Doc: Imagine for a minute that you are trying to get into a country club. They have criteria like, you can't get in if you are apt to be on welfare. If you can't pass aptitude tests on law, history, and English, you aren't eligible. The list of things that disqualify you is immense, even sometimes if you are sick or have broken oppressive laws imposed by dictators. Then you find out that they have members that violate all of them. They finagle their kids through school whe

"You do only see silver linings, Baker...you seem to see the violent radicals as simply another stripe of "peaceful Islam", another "denomination"......like maybe they're simply the Methodists, or Episcopalians or Baptists, of Islam, rather than the hateful, destructive monsters they really are. You just don't worry about them." And you're a lying waste of skin without the intelligence to debate without making false accusations like that. Anyone that di

P.S. By the way, before people keep saying I don't get it, you might want to reread and figure out that no one that has replied to me yet, no one, has gotten what I am saying, and most of you are just knee-jerk assuming the opposite.

"Do you realize that by this concept every child that does not understand at all any of these criterias are automatically stripped of their citizenship?" ? You guys are straining hard, lol. It would be perfectly resonable to allow those born here citizenship until they prove unworthy of the title American. You guys are dodging clumsily. The fact of the matter is we set what it takes to become an American, and then ignore the fact that a great many pe

P.S. You might also want to take into consideration that Washington was a military leader, as well. It might put a different spin on what attitudes he might have. I don't think you can for any reason assume he would have opposed a ban on gay marriage. Nothing you have there seems to lead to that conclusion. Also, people seem to forget that a lot of these people spent their nights doing things that during the day they supported laws against. People always cite Benjamin Franklin, etc

In the end it is "what you are" versus "what you do". George Washington wouldn't have seen homosexuality as a type. He would have seen homosexuality as an act. People who assume that past political figures would approve of stuff like this ALSO assume they'd have our modern opinion that homosexuals are naturally predisposed and there's nothing they can do about it. The fact of the matter is there is no real reason to believe that, other than the pressure we feel to accept homosexualit

Total lack of fear . People in these places feel that they are untouchable, no matter how heinous their actions. If after something like this they found the person or persons responsible hanging flayed in the victim's family's backyard, well, they might think twice. I find it difficult to believe as a husband and father that someone could just let this go with a monetary settlement.

"YOu cant choose your family. Only your friends." Huh? The naturalization process IS choosing your family, right? This is more like saying you can't be in my family because you have a disease or can't speak good enough English, but never mind the sexual predators we let roam the back yard... The fact of the matter is if America turned the mirror it used to control immigration on itself, we'd probably lose about a third of our population. Isn'

"Maybe you have not been noticing but the terrorist attacks that we have had were not attacks on specific people these terrorist were mad at." Again, are you talking about terrorists or Muslims? You claim that I am not taking into consideration that you are talking about terrorists, not Muslims, but then you make statements about rank-and-file Muslims and pin the characteristics of terrorist attacks to them. "Here we

"i'm going to assume that some didn't think thru their comments above." Did we think through the criteria for becoming a US citizen? This is the abridged version: you have good moral character (in particular, this means that you have not been convicted of a crime, have not failed to pay taxes, and have not failed to register for the draft) you are able to speak, read, and write in English</

It speaks volumes about Saudi Arabia. The fact that they have such a piddly GDP, and that the leaders can be so fabulously wealthy shows how much actually gets to the people there. Would be interesting if there was one for yearly earnings, but then we'd have to have several countries per state for a bunch, I bet.

So, it is a well-known fact that Einstien couldn't add 2+2? Odd, I've seen documentaries, read a a biography, and so far no one that studied the man said he couldn't add. So you really think it is a well-known fact? Seems neither well-known, nor a fact. Just like it is a well-known fact that supposedly Muslims either want to kill you or convert you. Can you feel yourself digging a deeper hole every time you open your mouth? I'm calling you a liar. Show me he couldn't add

Transcript of the third Republican presidential debate. Evidently "American" just doesn't mean citizen of the United States to many people besides Mason. "QUESTION: With regards to illegal and legal immigration, in your opinion, what does it mean to be an American? What are the tangible and intangible attributes of an American? VAUGHN: Congressman Tancredo? TANCREDO : It means, number one, cut from the past. If you come here as an immi

""American" denotes nothing more than the nation of which one is a citizen and is in no way a qualitative term." Wow. Good bureaucratic answer for this particular discussion. On the other hand, when people are asked the question, or people write about what being an American means to them you come up with a LOT of different answers . Funny how sometimes

"Taken to its logical conclusion, the ONLY thing one can conclude from your statements would be the eradication of Muslims." Don't forget forcible conversion. So that leaves us killing or converting the people that we imagine are set upon killing or converting us. Isn't it amazing how hate manifests itself in universal ways, whether it is radical Muslims in Iran or their foils in America? When we have to stoop to making ourselves into the evil

"No, they do not have to "earn" it. Except one way. Obeying the laws of the nation they want to become citizens in. After all, the ones you describe - when caught, are put in jail for their crimes." Yeah, but they are still "Americans". By virtue of what? Hard work? Devotion to American ideals? Patriotism? Nope, just because they happened to be born here. I'm just saying that if we want to portray to the world that the title "American" requires the k

"I love how you can dismiss and chuckle derisively about Christians and Christianity in general when it suits you (I've noticed your blatant disdain for KFC), but will champion its beliefs when it supports your position." I'll deride hypocrisy no matter whether it is my religion or someone else's. Unlike others, I don't devote my ire specifically to any one flavor of stupidity, and I don't in any way avoid my own religion. I've been up to my neck in re

"This is apple and oranges my frined and you are just trying to come up with analogies to back up your beliefs." No, it isn't. It's insane that we protect the idea of being "American" by making people pass tests and jump through hoops for years to become one, and then let child molesters, murderers, and rapists enjoy the status just because their momma squeezed them out here. If we really believe that you have to "earn" the title, then why don't people

I think most of those quotes were more jokes than proof. Look at the link I posted above and they get into Lincoln's relationship with Speed. I don't believe he was gay, but given I'm no real fan of Lincoln I wouldn't be crushed if the diary and letters really do exist and prove it.
