Not to mention a good desktop PC is around 500-700 no, that would be a relatively powerful one. wuuaaa.. it is? and im thinking of buying one at the time when sins is released between 3000$-3500$ = 17.000-20.000 danish kroners. And thats only for the PC, no screen, mouse or keyboard. But ofcourse thats calculated by the prices i see today, might be a bit cheaper <

It's one of the aspects I don't like in glacis 2. You can't really hurt the other player’s economy by destroying ships, because he'll always be able to produce more. well how do you expect to win by attrition? thats a terrible strategy. when playing a game, take Sun Tzu's warnings in reverse. like so 4. attack my people if at all 3. attack my cities not at all 2. attack my supplies if you must but 1. never attack m
It will probably run fine in Vista, preformance loss is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. At least for me it is. Most games are running at the same preformance level as winXP. By the time Sins is released I expect Vista preformance equal/superior to XP. I'm still running a dual boot system but I havn't starded Xp in 2 weeks. I'm probably going to unistall xp within 2 months.
I really like the idea of finite resources it ensures that you actually have to plan ahead and make sure that your fleets survive instead of just trading ships for ships until somebody's economy calls it quits. I would like technology to make a difference in resource gathering. I.e. 'That planet is full of resource we desperately need to manufacture pine scented bridge fresheners, but sadly it's surface temperature is 8000 deg C. But thanks to a breakthrough in full body oven mitts
Random Sci-fi babble mode On: It's because of fluctuations in the quantum inversion matrix, Duh!. What do they teach you kinds in school these days? Random Sci-fi babble mode off: But seriously there is a large amount of energy being directed at the shields. (kinetic, chemical, heat), I’m pretty confident that a advanced space based society is capable of using at least a part of this energy for it's own advantage. The question is what happens if the shiel
Sorry guys the final betas removed ALL the debug code and had some optimizations in it - this was the code used for the gold master AND the demo. SupCom handles on the lowest settings fairly descent on anything not a dual core - note if you don't have a dual core or better SupCom just won't run that well. I went to my current system just to be able to play the SupCom beta at the highest settings. It's all about your CPU not your GPU... QuadCore time is here, t
Yeah TA on a pentium 90 was pure hell. I can't really remeber if I ran the game in 640*480 or 320*200. I rember thinking 640*480 was really high tech stuff with a gigantic wow factor. I've played the game again in window on my current screen and it's a 4" rectangle now. Leaving the other 26" empty. I've tested the Supreme Commander Demo in winxp and it's slightly faster than Vista. Still get a slow
Good point, turn bases Ai should indeed be a lot easier than real-time. I also think supcom AI is pretty decent, the ai is capable of using all it's units to maximize effect. I just fought off a combined land, air and sea attack. I just realized, i've played the supcom beta in winxp and the supcomdemo in Vista. Maybe that's the reason I havn't seen much preformance gain.
hmm, then something must be wrong on my side. Since i got a pentium 4 3.6ghz, asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard, 3gb pc3200, and a geforce 7800gs+ agp. Got all the latest driver for everything. And it runs like crap, well i can go as high as 300units and then the game starts slowing down to 8fps and staying there for the most part. EVEN if i lower the settings. Well in the bigging of the game, for the first 10-20min, i got a fps about 45+- all the time.<
Who already bought vista? and why in the blue hell would a computer gamer ever buy a brand new operating system? You have just lost the ability to play pretty much every game you own... Vista doesn't even work with all of microsofts products yet!!! Microsoft Visual Studio go a patch just a few days ago, and I woudn't say that it works well now... I would be surprised if the beta for this game worked on vista... Becaus
Good question actually, at first glance I would say the extra CPU power consumed won’t have a measurable effect on your CPU life. I have used numerous different CPU’s over the past 18 years and I have never had one fail outside user induced failure (extreme overclocking). Neither have any of my friends with an equal amount of computer experience. Some CPU’s I’ve had running almost nonstop for over 6 years. Student housing server. Has anybody in this forum ever have a CPU fai
1. Sins (But i'm thinking sins is going to be a 2008 game. Call me pessimistic if you like.) 2. Galciv 2 DA 3. Supreme commander, the beta is tons of fun. 4. Ufo afterlight (Seems to be shaping up pretty well) 5. Ufo-extraterresials (I'm just a sucker for x-com type games) 6. Silent hunter 4. 7. Plus tonnes more 2007 seems to be a good year for pc gaming. A lot of people in this thread are posting ideas on making small craft more competitive in the latter stages of this game. Don't small fighters have enough advantages already? They're cheaper, faster to produce and have smaller weapons. Adding another bonus seems a bit excessive. As soon as your empire has reached the resource potential to field a large number of strong big ships small ones become obsolete, seems logical to me. I generally look at ship size as a measure for

We play on Dell 24inch widescreens at 1920x1200 so you can be sure it works great on widescreens Are you planning to support resolutions beyond 1920x1200? 2560*1600 for those lucky bastards who own a 30" screen or people who are using multiple monitors?
