I like the "hard-coded" bonuses of the main races (as if you want to make a truely custom race, there's the custom race button there). Though I do hope we can get a clean-slate option for customs (perhaps give them 15 points to work with?).

Static borders in space are probably as doable as static borders in the ocean. The best you can do is threaten anything that gets too close to your actual territory (in our case, land, in GalCiv's case, planets) to go away or be blown to bits. So all we really need is the "get out of here" ultimatum option.

It sounds more like a problem on the XFire side of things. Open up xfire_games.ini in the XFire directory, and scroll down to GalCiv2's entry [4778]. Note the line: LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\Path I'd check your registry for that and make sure that "Path" is leading to the correct directory.

You can also make a reply here: http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=404309#404309 In the meantime, if you simply want to use in-game chat (as a temporary, until it's hopefully officially supported), you can add this to the end of xfire_games.ini - [9999] LongName=Galactic Civilizations 2 ShortName=galciv2 LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\Path LauncherEXE=GalCiv2.exe Launch=%UA_LAUNC

It's indeed changed to a defensive only pact. But, if a torian ship is being "attacked" - then that means someone declared war with em, and that'll kick in the alliance.

2. In most cases, loss of ships is largely irrelevent. What, do you play on difficulty settings far below your abilities? Some of us like a challenge, and that challenge is seeing how well we can do (with the difficulty cranked as high as we can handle) without the use of exploits or other such. Half decent tactical combat would render the entire g

Variety, depends on mood mostly. Generally though for space games, sea animals. Tuna, Barracuda, Swordfish, Dolphin, Orca, Hammerhead, Kraken, etc. Name depending on size/purpose. Though I also tend to use things along the lines of Vanguard/Sentinel, and Phantasm/Ghost.

More important than december 7th 1944, 9/11, and the birth of christ, combined! Is there something more happening than GalCiv2's release I'm not aware of? Like I don't know, an asteroid hitting the Earth and wiping out humanity? Alien contact? Discovery of an infinite supply of energy? End of world hunger?

Ok, but my point, which you missed, is that adding tactical combat wouldn't take away from what you already have. You do understand the concept of development time, right? I'd rather the devs spend time making or improving something that I'd use than some tactical minigame, which would exist simply to allo
