Hi folks! As stated in the title, I've been experiencing frequent desktop crashes while playing Twilight of the Arnor. As much as I enjoy playing the fully-realized game, I figure I should contact you with my debur.err information. I apologize if this is not the correct venue or mode of submission! Here's the debug info -- any insight you could provide would be great! Thanks! Debug Message: Version v1.96 Twilight of the Arnor last updated

Hi everyone -- I've been suffering from the same problem with fleet movement (or rather, complete lack thereof.) I don't know if it will help, but I've noticed that when I disband a stationary fleet, the ships appear to have many times more than their movement points, almost as though the individual ships' movement speeds were being added together. (e.g. -- two ships with 2pc/turn speed groups to 2/0, or no movement. However, both show 4/2 when taken out of the fleet.) Also, there se

Once again, the good humans at Stardock have amazed me with their diligence and integrity. I wish to echo the sentiments previously expressed and marvel at how much love and devotion has gone into this product. Truly, you are all exemplars of dedication to elegant design. I can think of no other company in the entertainment software industry that has shown such loyalty to its product, and to its fans. Bravo, all of you. If I lived anywhere near Michigan, I'd offer to take y

Good strategy, Itzok! Thanks for the suggestion, although I was left feeling rather dense for not thinking of it. Regardless, my point stands -- we shouldn't *have* to do things like that. Also, I thought of another suggestion. 8.) Hull Designs for the Arceans -- They're the only original GalCiv race that don't have their own hull styles. Why is this? Surely the "big six" should all have their own designs, and we've already got five of 'em down. Also, BoogieB

I try to pile on the appropriate defense for my enemies' weapons onto every design I create. I fit as much shielding/armor/ECM as I can and still allow for decent armament, one superior engine, one sensor, and one life support (all my finest.) That way the likelihood of them surviving and gaining experience is much greater. In my last game, my five Nautilus-class beam frigates (medium) had 40 HP apiece (more than a large hull!) Other than that, I try to make my designs look like wh

That's kind of what I was trying to say, albeit in a roundabout way. Yes, some way to tailor or select the form of target prioritization. On the subject of "nickel & dime" invasion tactics, I just had a scenario where the fleet escorting my troop ship ran out of movement points while attempting to clear away the defending ships. Only *one* remained, but I couldn't hope to clear it until next turn. Unfortunately, the reinforcements arrived and tanked my attacking fleet. Now, that

Apologies for the double post, but my wife actually had two more suggestions! 6.) Make the Ship Component Rotation Controls Larger -- speaks for itself. I like 5-degee incriments, but sometimes it's just hard to see. 7.) Allow for Movement/Removal of Ship Component Stacks -- I agree with this. Having to remove all the elaborate work from a component just to move it is a pain, and it follows that if you want to delete a component that has other stuff on it, you're going to

Before I get started, I'd like to congratulate the Stardock team on revivifying a slipping genre in gaming! I was absolutely right not to get GalCiv II until *after* I finished my master's thesis - it's doing a fantastic job of eating my life! So, if you haven't done so already, please give yourselves a hand, because I know I have applauded three times already. Perhaps the best thing about this game, though, is the fact that it *still* has so much potential for improvement and fine-

Hmm... so the problem now becomes the possible connotation of gender in dialogue. Though there have been many historic instances of noblewomen being reffered to as "Lord," it has evolved into a typically male appellation. So perhaps the only equitable solution would be to dispense with certain honorifics altogether. "Your excellency," "Most exalted one," and even the good-old utilitarian "You snivelling maggot" would make excellent substitutions in script. And I can't think of an instance wh

Well, I think it's safe to say that our Thalan friends might have access to a *limited* collective consciousness rather than a true "hive mind." Perhaps they can share experiences via direct contact a la Heinlein's "Puppet Masters." Or maybe it's more like StarCraft's Zerg, where each planet in the "Hive" is run by its own "queen" with some form of independent identity (that would explain elections and morale issues.) Honestly, the only true "hive mind" I've seen that came close to

Wow... I go away for a week or two, and look what gets thrown into the mix. Yes, it is true that the majority of games today seem to be catering to the archetypal 14-30 year old heterosexual male. Yes, the depiction of females in most games is either woefully absent, or flagrantly insulting. (The same can be said for male characters as well, but I don't want to digress even more. Suffice to say there are many shades between the archetypal models we're normally presented.) And yes,

Heheh.... looks like my horde tactics might still hold water... The pirhana shoal still eats the bull shark in the great Amazon River basin of space.

Agh! Defenestration!!! But have no fear, for Pumaman will land on his feet like a cat! (and maybe fly around with his hinder high in the air.) Sorry about the inane post, but really, how often do you get to use the word "defenestrate" in a semblance of context?

True, Lowa11, the Avatars were far superior to the Battleships in the first game, but keep in mind that ship *size* had little function in the first game. There were simply *classes* of ships, and pretty much everything from Battleship on fell under the "Battleship Cutscene" classification, as I called it, which simply marked the evolution of more capable combat craft. It was implied that every ship design following the Battleship was simply a bigger, meaner class of capital ship (with the not

Excellent suggestion! I wholeheartedly endorse the idea, and am gladdened by your response, CariElf. (the same look / different paint job idea also has a nostalgic, MOO2 feeling to it.) Also, in respect to the identification of traded ships, it could be handled in three ways that I can think of at this moment: a.) an automatic advisor pop-up, as Beta Testa suggests, b.) overall observation of ship design trends (this is assuming that a.) you've seen the ship designs

From what I've heard on these forums, Kobracan, the minor races will still be present. In fact, it sounds like the development team *might* be planning a few expansions to diplomatic options with said minor races, thus allowing more options of dealing with them rather than trade, bullying, or outright conquest. Granted, I'm not certain, but it's nice to think about! Also, I was fond of the "racial enmity" present in MOO3, and c

Not to rankle anyone further, but honestly how often are we actually going to be *looking* at our improvements during the average game? After all, this isn't like your standard RTS where your buildings are sitting on the sunny meadow for all to see -- you actually have to pull up a star system, then a planet, and then the corresponding tile before you'll even get a glimpse (so I'm led to believe, anyway) outside of the initial build que. And just think how *many* of these things you'll be buil

I'm inclined to agree with these ideas -- I think they would go a long way toward developing the AI not only as an effective opponent, but also as a distinct personality. One other factor that I wouldn't mind seeing implemented in regards to diplomatic relations would be the history of the races. For example, I wouldn't expect the Torians to EVER like the Drengin, and I'd expect tension to run high between the Korx and Altarians. Another example could play out between the Yor and Iconians --

Thanks for the explanation, FrogBoy! Nice to have the logistics system explained so clearly. One aside, however. If logistically speaking a 25-tiny-ship fleet is identical to a 10-large-ship fleet (both 50 logistics points) will the large ships simply whomp the tiny ones in each battle, or will the swarm stand a chance? I ask this in full knowledge that the outcome of said pitched battle would be heavily influenced by what techs have been researched, but for the sake of argument let's assume
