I agree part of it is that they don't have much money, but often they do have a lot more than 300bc. The way I see it, a smart AI would proposition a trade a few turns after you get a trade good, looking to get it's bonus. As I've said even a few thousand bc would be well worth spending on the avg trade good on a gigantic map. I still think the AI hasn't been tuned what so ever for larger galaxies. (they should at least hold back more money in reserve on a larger map, for

The DA AI is better even with all the new features. It seems the only feature that really hurt the AIs are the colonization techs. The AI thinks they're great, and the reality is they usually are not critical. Other than that, the DA AI on average is much better. The AIs tend to have the same overall failings as DL though, so don't expect any miracles. Perhaps TA will improve on those areas. I worry though that all the race customization will be too much for the AIs, but you neve

I personally almost never tech trade, or piddle with the AIs for money or war. This is mainly because I can never fathom how the AI is valuating a trade. I can understand wanting to have the better end of the deal, or not giving away valuable techs. The strangest valuations to me are for trade goods. Say I have vr modules, or ultra spices, and I try to sell them to another civ. Often the AI won't offer any more than 200-300 bc for such a trade good. If you think a
My thoughts would be perhaps they *want* you to have that tech for some reason. Perhaps they dont wish to waste their time giving you things you want, unless you take things they want you to take as well. *shrug*
Why do folks look so hard for logic behind a bug?

Play funky yourself. IE, don't take the good bonuses at the start or the best races. For DL, that would mean not picking economy/morale/pop. Play the iconians for example. Play as good. Try playing completely different from what you're used to. It's a shame the AI isn't better in DL, but it does have an awefull lot of variation to deal with. Personally I wonder how much better the AI would be if it didn't have to deal with mod-ing. The reality is, every

Small ships in DA definately need help, and evasion to me is the ticket. In DL, small hulls worked because ships weapons all fired at one target. In Da that one huge hull can kill a whole fleet of smalls in one turn. This has essentially made small hulls useless later in the game. What I'm saying is make evasion only really effective for smaller ships. IE that behomoth massive hull shouldn't be able dodge anything... I don't think it needs to be a big effect, just

The biggest problem, is that the AI totally believes in starbase defenses. It does not ever park ships to protect a starbase. This often means in the beginning of a war you can wipe out a bunch of his resource bases, essentially cripling him. Worse, if you planned the attack, you can fully build on them that turn. Getting one or two military resources like this generates a huge swing. I'm almost of the opinion that if the AI can't learn to deal with this, that resour

You all forgot to mention that now everyone renting those videos is saving money that can be spent on other things, or can be saved altogether. Which means the avg joe doesn't have to work as much since things are cheaper.

I don't know much about thier AI, because I'm always playing them. They are completely amazing, and probably should be nerfed. (i'm talking DA, not TA) The real fuel for me is anomolies. That makes all those cheap factories run for a lot longer. Combined with econ/pop bonus you come out of the colony rush with a huge advantage. The other engine is getting constructors going earlier than everyone else... Play a non-crowded map, and it's a cakewalk.

I don't get why they don't make the starbases defenses better. The AI loves starbase defenses, wasting hordes of constructors on them, and doesn't use fleets at all to defend starbases. Which absolutely fails !!! Either teach the AI that they are worthless, and use fleets. OR make them better... What is so hard here?
IMHO though a lot of tweaks need to be done so as to keep the AI from sending these things out w/o protection as well as taking them out as a priority.
How can you expect that? The AI still doesn't know how to defend a starbase. How is it going to protect a moving starbase? The AI seems to use auto-attack. Auto attack uses the most chaotic algorithm i've ever seen. (I am always suprised at what it decides to do...) This is why I don't like all the ne

Ok. I'll send that in. I think the farm bug fixes itself on a reload, but I'll try to find that planet again... (and I've never noticed when the farm problem actually happens, but i read some where that it's caused by a farm being built the turn you load or maybe save?) The auto pilot should be easy to do, just take a fleet a ships and auto them into an undefended planet. A few seconds after they get there, the moves go to zero. (or once you reclick the fleet it will show zero, if y

The biggest problem I have with the current ethics is that you have to freeze when you research xeno ethics. After that, no more ethical dilemas... Why? All that would be needed is to make things delivered by your ethical choice(s) not function if you deviated. I know that could be a pain in the coding side of things, so I understand why they did it this way. The other big issues are that there simply are not enough other good civs and the value of trade is far too weak to ma

This is for the older test build, but are probably still valid. 1) Auto piloting into a foreign planet eats remaining turns. This seems to cause AI fleets to get stuck (they keep trying to attack a defenseless planet) 2) Still have problems with losing ship build notifications, very annoying. 3) Constructor/starbase graphics often get mangled when a fleet reach a resource, often show as a different ship. (not a big deal, but could be a sign of bigger problem)
They seem to be much more tactically proficient in TA... we'll see how that pans out, but they don't seem to be the ridiculous pushovers they used to be.
You mean the AIs actually make good use of ship designs? To me I've always thought the AI should be able to see that is losing (who cares what the graph says), and either adjust it's ship designs or seek peace. If someone tells me the AI is actually getting there I may actually go for TA. However, I don't see
Drengin: I think the ability is fine.
Ug. I used to love the Dregin before DA. Now I don't even play them because this ability is so lame. Outside of a small map what good are the free ships? Unless you're immeadiately going to war they are just kindling.

First, for me support came through. At least for my 1st meta game since this began... (it posted) Just going into stardock central and reregistering with the DA number (i think), as the support said, seems to have worked. What was curious was the instruction to do it on GC2. Not GC2 DA. Doogles did you notice this as well? (EDIT, note I haven't tried the save game from before that couldn't post, and I don't know that I will...)

To me, their are a few core problems with playing metaverse games. Those being : 1) you need lots of planets to get higher scores. 2) number of AI players isn't a factor in score. 3) higher tech speed enhances score 4) dragging a game out enhances score 5) playing good ethically is detrimental to score 6) conquest victory is key for score 7) anomolies are rediculously important. This drives anyone interested in meta scores to play a limited variation of

I tend to agree, but do see the need for the graphics moving forward. To me, the issue is more about testing, balancing, and fixing things before adding more and more features that are just going to make it even harder to do a good job on the AIs. On top of that, they've got separate AI code blocks for each race. That means all that smarts has to be separately designed/coded/balanced/tested. And then the icing on that cake, is that only Brad does the AI. So the reality is
I have no evidence to back this up, but I do get a feeling that I am getting an edge (exploiting) over the AI when there are abundant anomolies.
Absolutely. I don't think anyone can argue that on a gigantic map especially. (and even more so if you're not playing against a bunch of AIs) I personally see this as part of the reasons the thalains are so good. Its just way easy to crank out surveyors early.

7 Replies 4,346 Views

Yep. Either that, or make anomolies not like winning the lottery early on. I definately think some attention is needed here since they made them respawn. How about at least renovating them to GC2? For example, the "experience" or weapons bonuses are not worth anything in GC2. (unless you build a fighter with a survey module) They DID mean some thing in GC, because the survey ship started out at 1/1 i think. That sucker would often be a serious contender mid-game.
When paranoia about cheating ruins the honest player's experience, it's time to look for a better compromise between security and usability. I need to retry DA, but I think I'm in the same boat. I was just going to email support to try to get them to fix things, and I figured I check the forum. Wouldn't it be great to just allow either serial ? I geuss that might interfer with resales, but who cares? There could just be an unregistration/transfer method. (is there already?) I've read a few posts on this, and there just doesn't seem to be an answer. Right now I can play DL metaverse, but not DA. DL is just too e
