The title animation is fine. The left "buttons" look a little lost to me - they're not 3d looking but they're not anything else either, they have abrupt ends, and the stipyness when you have a lot of them stacked together looks too busy. One pet dislike of mine though is web sites which don't scale (width) to the window size, and y
Id be surprised if this is possible as it seems buttons only animate when mouse-over (from comment #8 above from Boxxi) How about making it all one button but with a large area of transparent pink between the close and the animated bit? As long as they're not too far apart that is?
Shameless Designs - hmmm, with so many skins out there, I would hope that stardock might consider just changing the labeling of the states in SkinStudio
The animation rate is how long each frame is displayed, so higher = slower. 1 is just about as fast as it can go It sounds like you need to set the 1st frame/last frame in the animation somwehere too to avoid seeing the inactive states - unless that's the glitch in 6 state buttons mentioned earlier?? Sounds like a cool idea you're working on so I hope you crack it <img src="http://images.s
BTW - I do want to say thanks to goodmorphing for bringing this to my attention as we're always setting up new machines and needing to apply service packs Despite having an 8Mbit link, it still takes a significant time to apply all the updates, and in that time a machine is vulnerable to the pesky worms. Having the updates on CD will mean we can patch them before we connect to the net now. (yes, we could get them from Technet and burn a CD ourselves but I've just never found t
paxx - good point...though, if you wanted to do that and not have the text you could assign shortcuts with different icons to each folder. Bit of a pain though I agree if you don't want the hassle...I had made the concession that the roll over text was white on blue though so it was sort of useable even with the same icons. I guess a sub theme with the option would be the best option. joetheblow - I didn't manage to get rid of the space the text takes up which is what I tried
DarkMist - it's not too bad as long as you know about it to plan for it. You need to make sure that the different elements which use those colours all work on the same sort of brightness as well as colour though or else it stands out an ugly mile...If you don't know where it will crop up, you might design one bit very dark and one very light and it just won't work against both....that's how it caught me out the 1st time. Çërêb®øJÐ - thats it I think...That's the other odd thing I noticed, ta. [Message Edited]
Please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. ...by which time of course there will have been another raft of updates requiring a large download or another CD being sent...
I believe there is a strange glitch in the six state button ...is this just when using animation, or all the time?? I've just switched to using 6 state buttons so I hope I don't have to switch back now!
Kongit - excactly...and if voting low, try and find a way to give constructive feedback on the reason as well as heaping praise on those you like when voting high
I haven't had the chance to play with any wide screen displays so I'm afraid I can't offer an opinion, but have you considered the use of multiple monitors instead?...with the right kit, you could have 4 smaller/cheaper LCD screens tiled side by side giving a nice big desktop for development work? Just a thought...Ideally I'd probably opt to get a nice big widescreen if the money were there though and add some small screens later from "petty cash" or the store room <img src="http://imag
Çërêb®øJÐ - I respect your intentions, but surely if everyone rated things that way then everything would get an 8 or 9, which would make the ratings pointless (more pointless?)....isn't it just as important to express an opinion on those things one doesn't like to balance the ratings? IMHO it is much harder to give constructive critisism on something you think could be improved than it is to congratulate someone on something you like... I've tried to always give reasons in the comment
As I said, I think this is going to be the default way I deal with the All Programs skinning in future - but there are a few little glitches I've noticed with this which people should know in case they wonder: 1) There is a noticable "flicker" when the mouse-over changes when the default background colour is displayed. 2) The Arrow button only ever seems to display 2 of the 3 states - the default and mouse-over. As far as I can tell, the clicked state isn't used. 3) ...I'm sure
Technician - cool...if correct then surely it'll work as long as web browsing works as it seems to issue http gets etc so the proxy shouldn't see anything different to IE surfing the web? I had a feeling it didn't though from something I'd read somewhere before, but since it works for me, I've never checked myself
Oh boy... /me is sooooo tempted to bite here and "recycle" all the information I dug up on the funding for the research which Bush has used to brow beat what suites his views through on the rest of the world etc. I'm walking away...remembering that there are non so blind as those that choose not to see...
I've liked that tip so much that I'm expecting to use it on every skin I make in future...a fairly easy way to take control of a bit that otherwise remains as a default.
Now what does that sound like? Sounds like a natural cycle in locus population, probably exacerbated by the prior draught - the same as often unfortunately happens in Africa. The locus population ticks over in lean times, and explodes quickly when crops are available. Why, what does it sound like to you? A biblical plague caused by the wrath
We have a firewall/proxy here at work and the DX weather objects work...however, I think the devil is in the detail of how the proxy and things are configured rather than a blanket yes/no on if it works (or how). For example, our firewall will allow HTTP traffic on port 80 and 8080 without going through the proxy - and since I don't think DX uses the proxy settings in IE, then I'm fine as the traffic is still allowed in/out. I may be wrong, and DX might use the proxy settings i