A new budget range of 8X00 series cards is going to be released somwhere in march april. They are somewhat cheapish. Ranging from 99 (8300) to 299 (8600). Ati should release their R600 series of cards at the same time so there should be some price drops. Don't expect to pick up a 8800 cheaply before than because it will remain the fastes single non-overclocked card on the market. But if you do get the money, the 8800GTX is an amazing card. I've never seen such a preformance increase i
Ditto on lordkosc's question. I'm also wondering what the maximum supported resolution will be, and what other graphical bells and whistles will be available. It's one of the features I really, really like from galciv2. You change one setting and everything will switch to the correct resoultion including, ui and text. Galciv 2 at 2560*1600 is absolute bliss.
Yarlen, Am I interpreting this right? You will accept paypal preorders when beta 1 is in full swing?
I'm very seriously thinking about preordering the game. I don't have a creditcard (don't want/need one)so i'm thinking about buying some Totalgaming.net points via paypal. But then I have five points left. Does anybody have a suggestion about what other game to get using those five remaining points? Keep in mind that I already own every installment of galciv 1+2 incl. expansion packs. I'm also wondering why I was able to buy the galciv2 beta using paypal and not the sins of a sola
I have a question for both of you. How often do you look at the ground combat screen? Do you think you would look at the screen more often when you get more advanced graphics? I myself rarely look at ground combat, mostly because the animation caries no useful information. I do look at shipcombat but that's mostly to see how my ships affect the enemy ships. I myself would rather have some snazzy 2d pictures of the end result of ground combat than more different 3d ground combat effects
Also another thing I forgot to ask how large is your pagefile? You indicated the pagefile was more than 2gig. But how much more? It might seem absurd but have you tried increasing the pagefile to 3 or even 4 gig? It’s not that much space and it could solve a lot of problems.
I’ve had a number of different turn button disappearances in the last beta of DA, also in DL and the previous DA beta. What I haven noticed however is that there is a movement icon in the bottom left corner of my screen, way at the end of the map. It’s a destination without an ETA. It almost looks like a ship is trying to move of the edge of the map. Thus far it has only happened mid game in gigantic galaxies. When I generally have a lot of ships flying around and I haven’t had the patience
Hmmm odd, those temps seem fine. I don’t think desktop resolutions will make that big of a difference. I’ve played this game at non desktop resolutions for months. You might try playing this game at the lowest possible settings and see what happens. If it still crashes after 5 to 10 minutes it’s definitely not temp related. I personally don’t use sli but I don’t think that’s the problem. You might try Nhancer or a similar program to see if you can tweak the settings. Also
I’ve had the same problem in a beta 2a game. Huge galaxy, tough ( random intelligence) 8 races. There are three major players in the game, the Korx, the er.. (new guys –insectoids I forgot their name) and me. The altarians, Torians, Thalan, Korath have all surrenderd to either the Korx or the newguys after ten turns of warfare with the one of these races. The weird thing is that they all decide to surrender to the race that is attacking them instead of one of their allies or species with th
Ehm... do you have freezing problems with any other games? The screen corruption right before the crash gives me the idea that you might have a overheating problem. Do you have an idea at what temps your graphics card run after a few minutes of full load? Galciv2 is a deceptivly graphics heavy game and it could be that it causes your system to overheat. Have you download the smart exception program from the galciv website. It's a handy little prog that monitors the game an
