UFO: Enemy Unknown. It's survived in its battered Sold Out CD sleeve for thirteen years. Only moved once in that time, but there's been more than one occasion where I've misplaced it and spent an hour or more searching for it. Precious. ;)

I think I'd probably just be re-inventing the wheel. The only thing I can think to do at this point would be to alter the weapons tech tree and add some new components so that the AI gets some decent defences without having to plod through the Defence tree. It doesn't make sense to me for there to be so little gained with the early Defence techs which actually slow down the AI's development of weapons in the event that they're facing an opponent with better weapons.

Small ships may be able to outmaneuver the guns of large ships for a little while, but not forever. The advantage of a large ship is being able to have enough guns pointing in enough directions that a shocking hit-to-miss ratio will still allow it to kill smaller ships. It can also afford to cram in enough defences that in a given round of combat, those smaller ships can barely get the defences down on their own, never mind graze the hull. Besides, even with such an advant

The basics of modding: either modify existing game resources or create new stuff and figure a way to make it appear in the game. The XML files are relatively easy to mod in Notepad. You can use the tools supplied in Twilight's Tools folder for some modding tasks, like modifying the racial-specific tech trees. Obviously, overwriting your original game resources is a bad idea, so instead you create a mod folder and copy the things you want to change into that folder, and

When you edit a race in the opponent setup, you can choose to create a custom ship style on the Appearance tab. You can then pick ships from your existing stock of ship templates for one of the basic styles (hint: go into the Ship Designer and make a few beforehand) click Change to switch out the usual models and when you're done, save the Ship Style for use by that race. You may still have to pick the ship style from the list so that the race will use it. Although there

The Terror Star is listed as a fourth type of starbase once you have the first tech finished. If you don't see it when you hit Construct then a.) you're playing in campaign, and it won't be available at the bit you're on, or b.) you're in a Sandbox game and the United Planets have outlawed Terror Stars, making it impossible to build them unless you leave the UP, or c.) It's a bug.

It'll take some time to play out games and see if the AI researches techs at the appropriate time. There's always a risk that changes will hinder the AI instead of helping them. But what I've just read about the Iconians tech tree makes me want to cry. I noticed that they never seemed to get it together in any game, and now I know why.

Early on the greatest enemy of your growing economy is maintenance. Every factory or lab that you build, even the basic colony tile that exists after colonisation, cost money just being there. You can raise taxes to pay for this maintenance, but early on you want to grow your population by giving them tax breaks so their approval stays green. When populations on your colonies have maxed out, then you get no real benefit from low taxes, so raise them as high as you can go wit

You can join a metaverse empire and then the scores you submit on that character will count towards the empire's score. The downside, as I've already mentioned, is the inability to use most mods while playing metaverse games. If you're just playing DL or DA, you'll probably get a decent challenge from the AI without mods; if you play TotA, not so much in some cases. Anyway to answer your question more directly, metaverse isn't really a multiplayer option.

qrtxian, I checked out the Altarian and Korx tech trees and I see the same thing. I've made a few adjustments and I guess I'll see how things go for them. In particular, once the Altarians have chosen the Good ethical alignment, it does open up a tech which gives them a Soldiering boost, and another one which grants additional Creativity. They just haven't been categorised properly given what we know about the AI's tendency to pick certain techs. There was one other

I would recommend LOTRO instead since they've introduced a way to play without paying subscription. Obviously you will pay for features that you do want (they aren't giving everything away for free) but since a lot of the stuff you buy is account-wide, it basically means that you can play as much as you want or as little as you want without burning lots of cash.

So I finished up my first game with the mod. It was a lot more fun than usual. Everyone was hobbled by the galactic speed restriction event. The Terrans ended up owning about half the galaxy, but their military was only so awesome because of three military resources. Once I discovered all the military resources I sent my fleets to knock them out and build my own starbases on those resources. In the end the Terrans lost because of their smug superiority. Despite hav

To be honest I would rather be able to directly control the funds allocated to Military, Social and Research, with a total funding limit determined by income, and individual funding limits determined by just how many factories and labs you have available. What this means is that you won't have to build an insane number of labs and then run them at 30% efficiency to keep up with research, if the other 70% is going towards ships and buildings. When you are funding Military or So

Migration takes longer the more versions you have to upgrade through. When you have one man working on a project, you have to be realistic about how many hours you can spend on migration and how many hours will be saved by working on a newer platform.

It could be that the mod and it's folder structure are in a subfolder of the specified folder. If you're in the right folder there will be a ModDescription.xml file kicking around. Also make sure you have the right version of the mod, I don't know if there are other versions but if so they won't be backwards-compatible.

Open up My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\Prefs.ini Scroll down to [Game Options] Change EnableMods=0 to EnableMods=1 Look for ModsDir= and enter the path to the mod directory you want to use e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Blah\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\Mods\SWFix_Mod Save the file and you should be sorted.

It's a leaderboard of sorts where players can submit their scores. You need to create a character on the website first (create character in the game basically just loads the Metaverse page here on the site) and then you're good to go. Metaverse games disallow the use of cheats, and you won't be able to use most mods while playing either.
