Good point, that. It's like a take-off on the old question, "if a tree falls in the forest" ... But what about a scenario where the AI takes out three civilizations and you just sit there and offer them an alliance when they're done? It doesn't seem right. Here they've done all that work ridding the universe of the Axis of Evil (or Good) and you still wind up with that score for the Metaverse. What does the AI get? They really need to unionize.

I'd be happy if the AI broke your alliance every now and then. It strikes me that the AI can, by definition, never win a diplo victory unless you let it, so basically I just have to turn that off. It's such a simple concept, that the AI can't win diplo, but I never really thought about it before.

Fundamentalists are the event that affects only evil civs. And has anyone ever had Jagged Knife and Fundamentalists in the same game? I just did :D I had to laugh out loud when it happened, it was like, "what's next? Plague? Recession? Dread lords?" I found the Fundamentalist planets really, really easy to conquer and they basically won me the game. But the JT had an advantage factor of 5 and getting those back was agony. Agree that the JT event can swing a game if you play it

Haha! Glad it worked out for you. Actually, I've been playing this game for years. Just took a break before the expansion, that's all. My post was less about it being an obstacle to winning (it isn't, and I can always turn diplo victories off) and more about it being a question of balance with the AI. The game is pretty fair as far as scaling up the intelligence of your enemies once you get beyond Challenging (fair enough to whoop my ass on anything beyond Tough so far) but it doesn't

I had this thought just now while I was finishing up my first Twilight of the Arnor game. I was playing my custom race, the Nonsequiturians, on Challenging. Thalan tech tree. Other races were: Korx, Terra, Arcea, Toria, Korath and Krynn on a large map with tech trading off. Terra and Korath stayed weak, and Krynn took out Korx in middle-game. They started dominating on military and influence like they do. Anyway, I chose neutral, and my big tech lead and solid defensive fleet mad

You know, I figured it out eventually. I wasn't aware that the game creates .shipcfg files from your .x file hulls when it saves templates, so my first question turned out to be irrelevant. I got around the two cargo hull limit with a very messy renaming hack that I'll describe if anyone is looking to do similar stuff. Basically it let me have as many of each s99 named hull slot as I wanted, as long as it was as a ship template, not as a hull in the shipyard. The on

I edited this for clarity. First things I should mention are that I need this to work in the Metaverse, and this is Dark Avatar. I've also read the guide posted here: https://forums.galciv2.com/148042 . What I'm trying to do is to take my race, the Nonsequiturians, and give them their own default ships for my games. I have 12 custom ship hulls that I use: 5 cargos, 2 mediums, and one each of a tiny and a small. They're mostly .x files (since I play in

Oh man, I hate abundant. Too many planets! I've been wanting to try suicidal but I'm not ready yet. Especially because I've gotten used to not gearing up with military until everyone starts getting cool to me. I like the early game builder style instead. Still, maybe I'll do one game just to see how hard I get stomped. Sounds like on suicidal, my initial colony rush will fail big-time. Because the AI is so aggressive on grabbing planets. You can't play a builder style with four worlds.

So I've been playing on and off for two years or so, but I just started ramping up the difficulty. I have to consider myself a raw noob at playing higher difficuly, but to my surprise I am winning consistently on Crippling. I just wanted to make a post and see if anyone else is noticing what I think I am about enemy AI with ships and tactics. It seems like it's almost always possible to first hang in with, and then beat, a race that has a MASSIVE military lead on you. As long as yo

Aye, that was the next step. I just thought I'd see if there was any feedback here first, because I really feel like it must be something I'm missing. If I start a game from metaverse, with mods turned off, it should upload... right? There isn't anything with amount of game saves, or any other criteria that affects it?

I'm running the fully updated, registered version of DA with mods turned off. So anyway, I figured I would try metaverse games. I started a new game from the metaverse button, made myself a character, etc. A week later I win the game, and don't get an option to upload the score. It was like a normal game, it just ended... and I had no way to do anything in the metaverse. What did I do? What could be wrong?

Just one other thing... your ships are awesome. I added about 8 of em. The one small issue is that the Lambda Shuttle doesn't show at the start of a Normal game. I can see it in Battle of the Gods, but not Normal. I'm using it as S99_small_1.X by the way. Just dropped it right in GalCiv2/Gfx/Models along with the rest.

Hi all! Hope the title was clear. I've been using Rav's amazing BSG ships. The thing I like is that I don't have to use a mod, all I have to do is drop them in that folder. I guess I'm particularly trying to find medium and large ships. Can I convert ships that are not intended to go in that folder? I don't mind modding XML, as long as someone can tell me how. My main thing would just be that I don't want to have to use Omega or Kyro's. Just an unmodded DA with some extra ship

Kenwebb, I can't seem to get the BSG shippack to show up in my games. Here's exactly what I've done: ------------- 1) Downloaded Omega Mod 2.0 and copied folder Omega-2 to: C:\Games\GalCivII\Dark Avatar\Mods\Omega-2. 2) Navigated to that folder and ran the batch file 3) Opened up DA, selected Omega Mod as the mod to use, and restarted DA 4) Copied the BSG ships to D:\Documents\My Games\Dark Avatar\Ships 5) Started a new DA "Battle o

Hi all... I'm trying to find out whether there's an .obskin value that will set the distance that popup menus appear from the main bar. Right now, the edge of my popups always overlaps the main bar no matter what I try. Much as I thought I'd figure it out from this article: https://www.stardock.com/products/objectbar/docs/ ... I just haven't been able to. The only stuff in there seems to be for internal group items, not external items(unless I'm missing something). Any

Well, screw it. Maybe I'll post mine. But if it uses tons of icons that I can't remember the sources of, how should I handle that? I don't want to take credit for anyone's work.

Will do, thanks. And I fixed it by noticing that it was autopilot that was doing it. When I clicked on an already autopiloted ship to change course, it crashed. If I left clicked to cancel autopilot first, it didn't.

Hi there. I just wanted to post my crash log in case anyone knew what my issue could be. Have also emailed the log. Large map, and once I got it all uncovered and got in mid-game, the game just started crashing constantly. I've tried disabling some of the video options, different res, no autosave, running in a window. No love. The save I am loading from now crashes basically every turn so since it's my only recent save, I guess I am beat. Obviously it's beta, so no b
