If that's the strategy, it should be building cheaper ships. I'd love to see the AI build faster ships that run away from a killer fleet, and try to get a bead on my transports. Sadly the AI doesn't build ships fast enough, or have enough sensor range to really do this. If it at least did this it would sometimes take out some transports, or at the very least force me to protect my transports. I'd love to see the AI also occasionally build raider type ships that would try to

I don't know, but i'd like to experiment to figure it out. I tend to agree it's probably integral. I've also wondered if your "top" planets add in in some way. Since the stats show most populous, and most happy i've wondered if having 1 planet be uber populated might help. Oh well. I hope 1.3 gives the AI some improvements. I'm playing a game at large because the last few at gigantic have been fairly lame past mid-game.
Ok. What i did was constantly buy huge hulls to gooble up the extra money every turn to get back under 20k. It gets a bit tedius... With the eco boom i was making ~200k/turn. My econ score was pretty good for the population i had so i think you're right. Do you think it only matters what's going on at the end of the game, or an integral of whatever you made throughout the game ?
Trade should be improved, that would help with all the freighters. (or some of them at least...) You do need a good number of constructors, so i don't see that as a problem. However i agree it doesn't defend starbases well. This is mostly rooted in it's belief in starbase defenses...which are not worth the effort since by mid-game they are easilly over-whelmed by nearly any player fleet. Occasionally i've seen the AI plant fleets on starbases, and it was fairly effective. (especially w
You may want to go out and get another 512 of Ram. The game is playable at 512 but for me it was struggling on larger maps. Just get the game, and you'll probably want to get the ram later... My older 8550 video card worked fine, i'm not familiar with your card but it'll probably work fine.
No for 20k i ment money wise. If you have over it, you get something like a 20% penalty to your economy. Was thinking it could nock your score down, but havn't tested yet. It's easy to see it's there, if you look at your economy graph, you'll see spikes back and forth when near 20k.
Well i finished with 115k at maso without dragging it out at all. My score was only good cause i finished quickly. (just over 4 years) I may go back to see if playing longer would have increased score. I had an economic boom for what seemed like the last year of the game, and i was hoping if i finished while it was still active i'd get a better score. I'm not sure if it mattered. Oh well. Playing with just 2 opponents may be an easy way to go for high scores. <br/
meh. I like the tech tree. The old one, and Civ4 style tends to drive you down the same paths every game. It's neat to be able to say, i need a little more range let me go research that. The old GC1 you had to 2 or 3 pre-requisites to do it, and you'd have to hunt them out...
I like around 1/2 of your changes just on hearing them, but the rest seem too powerfull to the player. The ones i like are 1) shorter range. range isn't a issue in the standard version really 2) better trade. trade is pitifully weak in standard version 3) tech victory path should give you something on the way. 4) weapons bonuses. How well is the AI handling the MOD ? Since the AI loves trading, I would think it would get a good boost, but for the
If you're getting clobbered, then maybe that style is worth it. Generally if i'm losing, building military starbases at key choke points is what saves me. (and the AI charging into the death zones...) In general you're better off building faster ships. I like defense a lot, even on small hulls. I find if you get to large hulls, and research the right defense/offense you can easily get nearly invincible ships. (matched to your enemy) Out of ease of management, i general
I think you must be doing well in the research dept if you're not getting them via espionage or invasion. I get them left and right. There are some techs I just don't research, and pretty much get them right away when i go to war. Like i used to always steal the planet improvers, and the better miniturations(which the AI loves for some reason) and i don't bother with. Also using a different weapon and defense then the AI should improve your odds of keeping a steady flow of invasion
lol. nope. But it is funny. You've got you're own mystery spot. Maybe you should let them all gather around it, and then send in 5 ships to blockade them in there...
Also i've seen planets that the AI somehow must have deemed unsafe deep in their territory. They'd have 3-4 improvements but no factory. I assume that they ripped it down, but they really were in no danger. I think this happens mostly if you get into war while the colony rush is still going. My theory is on the planets that haven't built a defender, there's a chance the AI will think it needs to sabotage. I've seen dozens of planets like this, even sprinkled deep in AI
We're within a game or 2 of getting #1 empire !! I have a game going i may be able to finsh soon too. I suppose we maybe the only ones still interested in Metaverse tho...
I think they never really play tested/ balanced larger galaxies. The AI plays a hundred times better from gigantic to large. At medium i get a real good game. Too me it seems there isn't enough feedback in the AI loop between research, planet development, and social spending. It also over researchs, i've had games at maso where they had like 5x more research then me. However in this game, research doesn't win. Having the right weapons/defenses in sizable fleets does, as well as
I just noticed that the overall difficulty level can be made higher in a cheesy way. IE play against 2 opponents at maso, and you get 2 incredible. But then you can just go change the difficulty to suicidal. What counts as far as Metaverse ? What you select down there, or what the AIs actually were and how many ?
To join can be a little tricky. (nothing special about us tho.) Goto the high scores of the metaverse, and click on our empire. That page at the top will have a spot "join empire" click it, and which of your sub-characters and you're in. http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=empire&id=1161
OMG. So much bullsh*t here. Who cares ? In other news, the screenys of Dark Avatar show that some planets will have high gravity, forcing you to research an artifical gravity before you can colonize them. So GC will once again have AG.
Probably need to play with your spending sliders. Most people in the beginning of the game do something like this : 1) set 100% research. research xeno labs 2) set spending to 100%, or at least enough to get labs in 1 week. 3) quick build a factory, and maybe a colony ship 1st turn 4) go for impulse drive next 5) continue quick building factories/and or xeno labs through the beginning. 6) as money diminishs, set sliders something like 40/25/35. (mil/s
It is very expensive to upgrade a ship. Unless the ship has levelled up a lot (less likely with v1.2) or you have money to burn, it is better just to build a new one. That's why you need a monster economy. Its just much easier management wise to upgrede them. Ship wise i generally start out building small ships to get a mi
Actually i'd love to see some sort of ship manager. IE be able to say that you're playing profile X, and will use profile X ships, and have the button that clears out profile X. I love the Yor ships, but i also play the Thalians with Yor style. It drives me nuts constantly obsoleting the other type. I end up just deleting them all, even though i've had some pretty cool ships. Or how about marking a design so that it will be available in the future ? IE only have ships t
I play normal speed research, and i'm considering playing fast for a better score. However, as far as fun goes i would almost like it slower so i'm not sure if i really want to play that way. It seems the AI already outpaces its tec development vs social, i imagine it would be even worse with fast. Is that the case ? (IE having industrial centers early in the game seems to cripple the AIs social growth since it doesn't quick build the first one) Right now i'm
Ok whatever. I havn't tried doing just one farm everywhere, and i probably won't because population is key in metaverse scoring as well. I also like having a monster economy, so i have plenty of money worlds. It's nice to be able to upgrade entire navys, to be able to quick build a factory and a ship on each new planet, and never to be concerned with money. I agree that folks should experiment here, and see what they like. New technologies are not always better.
I clearly said for PQ14 or higher. I agree most planets should only have 1 farm. Advanced farms work real well on those planets, as the stock markets are enough usually to keep them happy. My point was researching farms pays off, because someone above was saying that better farms are crap...
The list of upgrades can get too long as it is, and think you should be able to buy the first factory or two late in the game. (if you can't, you're not building a good economy and god help you...) Although the AI regularly outpaces itself, and for the AI, sticking with older buildings would probably help it.
