-In game music: yes, the music is nice, but I'd like to add my own (again, like Civ4) download the media player widget.

you weren't kidding about this update being massive. kudos! "Made star colors read in from StarTypes.xml file instead of being hard-coded." double super-fantastic kudos! does this mean i can change what star colors will have habitables? speaking of which... i wish i still had photoshop. i want to make more zero-PQ planets. i have the artistic skills to do it. just not the technology. BTW, i noticed in the game i started playing after updating on SDC, t
the nobel prize for chemistry in 2001 went to a team of researchers who discovered electro-conductive polymers by appending iodine to a polymer chain. another team extended the work to include light-emitting diodes at the end of these chains. what this means is, once this technology is fully developed, we'll have screens about as thick and very similar to polyester cloth, equally flexible, and cheap to produce. imagine a projector screen without the projector.
i was looking at that, and trying to understand how the heck they're doing that. are they carring servers to support that many monitors, or what? i like how they reference the "X-WALL" hahaha
put 3 widescreens in portrait on that thing. that'd be pretty cool. i'm pretty happy at 1920x1200 on 1 screen. but 3600x1920? that's insane. my movies have always streatched a bit, and they stagger if i have my anti-aliasing above 1. good thing i'm over them. from matrox: "...allows you to add three monitors with a combined resolution of up to 3840 x 1024..." damn. but the way technology moves these days, i'd save my $ and wait a few more months.
moo2niac.... is your image copywritten? did you lift that from Age of Wonders?
re: first strike don't get your knickers in a bunch. the tricky thing about adding something new to this game is making AI that can use it as well. don't get me wrong, i really want an expanded list of components, and i've all ready thought of half a dozen possibilites. but i think it's only fair to realize they're outside the immediate scope of GC2. my thinking on this issue is, they're game developers. if i've thought of it, they probably have too. if i want it, they prob
e-stab, i agree with you wholeheartedly. the only motivation i can see for playing metaverse is peer prestige. i do not mean that statement in a derogotory way; it's just not something that appeals to me, and so i don't bother with metaverse games. however, some people will do whatever they can to believe someone else somewhere is looking at them (or a score) and saying "wow". the fact those guys plainly state they want to fix the system tells me that they at least want to earn their prestige.<b
quit bashing the ai brad is doing all he can to make it as good as it can get without being such a reasource hog that you need to buy a 64bit dual core processor to get good time on the game Well I don't know about the other two posters, but I certainly wasn't bashing. There's a huge difference between offering candid observations and bashing.
Ditto. I made a longer post about this too. The AI barely touches the "yellow" techs... The colors the techs appear actually to mean something. The AI determines its research priorities based on those groupings. Not only do they barely research influence, diplomacy, government, morale and ethics, they don't even do it when they need to defensively. If the AI determines its loosing in terms of influence, it builds 4 influence bases and dozens of embasises and entertainment c
Exactly. I've said it before and I'll say it again, core ships=steaming hunk of poo. i second that. the only core ships i ever use are the colony ships and constructors, and very rarely frighters. the only reason i ever use them when i do is that they're usually the cheapest things on the market.
i'd say i post a fair amount. i'd be here a lot more if it weren't firewalled at work, or if i were a little less lazy and started using IDzap. that said, i'm pretty glad i missed this guy (mostly). i think i remember him, but not really sure. sucks to be one of the 7.4 milliion people in bulgaria. or more precisely, one of the 630 thousand with internet access. judging from that curve, i'd say psycho was the entire TBS game market in bulgaria. on this day, global ca
and yeah, you can do that any time. but when you break an alliance, i'm pretty sure you can never ally with them again. jeez, i thought this was the same post from yesterday... nope, new one. hell, maybe i'll make an updated manual.
heh, yeah i turn spending up to 100% first turn and usually don't need to every turn it down after that. scout space. the AI can't grab things it hasn't discovered yet either. this is why i like the technologists party. the +20 tech boost is significant (4 customization points) and you get a free sensor boost out of the deal. if there are two planets in a system, grab the better one (duh... but there's a good chance you can get the other to rebel later). grab all the resources you can
Recursion is a basic tool in any programmer's mental toolkit. Indeed, I don't think you can call yourself a programmer (certainly, you're not getting hired to do anything more than Visual Basic) if you don't understand recursion. and that's why i never called myself a programmer <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif"
Well, I guess some would advicate that it would be better if the AI could be "trained" from games played only by humans. In short, what are the best strategies or the more efficient uses of starbase/planetary bonuses ... to counter a human player do you, or does anyone else, remember the flavor text for the "Polymorphic Software" tech in Alpha
i should have proof read a bit better, and now i can't edt. can you tell i want to be a writer? what i was trying to get at is that the more closely you pay attention to the way humans play, and account for or even copy that in the AI, the better the AI gets. the bigger gap comes from human ability to anticipate future events and see potentials. but humans do it in an abstract and fluid way. at least in a very superficial way, that sums up my experience of the AI. i was speculating on
every critic who posts always starts out with "I've been a programmer for 20 years.." and then launches in to how easy such and such would be to code. i usually stick to the "i'm not a programmer and have no idea how difficult this would be" method of describing what i'd like. and yea, i still get the occasional planet that's got WAY
yep, just below the espionage slider
One of the most appealing things about the TBS genre to me is that I can walk away from my game. I really do not enjoy walking away from a multi player game. I played my fair share of starcraft on battle.net. But a game of starcraft rarely lasted more than 2 hours, and even that was rare. a game of GalCiv that I really want to draw out can last me a week. I doubt I'd ever play GC2 multi. I might test the waters for a hot-seat game if I found a friend in real life
Even then, a race with offensive racial bonuses will still beat them, so the issue of defense vs offense clearly falls in favor of offense due to the costs involved in making defensive ships. You're right, it falls in favor of offense, but i don't think impossibly so. at the same time, I think your comment below is untrue: <TA
Defensive fleets can't take as much advantage of a first strike, and even with the first strike advantage they usually lose they scrapped first strike in 1.1 my bad i'm dyslexic Do yo
It rolls the sum total, so instead of a curve you have an equal probability of all possible results. okay, well i've gotten into tweaking the game myself from time to time, as you can see above. would you happen to know how i might be able to change the way combat rolls are calculated myself?
switching from devil's advocate to peace maker: let's remember there are a lot of styles of play, and a lot of ways of enjoying gameplay. the real goal should be making sure people who enjoy metaverse games and also prefer defenses aren't disfavored in the socring system. along those lines, i wonder if it'd be possible and desireable to develop a method of certifying mods for metaverse play, especially in light of the next planned update...
