Yes exactly. Basically get to a point where you can't play any more. Worse there's no recovery either...

On smaller galaxies they can be ok. The main problem is the speed. Who would ever build a ship like that with no speed ? (The AI ?) Even my small hulls get 2 engines. A capitol ship for me usually has 3 or more. They should just re-work the ranger to match what the average 10 year old could design. On the flip side, as designed you shouldn't be able to win a game just by getting one.
My main point again was that at this time we shouldn't be having these sorts of software problems. I don't ever expect stability problems. Bugs are fine. Stability and memory issues should be top on thier list, and I don't get the impression that they are. What is going on that they can't manage the memory usage this late in the games life ? I probably shouldn't have posted at all, since it was beta. However, there have been a lot of stability problems overall with this ga
YES YES YES. The best part would be that folks that cheese the anomoly system would suffer the most... I liked the potential drawback of exploring an anomoly. You could also lure them to attack an AIs starbases in GC1. They were probably a little over-powered in GC1, but I would love to see them make a return.
Man why does everyone mistake missles to be so good early ? Ya, you get 2 power, but they're more than 2x bigger... For me I like either lasers or mass drivers unless I'm the Yor or the Bugs to start out with. (Get decent miniturazation and can start with missles) Then later in the game I ussually go down the missle path. Missles I think in the end are best simply because the AI doesn't utilize defense correctly. As pointed out, they're easy to defend against. (but the AI d
What good would the CD be anyway ? You'll probably immeadiately need to download 6 patches for it anyway. How are you managing playing the current game ? Dont tell me you're still playing version 1...
even pluto gets extra dough...
So correct me if I'm wrong, but now the MCC actually gives +100% econ to ALL planets ? I thought evil was over-powered when it just affected the one planet, did good get something to balance this ? (i assume un-documented since i didn't see this in the log) I actually liked it better when it was basically a second capital. It was more strategic, this thing can now be built on a mud world... Why not change it so it actually does what it's supposed to ? (culturely fli
Right here : Debug Message: Save Game: About to save Debug Message: Saving game C:\Documents and Settings\Glen Gallagher\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\QuickSave.sav Debug Message: Num Sectors Across: 12 Debug Message: Saving: game mode is metaverse. The AI is not all that in this game. I personally think it does very well, especially in areas that I think would be very difficult to code up. However relatively simple things like building planets up, or researching and using defenses against it's opponent are still beyond its grasp. If it gets a tech lead, or just out colony rushes you, you can lose. Otherwise you're going to win as long as you play correctly. Things that allow you to do this are : 1) match up against
Here is my current debug.err. (the one from before is gone obviously) I had been playing the previous beta. (the one with memory problems.) Perhaps there is something wrong here. It's was a god dam save crash !!! What does video have to do with that ? The newest beta runs fine. (played around 5 hours today with no problems) It's not my drivers. It was the BETA. As I said some of the previous versions ran fine on my PC, some didn't. That's why I am inclined to not believe a system problem. MY POINT again, was that Stardock is not properly testing (or polishing) their software. I just don't understand why so many of you ignore the crappy job of testing/p
As I've said, I haven't had a crash myself since before the game was even released Have you really been playing the game !! ?? There where numerous non-configuration crashes hiding out in this game. When did you start playing, a month ago ? (most notably of these was the "Auto-save" crash) Look at my metaverse chars, I've been playing
It's not a system problem for me. Some of the many versions out there were stable for my computer. The beta I'm playing is obviously bad, but I started a game with it and would like to finish it out. (if i can, i just played the same 2 turns I've played 3 times previously.) MY POINT IS : STARDOCK NEEDS TO SPEND MORE TIME POLISHING, AND TESTING. AND please don't deliver a buggy expansion for us to debug for you.
I understand it's a beta, but as others have pointed out, even the non-betas have not been terribly stable. For me I have to play the beta, playing against the AI at maso is getting too easy for me. Jumping to suicidal is just too much advantage for the AI. And I do autosave every 2 turns, and I used to send in exception data. I used to just reload and startup again, but as I've said my patience is wearing thin. How long can you be forgiving for these sorts of bugs ? What s
I just started a new job, and therefore can only find time here and there. (was happily un-employed for last year (extended vacation)). I've had a game going for over a week now, I TRY to play for around an hour here and there. But it's getting harder since almost every time i play I end up with a lockup, an out of memory, or just a crash to desktop. I used to soldier on, send in the exception data, but I'm getting disgusted. I had thought getting the expansion was a no-brainer, but
The original game was not nearly done. It was playable, but no where near up to par with stardock's previous games. Having said that i think they've mostly gotten it right now. I still think the the AI can improve. (to me they got the hardest parts down pat, and the easiest parts have been neglected) PLANETARY MANAGEMENT. Just started a 1.3 game so maybe the game is finally where it should have been a year ago. I won't hesitate paying 25 bucks for this expansion however.
After restarting the whole game, my one save started working. So wasn't as bad as it seemed.
Started out with the classic turn button never coming back... Great. Then reloaded my quick save, autosave, and previous autosave to find that for each my ships had no range... IE Try to move, and you get the message that's too far away... Is there anyway to recover Stardock ? I guess i'll send my save in to support.
Not that i know of... But there really should be...
I've had the problem where you can't build a starbase on a resource after destroying the enemies starbase. (this existed in 1st version or two) I'm assuming a save reload will fix, but didn't start the game back up last night.
Back as well. Started a new job, and living in a hotel for now so i don't see much time in the near future for gc2... So what's the consensus on 1.3, is it just different, or really stronger ? Also do we want to kill this thread and just go with Norad's site ?
I didn't read all these, but i think the problem is the drawbacks of evil are in-significant in GC2. Lets see evil suffers these : 1) good guys don't like you. -> who cares...lol 2) trade can suffer. -> trade is pathetic for money generation, so no real loss 3) planets can rebel into fundamentalists. -> invade them the next turn, big deal I think the solution is beefing up these drawbacks and adding some new ones. It would be neat that if you turned the natives
Maybe you could have generals that were other human players. You could have 1 guy doing planetary management/tec research, a few people managing your fleets, someone designing ships etc. Could be some neat dynamics, like if everyone else is impressed with you, you get more stuff to control. Could also do it like mini-empires, where each general had his own planets, ships styles ect. (shared tec and money)
You get rewarded for your economy, population, tec level, and who knows what else. This score is multiplied depending on victory condition. (conquest is best) Then, this score is divided by the number of turns it took you to do it. So in all reality there are probably 2 maximum points in your score graph. One early on where you have an ok score, but are dividing by a small number. And then late in the game proabably around 8 years where you have a very high score, and are dividing
