If you have the registered version, it may be possible to do this just by selecting silver in the colour tint box (next to the subskin selector). If not, just open up the start button (probably called xpstart.bmp or start.bmp) in any graphics editor and change the colour to silver with something like the Colourize command in PSP.
Well, on XP there is Hyperpaint. This really does work in eliminating repaint time (*if* you have a fast card, GeForce or up). Also, on XP WB uses some of the "native" theme-painting methods (there's debate about exactly how native MS Visual Styles are themselves). I'm not sure how much this increases performance, but I haven't noticed it being any slower.

Heh. I always write in dark green and have terrible handwriting. All my teachers know who's paper they're marking even if it doesn't have my name on the top. *g*
Actually, I *haven't* excelled in performance. I've done a lot to promote _awareness_ of performance issues, but "Docking Station" (really, my *only* published full skin - "Digital Age" was cool animation-wise, but not very usable) certainly isn't the fastest skin around. This is where you have a point in saying every skin must be judged on it's merits. Of course, I *do* still intend to go for "Fastest skin" in the GUIOlympics (as well as a few others in another skin, if I can think of
I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and notepad, mostly. I tend to use the mouse, though occasionally my Wacom tablet sneaks in (I find it's not as good as the mouse for close-up detail work).
Crumpets are sort of spongy batter (but solid - pre-cooked). You toast them and then put butter on them. Usually quite small. See http://www.tea-n-crumpets.com/main.htm Oh, and one thing that caught me out was chips. Here, "chips" == fries, and "crisps" == thin dry wafers of potato pre-cooked, which you call chips.
Heh. Just be glad you don't have any of those chocolate floppy disks hanging around - it gets hot inside computers . . .
This may not be impossible with the SkinCast that's coming along. Stardock already has a rough idea of how many users use each skin via the "Internet Integration" feature (yes, WB has spyware! )
People are unlikely to if you don't give any indication of what sort of theme it is, and what sort of plugin you want.
What you need is ObjectBar for the taskbar and start panel, and WindowBlinds for the windows. Look for skins/bars with the word "Luna" in. You can get the programs from the download links at the top of the library displays (just click on the names in the Library list). Logon screens, I'm not sure about - I think they're only editable on XP (anyone else know?)
I think MouseOverColour=1, where you have a [Colour1] section?
Yesss - drown them - drown them all! Them and their perky eyes and fluffy whiskers! /me thought he saw person C standing on the side shouting "oh no, please don't kill my puppies!" - I'll get him later, too. Mhuahahah!
*waves Notepad flag* Yeah, I've already gotten GUIOlympics related spam, from a site I never even heard of. I imagine the more well-known skinners are getting even more. After all, there's real money involved . . .

Remember, WC gets a lot of drifters that are just looking for XP-look skins because that's what they think a good UI looks like (plus they want it to match their *other* skins). People may say they want something different, but the evidence, and research, suggests that what most people *really* want is something that looks similar to what they have already. People like to feel comfortable. That's why it's important not to move stuff around too much, and it's why XP-style skins are so po
. . . though if you made 10 skins in the time available, the chances of any of them winning would probably be remote. Or you'd lose your job/fail your exams/your wife would leave home.
You can only use CursorXP (the program that uses the cursor packs) on Windows 2000 or XP - it will not work on 98.
Check that you've installed the WB3 Fastload patch at http://www.windowblinds.net/default.asp?page=download
My experience of that is them coming, and looking and saying "hey, cool", and then going away.
Also, if you're having trouble with skins not loading on boot, check out the WB3 Fastload fix at http://www.windowblinds.net/default.asp?page=download
Stardock already has LogonStudio for the welcome screen (check out the Logons section). I've heard on the newsgroups that the boot screen is being worked on, but no solid date or anything yet.
As I understand it, IE paints it's own scrollbars (which is why WB couldn't skin it in the first place). Now, IE only has to worry about theming on XP. There, too, IE paints it's own scrollbars, but it does it by finding out what the scrollbars look like on it's own. Since it only does this on XP, though, WB can only skin it on XP.
