Good to know. I've done poorly before using a strategy like what you're saying because i didn't get the key set of planets to build that research engine. So i've generally backed off the super focused strategy. However that's probably been a mistake, as on gigantic/abundant/abundant it should always be there. One game i had, my research cap ended up being in the system next to the dregin tech capitol. When i realized this, i quickly took them out. They were both PQ20+, and i ha

I was thinking the same thing. It would be cool to have auctions, perhaps every few months. Each race would post a set of ships for sale, and make bids etc. Could have controls were you wouldn't allow someone you didn't like to buy your ships too... They really need a better mechanism for trading ships. (like listing the fleet names in the trade window, so you could trade whole fleets) Because of that, i've mostly never even tried to broker ships. (and how often does the AI hav

Thanks. Thats unreal. I just had my best game and got this : Society: 29968 Tech: 17205 Econ: 49450 Military: 26504 Overall :82250 I had around 4 trillion people, and it went for 7 years. I wonder how tech works, i had researched everything except last 2. (did steal a lot of techs tho) At the end i was replacing some discovery spheres with vr centers. I could have milked it, but was tired of playing with the long turns. Do you think advance

I agree they need something like supply lines, or supply ships. What it would provide is an in-tangible that would allow a weak opponent to sneak out a victory, or at least set someback a ways. Imagine your doom ray equiped ships having to turn back, or being stuck out in the middle of no-where being pestered by ships that should have no business attacking them. Personally think best way of doing this is to decrease range overall, so you'd need to build lots of resupply st

Thanks. Playing out a gigantic and am probably going to just end it soon. Been taking my time cleaning out each AI, but i'm not even sure how long the games gone for. (seems like forever, since the turns go so slow) Curious if my score will be much better this time. My military and economy are rocking. Usually the society & economy scores are the highest. What kind of break downs are you getting ?

God this website sucks. Freaking horrible slow. Ok here's that link [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=345&AID=121909#945564"]https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=345&AID=121909#945564">Link Hey Norad, how many years do you target the game to go ? From what i've read if you play too long your score will go down. I've been getting better scores just by taking my time, where i used to try to crush the AI's as fast i could. Like you said though, it gets

i just read somewhere else they break your score up something like this : total games in each of last 30 days each of these gets divided by square root of games played in that month each of these then gets knocked down 10% for older months (cumalatively ?) then add them up I'll have to look around to find the post. Apparently thats how GC1 worked. So making a new guy may not be the way to go. Eventually someone who doesn't keep posting will fall off with this

um.... Are you building farms ? By the end of the game most of my planets have one farm, and the nice planets have 2 intense farms or 1 advanced. I generally have a racial morale boost, and try to gooble up morale resouces early. I also almost always have +20% pop growth in racial bonus as well. Combined with aphrodisiac, you can fill out planets quickly. The AI usually beats me to it, so i have to trade for it. (don't care for PQ boosting tecs early)

Ya i agree an unfair setup is better. Usually 1-2 of the civs won't do much anyway, so thier neighbors will do better even in a fair start. Best is 1-2 AI's in a great setup, you close to 1-2 civs.

Well i should be into the top10, right with jarru and major tom, so we'll have 3 in the top10. I need to look for a job... I've been treating this game like a job for the last week or so... Should i start a new character or does the averaging not matter since i've got 30 games behind me ?

Are their any penalties/bonus other than galaxy size from the galaxy setup ? Seems like setting blind start, no tech trading should give a bonus, but do they ? Also seems like disabling victory conditions should be negative. ------------------------------------------------------------ As far as planet flipping, it is a good way to go. I've been trying to use it more to keep my population high. I generally take some of their planets, either easy

427 Replies 668,119 Views

So have you tried over doing your population ? IE more than you'd normally have at around 25 billion on a nice PQ 25 planet. I've never gone higher, but maybe with trade it could work ? Perhaps that's why the AI loves to build farms that'll support > 30 billion...

Thalains and Yor are tough to flip. If they build the re-education center forget it. (the pirate symbol goes away tho so you know you can''t flip) I've had the same experience especially one game where i fought everyone except the Iconians whom i influenced out. Thier last planet would not flip. I think i had over 60 ratio. After i had killed everyone else, i had forgot that they were even still around, and i had to send a fleet up there to dispatch them...

First of all great game. But the governors/rally system really doesn't do enough on larger maps. My last game on gigantic, i nearly quit because of the tedium of having to manage which planets are building what. Basically you can setup everything the 1st time, and things will go good. IE best planets build capitol ships, mediums build fighters, rest build constructors. They all go where they should. The problem comes in when you want to add transports. The existing

Personally think it should be done via it's own page or something in the starport. I'd love a page where you could say, 'upgrade these into those'. Right now you only get once chance to decomission them all, other than going into a particular ship. Doing things like this at the ship level doesn't seem right. (should be a manager)

One thing i did a few games back that may have added to my score was building the spin center and the omega defense on the same planet, and leaving 9 battleships there... ( triple hit points lol) The reason i did it was i didn't want anyone else going to war with me, i was busy fighting 2-3 of the other civs at the time. From what i've read, i think this should improve your score. I want to get into top10, but i don't feel like playing gigantic map which i need to do it.

427 Replies 668,119 Views

I used to think folks complaining about this where a bunch on wine-ers too... There needs to be something done to keep people from quiting a character after 10 games. Perhaps that's what we should all do ? Maybe that's what they want ?

19 Replies 14,677 Views

UGGG... You're right the base value is MEANINGLESS !!! Once the mini frieghter leaves the starbase area the value drops down to the real base value + whatever distance modifiers... So i guess trade sucks again... I can't believe the pop-up window isn't showing the base value. I was getting routes when i had 8 starbases around my capitol worth over 160BC. But once they left the area...right back to the 20's.

It keeps your video card from trying to draw more than like 60 frames per second. Without it your video card can easily overhead. (esp a good card) It's not supposed to affect video quality at all. Most hi end games have it.

7 Replies 18,402 Views

Ya. Something needs to happen. Otherwise people will do what you said, and play 10 games and quit. Been bothered by this for a while because you could see many of the top10 were playing 1.11 beta and racking up points.
