wulfn1: They don't mean it that way. Fact is MICROSOFT is not gonna support 98 anymore, either, they've said so. Sounds like no big deal til you think about DirectX and such. Facts are it is 5 year old OS. The money thing is an issue to people like us, who use our hardware as hardware, but the average person never sees an OS in the box. They buy it on the pre-built they replace every 3 or 4 years when their newest games won't play. I feel for ya, but time marches on. I don't expect people

re Mr. Einstein: !!???!?! Gah, jeez, I don't wanna be a troll but... "Win98 and ME are unskinnable OS's"...?? urm... wtf have I been doing for 4 years? I had a CELERON 400 for three years, running a multitude of skinnable apps comfortably, and it is running them in the living room now... I also have a p90 laptop with 48 megs of ram running a sweet LS theme over 98se in my bedroom, and it functions flawlessly as a nice LAN stereo and Ebook reader. Windowbli
p.s. I use 2000, and have no plans of upgrading til I can't use the average piece of software/hardware, or the planets line up and Linux runs photoshop flawlessly and has decent wacom drivers.
my thoughts, a) many, many people don't like product activation. Especially l33t, make-my-desktop-look-like-the-Matrix types. A new copy of Windows for every pc is often not an option, so its possible *some* PCs will be running 98se in a household. So it is either 2000 (which is expensive) or stick with 98, which seems to be the norm. b)Aren't places still selling 98? I would have *sworn* that I saw it on a shelf less than a month ago at a couple of different places (stapl
well it was guaranteed to work IF they had pointed to the right spot for the shell, which I guess is a big if, with all the re-install rants I have seen...
I know there is good reason for the theme standard, but it is a pain in da butt for the people it is trying to help, imho. Before, your theme was guarenteed to work, you distributed *everything* to make sure of it. Now, if a theme is misconfigured in reference to their directory structure, or if the theme is out of date, you have a farked shell. That leads your average newcomer to reinstall windows *gag*. Maybe they need a set of manditory things to happen "onload" (i.e. a set of basic funct
kickass! oh, pardon my french. look forward to seeing your skins...
Another thread? I would imagine that you can find lots of OS rip-offs in windowblinds section, among others. I know that windowblinds has a OS section, try there. Or you can go out and get a mac, which would be dumb, but at least wouldn't be using a knock-off.
Does God answer forum posts? Dear God, About that lottery thing we were discussing...
looks like that damn WB section is getting too fat to me.*cough* Oh, I meant wallpaper section, yeah, that's what I meant, really... (I should know better than this...) This whole place is a business expense; cheap advertising all around, right? I mean, what would you have to pay to get this much exposure on other sites, with the added community word-of-mouth? Aren't the people who are most heavily using this place are SD users/subscribers? the content would make i
perhaps not 'skinner' as a 'creator of skins' but a program that skins the UI? the reference to 98 makes me think he is talking about WB.
AMD and intel is really personal preference. Remember though, that intel is dropping prices before the holidays, when the 3gig processors are coming out. Up to 65% i think. You might want to wait a bit if you are going to do much over 2 gig. The main considerations in your case should be drive bays, the amount of fan ventalation you can put in it, and MOST IMPORTANTLY the power supply. MAKE SURE that it has a pentium 4 power supply if you go with intel, they have an extra motherboar
