if you've got these bugs, you're probably either playing a very old version or the 1.2 beta. they've been reported, acknolwedged, and should be fixed for the final release tomorrow. the treasury crash is an old bug that somehow crept back in to 1.2b. it hit me as well a couple games ago. the upgrade bugs are also being addressed (two of them, both the non-deduction from your treasury, and the bug where upgrading the entire class costed more than doing them individually).<br

If you capture an enemy world with a trade good, and disband the colony, the enemy cannot capture it back. You are still able to use and trade it as if it was still in your possession. =D does this also apply to wonders? that's kind of cheap/ exploitable: build all the unique structures, abandon the colonies, and re-colonize them to make use o
think of trade goods more like an auxilary kind of technology (the bonus) with a copyright on it (the planetary structure). once you have the technology, you won't lose it no matter who controls the copyrights. but unless you gain control of the copyright (planet its on), you cannot control how it's distributed to other empires. i wish there were a way to tell what trade goods a particular race had. not just which ones theyve built, but if theyve traded for any of the others or not.
sweet! i've been wondering about that! good to know, too. i've always thought neg values should be in the main game. ugh, so much to mod, so little time
don't forget the oorai battleships from the season finale Unforntuantly I have no clue how to design my own ships other than in the game it's a huge pain in the butt if you don't know every comp by heart. the best way to design ships, IMO, is
see Cari's brief guide to modding, the section on modding data Link it's a shame she doesn't explain exactly what negative values do... maybe they're treated as 0, except in terms of building them back up? (as in, if you have a -10 econ bonus, but then get a +15 econ bonus by researching the econ tree, your net bonus is only +5).
will someone please give me some idea WHAT a GalCiv battle entails. Ok, 50-100 combats in one turn? What exactly is occuring in these "combats"? Typically, how many ships are in a SINGLE combat? I mean are you talking 50-100 combats (battles?) with, say, 50 ships in each combat?????? In other words, for example, 50 "combats with 50 ships each---that's 2500!!! ships. </
Don't you people see how many combats happen in a turn? have you been playing 1.2b? few combats go by that way in the newer battle system, at least for me since defense has been a more important factor. yes, many combats happen in a turn. but i think part of the point is to move away from that. i did vote for tactical combat, but it
i believe destabilization was an option in their original betas. it was removed (presumable for balance), but you can still find it referenced in the (now almost useless) manual. Frogboy has said the expansion will include an overhaul for espionage. it's coming, but not til winter.
i like the physical dimensions in gigantic galaxies. i like how important range and speed become. but when you fill them up with everything on abundant, yes it does cause a major slowdown. i too would like more setup options, such as more rigidly defined cluster patterns, or even a spiral galaxy would be fun. i remember reading that they're trying to slim down the memory reqs in order to support even bigger galaxies, so i'd say your request will probably be fulfilled at som
personally, i wouldn't want planets to be easily destoroyed unless they could also be easily created (a la Space Empires 4). it's bad enough when you're invaded with a PQ-dropping tactic.
it sounds like what you want to do is make a tech that boosts all your beam offenses by +1, regardless of what the ship's offense is before that? i don't think it's currently possible.
Good should have a more tangible advantage to pursuit of an influence victory good has a clear advantage to pursing an alliance victory. but i agree with you that *if* aligntment is supposed to make certain victory options easier, then influence should go to good. but i don't think it's the case. mind control center (if it worked) is a major he
Being good is its own reward my sentiments exactly and same is true of being evil i too have rewritten some of the diffs between good/neutral/evil, and have a few more on the horizon. good: new mil. starbase modules to boost de
well, regardless of what OS you use, the only other things you can do is disable idle backround programs (which is much easier to do with XP), use minimal jewelry on your ships, and play smaller maps. i rejected XP for the longest time. then i got over it. personally i woudln't recommend waiting for Vista though unless you were also planning to drop major cash with an upgrade or new PC. i don't s
i'd been considering modding to expand the ethics system myself, though i also like the way you've really revamped the whole system. what i was thinking was more have an extra government available based on alignment, but i was more interested in overhauling the ethics system rather than eclipsing it. as it is, interstellar governments seems annoying to me. what i'd thought of doing is have the only govt option available at first is 'frontier', essentially the idea that interstellar tr
Oh please can we do without the PC crap? By the way, I want to be called a "European American". **shudders** Go try to apply for a job. A real job. See if there is "other" under the "sex" selection. There are and should be only two choices. Also, did ANYONE even think for a MINUTE that the OP may have been joking? There's always some "I went to school
you're right about those theories, lucky. postcolonial theory is excplictly purveyed by oppressed people who have no rights. i never said social science is apart from political movement, either. marxism is a perfect example. what i'm implying is that science attempts to appear as if its statements and discourse is somehow apart from the rest of human life, produced in a vacuum, and has no implication. okay, that only a tiny percentage of humans aren't XX or XY. that is a statistical fact. to say
my education is in sociology. that a big part of where my 'political correctness police' behavior comes from, since it requires you study all sorts of people. i could care less what you think about how other people live. but whether you like it or not, consumer-driven businesses typically hold themselves to certain standards of political correctness because all things being equal its typically more profitable not to risk offended or alienating any potential customer. it's true that pe
hi goerge, i was responding to your original post in this thread. some of your subsequent posts become more civil, however your language and tone in your original bump to this thread and some of the other responses is extremely agressive and insulting. i called you a troll for that specific behavior, and was sarcastic in my subsequent response for the same reason, but i wouldn't have called you a troll had i simply disagreed with a civilly argued opinion. i just happen to think you're
the socio-political argument was a counter-point from the beginning. check the opening. if the point of the poll is to determine if there are any women playing the game, i can accept that. the point of the poll is not exactly stated clearly in the poll, neither was anything i saw mentioned about why they put that poll up. bringing in all the theoretical politics, okay, a bit trollish. i'm sorry. i didn't think i was providing such an inundation of information when i wrote t
Steven Shapin reviewing the sociology of scientific knowledge, if you think you're up for it: Link he was a great professor. i was a sad when he went to Havard. longer article and pretty off-topic. the major point of it is in showing that even scientific knowledge is still socially produced, and at best less-subjective or multi-subjec
I make no value judgments here; other then the obvious: Each and every human life deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Spreading falsehoods is no way to achieve that. while i appricate your diplomacy greatly, it isn't a statistical issue i'm concerned about. i appriciate the article you quoted; i had similar, low statistics quoted f
