I think they need to insert a default race templates You know, the more I have played, the more I actually wish the core races were unmodifiable. Leave the custom races to.... customise and have 9 distinctly flavoured races. I am even starting to think about creating distinct abilities for

Well one counter to that is that you would rarely reach this 'late game' where this is an issue if you pursue a military path from the begining. That's also working on the assumption that you are playing on a medium or lower map. I dont believe you are reaching military domination on a gigantic map in

Patch 3 is out at the end of the month - that alone speaks volumes. With most games, that would indeed speak volumes (about the quality of the game) as they would all be bug fix patches. The patches for Galciv have all been content additions - yes they dealt with common user problems and f

While I do find the minutiae of trading rather cumbersome, the "what would make this work" button is not my idea of a good solution. This is in games like Civ and I invariably dont want to trade what the other civ wants for my tech so I end up fiddling around anyway. A simple cash/IP balance button would suffice. You put up your tech manually, select the tech or whatever from the AI that you want.... if the trade is green you can click the b

This is a strange factor here. I have seen both ways happen. For the record, I play at Tough. Sometimes the AI sends a stream of solo transports after they have taken the defense from one of your planets. Other times they send in fleets and keep them in the area to protect the incoming transports and have fleets along the route in. The Altarians shocked me while I was playing the Drengin with some truly evil examples of how the AI

It's not a bug. At first, I used the control&n to generate a nice cosy little galaxy for myself with room to expand and close off my borders. I moved up to intelligent, then one day I just went on in and played it as it was. The result was that its a damn sight tougher to play without having set yourself up that cosy little niche at the start..... this incidentally also makes the game a LOT more fun as there is constant military action practically from the moment you first meet the Yo

I have fatigue from reading it all, so my response is going to be short and sweet! UI/game options stuff: More options are always good. You seem to be a keyboard freak, I'm a mouse freak so I dont need most of the things you put in there, but I see the need for those who do. Most of this was good. Espionage: I ag

Again, all other things being equal, why would you not want a well-balanced roster of civs? It boggles my mind that some people seem to actually not want that. But that's just it... I really don't see it as a gross imbalance. It's hardly like selecting the Yor is clicking the I WIN button,

If you get a huge planet like that.... build a good few factories right away - 4 seems like a good number to me and a starport. Then start specialising it towards tech or cash - whichever you need the most. Once it has built all the buildings and relevant capital, then you can choose whether to upgrade those factories into banks/labs or just to leave it as it is - a very productive planet that can also crank out ships.

You know - when it comes to books... you are literally only buying those words.... so if there are lots of errors (FULL OF BUGS! ) I think there is a right to decry the quality of the product. So I agree with you basically.... those books are bad -especially the teaching ones and show a real lack of quality. This, however, is a game that just happen

There are definitely a number of ways to beat this. On Normal, I found that I could just take my initial colony ship and constructors and "head west" - I didnt take an intermediary planet, just b-lined straight for the planet by the Yor. This planet became my Manu Capital. Then I researched up a bit of lasers, planetary invasion, got 2 fleets of small ships and 3 transports and headed for the Drengin - there really is no need to drive right

Gee what the hell is your problem? I am the person playing the game, and I am entitled to my own opinions. I find games with low unit cap extremely irritating, you have a problem with that? And the unit caps are LOW. Perhaps there is no limit to the no. of ships you can build, but factoring in maintenance costs, it seems that the no. of ships you can field is only going to

The very first game I played that was the first UP vote that came up. Of course they always pass, no matter what the human votes for. I don't even think the UP should be able to pass laws regarding system of government. It annoys me that I go and research something, and then UP votes in something worse. They don't always pass no matter what th

I think many of the posters here miss the point, or misunderstand the situation. There are only two statistics, logistics and miniturization, that are inherent to a civ, and can't be customized. The rest are interchangeable and are just dependent on what you want to put your points in. The Yor have both the highest logistics, and

Luck is extremely powerful for 1 point.... too powerful some might say! I'd put it in either Morale (depending on what other bonuses you've got) or Soldiering.... no one seems to rate this highly but my races always have a nice bonus in this area and funnily, I never lose planets! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" bor

Bragging about GC2's sales might be more meaningful if this weren't the traditionally slow months of game sales. Which is probably why StarDock released it at this time. Some people are intent on spoiling the party whatever it takes! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Sad.gif" bor

The simple way around this is to always design a Barebones version of a ship first. Design your ship, put all the jewellery on and no weapons, engines or defenses. This will now appear with the appropriate tech, irrelevent of miniaturisation level.

Ssssshhhh!!! *looks around nervously and sweeps the thread under a rug* Don't say this or someone might..... *shudders*.... balance them!!!! I love Yor - I love playing with them and I love playing against them.... they are powerful but excellent characters and usually one of the few races who can give me a run for my money!

Does placing a econ starbase near the terminus of a trade route bring in more $ than placing it near the origination? Do econ starbases get anything from other race's trade routes or just your own? Are multiple routes to/from the same planets as effective? (i.e. can I build 15 trade routes from my best planet to their best

Next time, I will try a medium map with only five opponents. Maybe that will help. Does the AI become tougher if it gets bigger? So far, I just kinda do whatever I want without much opposition. Also, I think the AI needs to be more aggressive. If I play peacefull, they never attack me. Maybe I need to get up to a more diff

I have now played countless games and have *never* had a planet taken from me except by Dreadlords and 1 from the Yor in the campaigns (after 3 invasions from Dreadlords). Today, I continued a fairly young game where I was playing as the Drengin for the first time..... the Altarians (God bless them) are absolutely kicking my ass! It's such a pleasure! They have stolen a number of planets (I started to use slash and burn tactics, destroying t

Thing is fleets have logistics restrictions, so, those 2 extra ships won't fit into a maxed out logistics fleet, so they are wasted. Whereas a military base will continue to add into that maxed out logistics fleet, thus, providing a much larger and stronger force overall. Those 2 extra ships aren't going to do you much good if/wh
