Hopefully someone will come along and guide me towards the light.
AW Trespasser
I have the updates. When I save a ship, its all good. However, when I upgrade, it removes jewelry AND everything else. Then, when I rebuild and save, it says, "are you sure you want to overwrite the design"or some such thing.... Amusing isnt it?
I had no idea luck could be anything other than an afterthought! Then I thought about a saying I had when playing FPS games and some called me "Lucky"... I always told them "Luck is a skill, silly!" I'm noticing a "trend" towards 3 main things: Diplomacy, economics, and research, as far as the posts here go. Influence seems to be a close 4th so far. This forum is so educational! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Cool.gif" border=0 ALIGN=
I am still experimenting with customizing my "favorite race"... and quickly learning that not all abilites/parties are created equal. I like having some diplomacy, influence, and a moral bonus so far... what do you pick? Why?
I understand the bandwidth problems, I manage a forum with 200K ++ posts per year. I would like to see something more conformed to the normal forum type however. This forum can be navigated after a few hours of getting to know the layout, but it is definitely not organized like your average everyday forum is, and I am sure that is what causes 50% of the frustration you see here.
Im sure I am missing something completely simple and everyone is pointing and laughing at me.... And yes, I have "skip leftover moves after autopilot" unchecked.... but it seems to me silly to even have the option since it appears that autopilot only engages after you end the turn.....
Hmm... yes that does seem a bit backwards.... I should beat down everyone except the last planet of the last civ, then hit end turn repeatedly to make the game longer and thus increase my score? It seems that if i defeat the enemy on turn 100 it would be more impressive, and thus more worthy of a good score, than if I win on turn 700.... The number of opponents and difficulty thing I agree with you 100% Higher difficulty should =higher score, more opponents should also = hi
Just a little more info about us. We are all about fun. We don't care who is better than us, the only time we get jealous is if someone is having more FUN than us That's not to say that we don't like to compete... competing can be fun. Its just that we don't go to unjustifiable lengths to win, because winning isn't really the goal, having fun is. So, if you ever hear an AW member talking l33t sh
No one knows?
To upgrade a starbase, send another constructor to it.... many ways to upgrade it, but all done via constructor.
Oh, forgot one more variable.... length of game. I just ended a game very very quickly, thinking I would get brownie points for a fast victory. I scored about half the points as I did the previous long drawn out game.... but then the fast victory was an alliance victory, so I guess that could have been the reason. Anyone know where to go to find this stuff out?
I am starting to like defensive builds as well. I am also learning to build mediums instead of large, they are almost as effective and they pop out quickly. Its fun to watch a 1/beam, 6/pointD fight it out against a 6/missile heavy fighter, which the ai often seems to favor in my games. Almost qualifies as hilarious
AW is a multi-game organization founded in 2000. I say organization because it has very little in common with most gaming clans, other than that we play games Our membership requirements are in depth, we have a well described code of conduct, and we have around 100 dedicated, mature members ranging in age from 18 - 65. Yes, I said 65. Our average age is somewhere between 27 and 33. I'm guessing you have figured out where the "Ancient" p
It seems they left something out. It shows the ranks, starting with ensign, however it doesnt appear to show how to improve that rank. Am I missing something?
Yes, I am still learning all the ins and outs... much like rock paper scissors, nothing will always win. You have to adapt to what the opponent is doing, and thats rare in a game. In this case once I realised my strategy wasn't going to work, I completely shifted into research mode, all of my BC went to one thing: BIG SHIP. Once I had that I refused to trade it with anyone fearing they would then trade to my opponent, and the tactic worked pretty well... this time, hehe.<b
Are there any good places to go and see how the game calculates your score? I know there is a breakdown of what your score is at the end of the game, but it doesnt really say how you arrived at those scores, whether researching provides more points than production, how the map size and other options affect your score... even how the difficulty affects your score other than harder = more points. I'm sure I just completely missed the detailed analysis on page 1.... hehehe.<br
I'm not sure how the autopilot handles extra movement points at the end of its journey. It "seems" that autopilots move after you hit the end turn button. If the autopilots destination is 1 tile away, and the ship has 8 movement points, it "seems" that those points are wasted. Am I falling victim to an illusion? Is there some setting that can make your autopilots move oh, say,at the BEGINING of a turn? (Seems like that would be an easy solution, if there actualy is a pro
I'm just starting to understand the game well enough to play against "bright" enemies without fear of losing. I just wanted to post about an experience I had in game recently. The Thorans were sending out swarms of fighters, with stingers and no defences at all. (I have yet to see a civ use a different tactic, but then I haven't exactly played on "kill me now" difficulty yet either) At first, I tried to imitate this tactic, and I found that I was defeated in nearly ev
Oh... I did hit more, still nothing showing there concerning shields except for starbases.... I sure wish the downlaod version came with a manual....
Wow, that was fast.... thanks. I am indeed in the campaign, so I guess I better start building lots of disposables
Sorry about the double post... If I may, I would also like to comment on this forum structure. I'm trying to think of a polite way to say... it blows chunks. Sorry, but I truly have never seen a more cluttered, difficult to navigate forum. In addition, posts don't seem to even go to the forum you posted them in, making them kinda hard to find later if you assume they are where you put them. I actualy had to run a search to find my own post. Neways, hope my o
Ok so I can see where you can research armor for your ships. I don't see any techs that give your ships any other types of defences. I do see modules you can put on your starbases for shields... but nothing for mobile ships. I don't see the 3rd type of defence, the one for missiles, anywhere. I have surfed, but it seems everyone already has this knowledge and thus there is no discusion of it. Where can I find info concerning how to put defences other than ar
Not if the AI is throttled to use a certain maximum system time and run in a seperate thread.
Thus making it a software limitation, and not a hardware limitation.... the hardware is certainly capable of more were it not "throttled"... Like I said tho, great game, no need to quible over silly minutia like that. The support for the game is awesome as well, its not often you find a game where the people and staff are so helpfull :)
