due to being unable to fire on the move. You're thinking in terms of WW2. Sitting still is the worst thing you can do in a combat zone. Stationary tanks disappeared with the advent of modern electronics.
Actually I meant they go in circles to be cool, I Was being sarcastic. Tanks move around because they reall CAN dodge enemy shells... Computer targeted lasers/gauss canons CAN! NOT! BE! DODGED! The iraqies might have a guy manually aiming a shell...
The TEC may have the best superweapon, but none of their ships or planetary weapons is the best of their class. The Sova Carrier can come close to matching it's counterparts, the Halcyon and Skirantra, but the strikecraft it carries are inferior to their Vasari/Advent counterparts. I think kol and mezra do quite fine in comparison to the capitals battlecruisers/dreadnoughts of the other two races

I scare them off... unto another planet i own... I chase then and chase them and chase them... And while I do that I can't focus on anything else... The AI can control all his ships at once, I can only control one ship at once... Sure they are expensive, but they are each individually controlled. When I get in there they all do a retreat command, they all SUCCESSFULLY retreat because they fly so fast. and often times, they retreat to random surrounding systems... And 3 of them on a lightly defen
As nice as the culture shift is, it can't quite compare. By simply novalith sniping planets and astroids in the enemy territory you are costing them rediculous amounts of money. The loss of one planet to one or two 'lith shots makes you lose all tax from that planet, requires recolonizing, requires 2-3 population upgrades to simply break even and avoid negative tax. Due to population growth that planet will not be generating full income again for a full ten

I have never been "hit" by 2 or 3 seige frigates... its when 15 of them jump in. They jump in and proceed to bombard a planet to dust. If I manage to get my fleet in on time (will ONLY happen if they are 1 jump away) they just fly out to the edge of the system and jump out.. my ships can't catch them so often I don't kill a single one. If I have 3 fighter and 3 bombers squads and some turrets around the planet (out of range for them) then they can still jump out without a single one

i love it how there is such variety... each race has significant plusses and minuses, they are balanced as a WHOLE... rather then have "balanced units" (read: Identical with different grahics). You need to research so many prerequisite techs for the advant super weapon I never bothered with it... I OFTEN rush to build 8 research labs early on (read 3-4 planets/astroids) to get the ascendency... Ascendancy 2 (for 3000 credits with no prereqs) gives you automatic capital upgrading up to l

I would say supply based on population would be ideal (maybe planets)... add my vote to this initiative. Technology COULD modify supple (+20% to the supply garnered from planets, etc). Siege frigates would come and bomb my planet, my fleet comes in... my fleets starts wailing at them... a few of them die, the planet die, the rest escape... I like them to do just as much damage if not MORE to planets... but be weak and easy to kill. So you better PROTECT those weak bombers with a co

They should run around in circles like headless chickens, serving no purpose whatsoever (since they can't dodge) just to "look cool"... [/sarcasm] (PS. it does NOT look cool...) Sword of the stars has a huge problem with ships moving around... they consistently fly above or below where they should and expose their weak side while moving their major weapons out of firing arc... When micromanaged properly, sword of the stars ships can be forced to stand still and face the ene

Sure the AI sent 20 seige frigates and they wiped out my planet... then my 4 capital ships which I purchased upgraded to level 3 (and have since combat upgraded to 4 and and 5) are taking on his 20 seige frigates, 1xlevel 2 and 1xlevel 1 capital ships, and a few frigates... After that I just took my time bombarding his home planet to dust (real game I just played, 10 planets)... I make sure to have visibility on every single planet, either through scouts or through colonization

someone gave you a pirated game as a valentine gift? So you are a girl uber gamer who is a hardcore opponent of piracy and you want to report the guy who was enough of a nerd to give you a video game... and a pirated one at that (so you know it cost him nothing)... actually you don't. From your post you assume he bought it then made you a copy. That is hillarious. He downloaded it for free and gave you a copy. either throw it in the trash. Or play it now and make a note to buy it as

how is it trolling? the guy is making a joke how the game / company / publisher are so good that even uber pirates BUY them... This is someone saying "I buy this even though I pirate everything else"... I don't see how its trolling or bad. In fact its basically users complimenting stardock's policy about DRM.

Just to chip in about realism. The gravity well is of a planet, not a star. That is much MUCH less then a single light second. a light second (299.8 million meters) is similar to the distance from the center of the earth to the center of the moon (384 million meters)... However the distances in the game are much smaller. Most weapons only fire at 6000 (some 5000, some 7000). It doesn't specify what, but presumably km (based on the size of the sphere) then that means it will
however much some companies wish it were.
You my friend, appear to be unfamiliar with the digital millenium copyright act. Signed by bill clinton into law in 1998 It specifices insanely high penalties (5 years in prison and 500,000$ for first case of commercial piracy, double that for ever subsequent offense). It also defines any attempt to circumvent copy protection an act of piracy, even when said copy protection impedes "fair rights" usage (constitutionally p

Only discourage theft, unauthorized copying is a case where publishes steal from their consumers by pretending their product is both physical and intellectual property at the same time and demand the consumer take the penalties of both and the benefits of neither. Unauthorized copying (you bought the game already) should be made legal. Theft is bad.

Those are technically named pirates sometimes... But they are lone ships.. No pirates means no pirate FACTION... a pirate faction has a "pirate base" planet with massive defenses. it produces a massive armada every 15 minutes to attack the player with the highest bounty (you can place bounty on other players and vice versa). And collect said bounty by killing structures and ship of said player. If nobody has a bounty they will randomly attack (but the AI will usually place a bounty
Wow, you convinced me. Denying people's arguments but not offering up any counter-explanations is the best way to debate effectively. In order to have a debate, you have to have two positions. My position was that there was no human rights argument to be made in favor of game piracy. Taltamir spent four paragraphs rambling on about how human rights applied to piracy of knowledge and technology specifically excludi

Piracy isn't stealing physical content but accessing acquiring knowledge without paying the author. Pirating games and entertainment only relates in the terms of the severity of the punishments for the type of act. When you go to the store and steal a CD you are taking something that cost money to produce and transport, as well as the information it contains. When you are downloading a copy of that CD you are only denying them potential income (not that you would have necessarily bought it i

the other way around... damage increase for UNFOCUSED firing... in a 20 vs 20 battle if ships are randomly attacking without focusing their fire then each individual ship has time to recharge its shields... While with phasing they take direct hull damage. If everyone focuses on one ship then the shield charging is insignificant and it takes about the same amount of damage either way. The longer the battle lasts, the more effective it is. Thats why escaping enemies are the ultimate effec

My strategy is to keep a few capitals dedicated to fighting pirates, with a few scouts you can see exactly where the pirates are going, and intercept them every time. It costs a lot less to reserach logistics and build 2 capital combat ships (maybe 3 if pirates are high enough threat)... I prefer not to go into a bid war becuase that causes the pirates to become tougher.. As a last resort I found that pirates leave a planet as soon as all orbital items are destroyed... so if an

Throw the antimatter at them :P I hear it can be dangerous :P... But seriously though, I use hangers almost exclusively in defense... and pirates just attacked one of the 6 systems I had with 5 hangers in each... But I didn't notice that on that one specific system I forgot to build fighters... I could have had 15 squads (advent)

actually the AI takes this into account when calculating fly paths. I have seen it take paths that require more jumps, but will take less time overall due to L ship jump locations. The defense turrents are meant more to protect the planet then to shred a passing fleet. Even if the lanes are EXACTLY opposite each other you could just circle around the turrets, turrets have to be in the gravity well and you can fly way outside of it.
