Econ starbases rock. And hopefully they won't nerf them any further. Starbase defenses on the other hand, suck. You need to add a kagillion constructors to give any real hope of surviving a fleeted attack, and later in the game forget it. It's much easier to park a fleet of obsolete ships that you can upgrade in a pinch on your starbases. To me this is one of the biggest weaknesses of the AI, it relys on the crappy starbase defenses. Which means : 1) It wastes resources sending

The Korx thing is goofy. They have built in trade bonuses, but start out evil. I've tried using them as a "merchant" race, IE even more trade bonuses, but it's hard because you also need to get enough good ethic choices to go neutral. And i've had the same thing happen. Doesn't matter much, cause trade is a joke for gathering making money. You'd need +600% to make it worth while.
I've got a fairly old PC, and I don't think the graphics are the problem. The game runs amazing up to large galaxies, but with gigantic it gets pretty slow mid to late game. The only affect graphics have for me, is if i zoom way out during the turn transition. Do you have a crappy video card ? The only thing i hate, is when during your turn it gets uber slow. This mainly happens when i first declare war, and i suppose the AI is tring to sort out what it's going to do o
AI level does affect your score. Look at the top10. It's just not clear how much. I guess i thought it was obvious since i didn't mention it. For me it's around 20% more from crippling to masochist, but i have been playing differently since i went to maso.
You'd think it would be very possible to have both. Just imagine, if they had a form you could say "planets with pop in this range", production like this, and it would populate the list with just them. Then imagine you could say, for these planets now build this and send them there. It's very possible. The form could have all the planets properties. You could even say, planets that are undefended, build me my defender class ship. The current state of the governors is a lie. Th
It's a mystery... As far as I know, the only clear thing is that more population is more points. So Gigantic, abundant/abundant/abundant and (scattered or loose) is best. (Tight clusters definately has less planets.) You'd think that the other options could have an effect, but so far no one knows. Some of the options should be sort of a push since they effect both you and the AI, but the AI doesn't exploit them. Anomolies for example. I've come to believe that fast
Thats way too much reward for losses.
Come on. The Betas were way harder than the original version. The AI was better and better through the betas. I'm not sure how to deal with them. The fact is they allowed metaverse play with them. Over time they'd have faded into dust anyway. The only bad thing was the folks that were milking long games for points. That could have been solved by clipping the scores on long games. Maybe a "normalization" of all the betas should have been done, however what's done is
Love the game, but in an effort to get more things fixed before more features, what bugs you about about the current game ? For me : 1) Quirkyness of when you fleet up. Sometimes the ship focus doens't go to the new fleet, sometimes it does. 2) Fix the Thalains !! They don't do crap. Even on incredible. 3) Fix planetary management. I'm tired of seeing 5 farms on a planet. I'm tired of seeing a planet with no factories. 4) Allow the AIs to see how good s
Can't break 95k for anything. I just tried milking a game for a little bit, and i think i lost out by playing too long. I think my problem is i'm playing tight clusters, which my computer handles fairly well, but overall there's probably fewer planets than loose or scattered. I just don't see how to score any higher. What's sad is my new character in 4 games is only one rank back from my 32 game guy...
One definate problem is that no-one concerned with their overall score submits a loss. There shouldn't be such a penalty in doing so. Perhaps a loss shouldn't add to your number of games the same way ? I really wish Frogboy would post the ideas/philosophy behind scoring on the metaverse. It would hopefully quite threads like this down...
I just think you should only get the transport, and if the ship is out of orbit, then the price should be somewhat absorbant to get the troops with it.
I think the alignment options are fine. Choosing good shouldn't have immeadiate benefits. Otherwise an evil civ would pick them... The only problem is that the down stream consequences of evil are not signficant : 1) Fundamentalists are a joke, i can generally retake the planets in a week or two. 2) Limits to trade, trade is a joke. I routinely leave the UP. The only good thing about trade is improving relations. Make trade better, and give the fundame
Thank you Frogboy for the reply. I think you should probably sticky this post. A lot of people have been complaining about the scoring. Especially the older way where you'd play on game and get hammered. I think most people in the know like the current method of scoring.
Ya that is a bit cheesy. I think the tec stealing needs to be overhauled personally. You basically get one ~80% of the time you invade. One idea i just had was that you store your tecnology(s) on the planet that researched them, and someone capturing that planet would get a chance of getting some of them. (so having a massive tec capitol could be a bad thing if you lose it.) Or at least have an ability that determines odds for stealing. (and have a few tecs that increase it, and
use tech trading to keep near the competition tech lvl. build a monster economy so you can afford to buy opponent troop transports. they may still fight wars, but if you grab all the transports as they are built you drain thier populations AND make their wars pointless. in other words, keep the borders stable until YOU decide to change them. that one ai who was gonna run a
vote ha !! We're living in the beginings of a theocratic fascist state !! And we love it !! (or are just to ignorant to notice) Southpark had it right, here are the candidates : 1) Dusche bag or 2) Turd sandwich And i'm sure Turd Sandwich would rig the electronic voting in Ohio anyway...

Believe it's been changed to total / games^.4 It was something like Metalkid said. My character by the old system on the 32nd game went from 8th to 16th. I then started a new guy. Then they rescored everyone, and now i'm at 10th...
nope. I can see why it's missing, as it would have to make big decisions for you. Generally once you get used to the game, you can plan out your next 3-4 improvements, and the governor generally isn't important. However... I wish they had better govs for ship building and rally points. Ideally something that said : set X of planets, now build this and send them here...
The only way i can beat masochist so far is to play with all set to inteligent and one or two set to incredible. That one or two is generally the humans or Thalians because they're generally not dominant. They always completely dominate me technoligically, i just don't build enough tec planets to keep up with the way they build research on every planet. However my economy/population is generally better than theirs. This leaves me with the following strategies : 1) gra
GC1 had an artificial gravity tec. All it did was extend your range. I suppose these PQ25 planets are not really big, but just very easy to work with.
The box. You'll want to update it anyway. Version 1.2 is way better than what will be in the box...
Hey welcome back Norad. How much of the score is integrally calculated vs what you have at the end of the game ? I mean if something like morale is important, do you need to watch it the whole game, or just make sure it's good at the end ? I get the impression everything adds up through the game, so manipulating things at the end doesn't do much. Is that the case ? Also do you think it's better to have 100% morale or a stronger economy ? I'm playing out a
Conquest takes forever. Comparing it to culture or tec victory is a joke. Winning a gigantic in 3 years i just don't see it. Granted i don't play with fast research, but i just don't get see how it's possible to do AND to get that kind of score. You need to build an economy and population. How can you take the galaxy in that time and not have damaged your population ?
