My 2 cents [e digicons][/e] . I've pretty much tried all of them over the years, between my own pc's (main pc, and a "media center" hooked to the living room tv), doing some IT work at my job, and helping out friends. First, you get what you pay for. Rarely will a free version protect you as much as a paid for one. Though I have found Avast to be my favorite in that area. Paid for, thats like asking some to choose between a Ford or a Chevy. I'm not going to go name by

Whenever I try and play a video in fullscreen with Nero7 (Nero Showtime), or my TV tuner card, I end up with sound, yet no picture (black screen). In windowed mode, no problems. If I unload WB5, they play fine. Took me a bit to figure out WB was the problem, but I've tried back and forth, unloading/enabling WB, same result every time (no fullscreen with WB enabled). Have also tried several skins, with the same affect, so it's not a skin specific issue. Went to the "per application" se

All righty, got it sorted (I hope). Thanks for the help stone. After I got windows to boot normally, I uninstalled DX, cleaned out the registry, then reinstalled. Seems to be working now. Only thing was, after that WB stopped working correctly. If I loaded a skin, it just distorted the size of my bar, but wouldn't skin anything. Did a reinstall on that as well, and now things are working ok, at least they were yesterday. I'll find out when I get off work, lol. Didn't seem to be Norton, I guess N

Thank you for the quick reply Stone, but no, I disabled system restore. I don't use it for several reasons. One being many virus/trojans can hide there, and if I get hit bad enough, it's a pain in the ###, but since I pay my bills, do banking, and shop online, if it comes to that I would feel safer doing a clean install. Plus, after a restore, it leaves clutter behind. Also, I'm a performance freak... ODT is the only "unnecessary" thing I've tried running. Last, I like to know what causes a prob

Downloaded Object Desktop last night. Just trying it for the first time today. I loaded a wb theme, then a cursor theme (bought cursorxp pro also), then decided to try desktopx. I downloaded a theme from this sight, sorry I can't remember which one, then my pc froze on loading theme. I did a hard shutdown and powered back up. Now, every time I try and boot up, my pc gets stuck while booting, reloads to the dos type screen "error booting blah blah, could be caused by software or hardware changes,

lol, yes, I don't care for the norton nazi sometimes myself. But I will give it this though, it has caught a lot of stuff before it reached my pc. Have had friends infected by the same stuff that norton stopped on my pc (they where using other AV's). Yet, with all it's problems, I might switch after this subscription runs out. Norton wasnt affecting activex though, that damage was cause by one of the dx objects. I use firefox anyway, so activex gets li

Exact same problem here. Just created a post on it, lol, before finding this. I like the fact that norton stops some scipts, as it has saved me from an infection before. I am not about to disable it just to run a widget. Sadly I didnt read this first. I tried downloading the script exe from microsoft, but I couldnt because explorer kept freezing and microsoft wouldnt let me use firefox to download it (guess I was doing something wrong). I ended up reformating my pc. So has anyone figured o

OK. I got windowblinds a while back and love it. So I figured I'd give DesktopX a try. Everything worked great for a while, till I tried to run a scan with Norton. It wouldnt scan. So I try downloading a program from Norton to fix the problem and explorer freezes. So I do a little more searching, and discover it only freezes when I try downloading an activex control. Next, go to Microsofts site and discover a certain scripting exe must be damaged on my pc. Microsoft tells you just to download th
