You need to sandbox a lot, and learn to adapt. The best way to do this is at challenging, where some people are normal and others intelligent. At intelligent, they pull a lot of tricks to keep you on your toes. It isn't impossible to win, it's just a damn pain.

No-one is quite sure yet (except possibly the dev's). However, he has said about specific agents wreaking havoc, counter espionage, and terror stars, as well as a campaign as the Drengin. So, I'm buying it

It isn't unbalanced. You need to work with your teamates to win, and rush the Drengin planet. If you have max soldiering the DL can't conquer you anyway, so they aren't a problem. You think this is bad, wait 'til Apocalypse, where you have to fight them yourself.

Those features would cripple a race. I understand things like the "pot" idea for peace treaties, 50% of yearly income forked out by the one that breaks it, but for vassalge you just wouldn't have a chance to ever return. I prefer the symbolism of going out in flames. Not that I have ever done that. But it warms my heart, that speech that the Terrans give basically saying "We suck, go kill them for us!" But seriously. It's a nice speech.

You *might* survive the first hit from a black hole eruptor. You won't survive the second. That's my point. I've seen ships survive fairly often, because the max damage is very rarely reached with those weapons. As long as the DL haven't fleeted up, they are sitting ducks on round 2. You fire, do dama

Its not that hard of game... Going up against the Dread Lords before you know the game mechanics? Ouch. I got owned on subnormal against the measly Drengin first time I played. Once the economy model is managed, all else falls into place. First comes the knowledge, then comes the

Wait for the expansion, but I don't think dropping spending after maxed out would lower it. 60% of their government are your spies after all, they really are screwed as far as not being seen by you. What I love is getting to "Advanced" in 2 turns.

Mix it up, play a bunch of idiot races who you will extort, and have one intelligent. Preferably Drengin, they work best in such a situation. I recently found that my threshold for ownage is somewhere between 1.1 first beta and 1.1 second beta. It takes a looooooooong time for me to win now, and by year four it's a struggle for survival. Thank God for +50% defence bonus.

Well, cakewalk means the AI becomes more stupid on all sides (allies included) and they can't help you effectively. The Dread Lords are difficulty resistant as they're so damn powerful. Play on sandbox until you're better at the game, the campaign isn't the main game anyway

That's the point. Sitting there hoping for a insurrection? No thanks. I would instantly surrender to whoever is trying to vassal me's worst enemy, as would (probably) many players. If you have worlds left, fight. If it's your last world, last stand. When they try to vassal you, give everything to their enemy in exchange for a declaration of war.

Hey, just so you know, noone can see the damn report unless you bump it. Now, it's too late and will never appear on the "recent posts" bit, only people specifically scanning the forum can see it. Can we see what happened in the last page? you've given us the boot info, and there doesn't appear to be that much out of the ordinary. If it's a forced reset, then it's probably your comp not the game. As is, I can't see any issues that would kill

Dear god that's strange. They aren't calling any information about their current fleets by the look of it, so are spamming freighters. I've never seen this before, in games or thread. Damn thing never ceases to amaze me, this must be one of those AI decisions DoDumbThing() that got implemented. Well, the good news is, with that economy and the systems under your control, you're probably ready to step up to challenging or tough <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Big

Not really. If there's two enormous capital ships packed with weapons and two tiny fighters shooting at me, I'd rather kill the big boys first while I have the power left to do it. Not when they're VERY powerfully armed. You can either smash the dreadnaught anddo nothing, or hit that little bugger of

No. They shouldn't. They start off with a 5% change, that's not overpowered. They get stronger obviously, but why wouldn't they? I can win without a single resource at Intelligent. If you dislike them, turn them down. No nerfing, please.
