So . . . what good would a bigger military have done, exactly? Could the US Army have prevented this? Or the Navy? Would they have detected the terrorists before they acted? Sure, it could mean a faster and bigger retaliation - but nobody seems to know who did it for sure yet, and maybe they never will. The only thing I can see that *might* have helped stop this before it happened would be a better intelligence service. But even then, there are limits. Already, it's not really possible to

Nah, it just means that people in here are being lazy . . . *grin* To change the taskbar and start menu, what you really want is ObjectBar. Now, a public version of this isn't out yet, but it *will* be "real soon now", so you could wait for that (or buy a subscription to the Object Desktop Network and get it now . . .) - the Object bar page is here: https://www.stardock.com/products/objectbar/ Alternatively, you could try a DesktopX theme with a replacement for the taskbar. Perhaps there should be a "don't announce this update on the newest additions" checkbox on the update form. I'd kinda like to update a few attributes on "Docking Station", but I only put it up a few days ago, so it'd look like I was just trying to get more downloads.
Yeah. It'd be absolutely great to see that integrated into WC - maybe those skins that were actually *usable* might get revence against the eye-candy
Yeah. I hear precious little about the Mac world - it's nice to hear about it now and then.
Same here, iMike - I make do with my PII 350 - 320Mb of memory and plenty of hard drive space eases the pain . . . *g*

I agree, Indigoe, although it helps if users don't do stupid things that cut performance. There's many skinners who would do well to consider performance when they skin, too -

I think 102000 downloads is comment enough -
Erm . . . assuming you meant .bmp and .jpg files. It's exactly 300x300, in fact.
What are the limits on skin previews? I keep on getting: aspSmartUpload.File error '800403f2' The file : 'C:\Program Files\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\DigitalAge\DigitalAge.gif' is not allowed to be uploaded (Error 1010) /upload2.asp, line 120 The file in question is an animated GIF, size 65 Kb (I tried one 46 Kb big with the same results).
Why wouldn't a Napster-style thing - or better, a Gnutella-style thing - work? You could end up with a "Distributed Skins Network". No worries about a skin going out of distribution - *if* people thought it was good enough to keep, they'd have it, and even if the initial site went down it would still be there. Obviously this would be on an opt-in basis - if you used it, you'd be encouraged to share, but not forced to. There'd be a few problems that would have to be overcome (such as how
>Now, should walls, skins, and themes, >be driven by consumer demand or by >individual artistic creativity? Nothing's driving them anywhere. If you want to look for skins that are in line with demand, go to the top 10 downloads. If you want to go by creativity . . . well, that's hard to judge, though I'm sure you could do it by having some people rate them and have a top 10 rated skins. But as to what I think in this case, yes, I don't see that there's any problem in pe
I don't see the problem. You're giving people what they want. You're making them happy. People *like* XP wallpaper, possibly because MS prices it high enough that not everyone can afford the real thing. Trying to force people to like stuff that seems good to you (but which they *don't* like) onto others isn't the way to please them, and in the end, there are obviously more of them. If you know you're good, and other skinners know you're good, should you care if you (or people *you* think are goo
