if i'm a troll, at least i'm not an insecure, ignorant hypocrite. it's easy to say 'how hard is it to pick male or female' when you never have to question your place in the world. it's easy to attack people trying to stand up for themselves when they might remove some of your centricism in the world. frankly, i could care less about political correctness in general. i've got a plenty colorful vocabulary when it comes to describing homophobes. but while you might be sitting

it's also super useful for developing starbases. no more available comps on this starbase? okay, all the planets with rally points set to "south 3" now go to "south 4". all ships on their way to "south 3" now go to "south 4". it takes a turn for the new orders to take effect (your ships lose a turn of movement if you don't move them manually), but it's so much easier when you're developing a military starbase network. it took me a while to understand how it works, though.

because some people aren't biologically male or female. that was half my point. the other half of my point is political. saying things like "you're not enough of the population" or "you're problems aren't that important" is just as oppresive as hate speech. i mean, if you want to go by numbers, then the poll is pretty useless to begin with. i can tell you right now less than 10% of the respondents will select "female". so if we're talking about vast majorities, the poll is

There are only two possible genders, psychological problems aside. actually there are at least 5 biological sexes, and no limit to psychological genders. XX and XY are the most common. however XXY, XYY and X0 also occur. while it may be literally and scientifically appropriate to describe such persons as abnormal, it is socially and politically

i've been beta testing 1.2. well, beta testing is a loose term. i make a bug report here and there, but more than anything i'm just too impatient to wait for releases (yet, patient enough to deal with occassional crashes). with modding being the big theme of 1.2, i've been getting into it. there are many changes i'd like to try out and get a feel for: higher government forms dependant on ethics, more things to separate the different aligntment, etc etc. i was looking around the planet

my bottom line is this. if you feel you didn't get your money's worth in buying this game, then it sucks to be you. caveat emptor: buyer beware. if you feel they haven't made a quality product, then i think you should release a better game before you open your big pie-hole. it's easy to sit in judgement of others. it's much more difficult to show them they can do better, because first you have to do better. have you done better? stardock not only produced a very

bump. You think a software company actually gives a rats ass what you think? They are concerned with the bottom line pal. Wiseup! It's about sales, nothing more than sales. Companies don't go into business to please the masses, they do it to make money. You actually think Stardock makes a good product? Can you not read these forums? Are you that naive or ignorant to

i thought military base bonuses didn't stack, only econ and influence. are you talking about military bases or mining bases on military resources? to my knowledge, the only limit on your military bonus due to mining those resources is related to the number of them on the map. and military support SBs, even if they do stack, don't provide a % bonus, only a flat numerical bonus. i'm confused.

you're right, the customization points don't work the way they're suppposed to for the human player (edit: they don't work the way one might they would for a human player. for all i know it's intentional). i'm not sure, but i think they might be there to balance the AI. the files you want are raceconfig.xml and techtree.xml. the originals are in GalCiv2/data/English (or whatever language youi're playing). copy them into galciv2/mods/data and edit them to your heart's content! <br

it's also possible they took over someone else's hyperion shrinkers (though lately the AI isn't building them as often, it seems to me).

It's a term of affection for the male genitalia. i'd always heard it's properly speaking a whale's thingy. but apperantly not. per etymonline.com: "dork: 'stupid person,' 1967, originally U.S. student slang, probably from earlier meaning "penis" (1964), itself probably an alteration of dick ." no connotation of affe

rename the starting gov "fronteir" stratocracy is 'rule by the military'. cosmarchy is 'rule of the entire universe'. maybe consider throwing in 'xeno fascism'. plutocracy is rule by the wealthy. the prefix "eco" actually comes from the word "home", i'd recommend "agora" meaning 'market'. agorocracy would mean rule by market forces. kleptocracy would be government by theives.

It looks a heck of a lot better than the missles, and does not take nearly as much time getting to its target. actually, i prefer watching the battles play out more dramatically by using missiles and drivers. in some of the more cinematic angles (and with speed on 2x), i love watching my swearms of bullets and missiles reach their targets, and

Speed matters a lot, yes. But +1 speed doesn't matter much when your ships have 10-20 speed anyway. the grav accelerators are available from a fairly cheap tech (even if the AI never grabs it early) and can be traded for other items. i'm fine with a +1 boost. i'd much rather see the hyperion ship yard be an upgrade to the starport,

you can also just look at the "stats" section to see your offense and defense bonuses. then add up the total of what your offenses and defenses should be, and compare it to what they actually are on the map. unless both are pretty low, the ship builder should show much lower values for your ship.

Sounds like you've encountered the newly reincarnated super-negative treasury bug that some others have reported. It was fixed a good long while ago, but it seems some change in 1.2 has brought it back. heh maybe the AI is better than we give it credit for <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmid

more than one ability bonus should be possible, since there are techs like "Star Federation" that give both influence and diplomacy bonuses. yes you can rewrite techtree.xml. if you want to add a bonus you don't see an example of, use the ability names in raceconfig.xml what bugs me is that the ability bonuses in the political party

he's exactly right. if you want to experiment, write a race you like playing a 25% custom bonus and watch what happens (if you want to try to keep something like that balanced i also recommend reducing home system PQs to 8 and 4 or 3 even and nerf starting techs). like many of the bonuses, it has a much more significant impact on very large, lush galaxies.

was using a patch (gave myself some crutch boosts... training wheels for a higher difficulty level as well as KHSM, but i've been copying my ship designs into the mod folder so it's not the ship upgrade bug i'm talking about. i researched space marines in a single turn. next turn my treasury was so far in the red it would have taken me years to dig out, but my economy had been doing great. i saved the game a

My only problem now is that I'm trapped in the bottom corner and the closest star system beyond the ten that surround me is 6 sectors away. Talk about a lopsided map! get some cash together, and start building eco bases on your trade lines. they'll extend your range and boost your trade income.

yep. those tiles normally give me enough of an edge to win just about any game. but you didn't play your cards right. i usually have only 1 or 2 heavy production planets. they allow me to crank out military vessels like there's no tomorrow. the rest of my planets are usually all research and economy. 1 farm, 1 morale, and 1 bank for every 3 research centers or so. any planet between about 8-12 or smaller ones with mineral bonuses, they also gets a starport and 2-4 factories, but tho
