If you have a link to where they promised that preorders would come earlier, then please post it, becasue you are the first and only person I have ever heard say sucha thing
per Froggie:
<td clas

Ur ships are really cool and all but... i also think that you guys have WAYYY too much time on your hands to do all that Because spending an hour or two playing with one part of a game is somehow "wasting time", while playing another part isnt? This seems an odd observation to make on a website dedicated
Well, GC2 is in a class by itself, so theres no easy substitute. You could check out Medieval 2 Total war or Europa Universalis 3, both great and worth picking up on their own merits in any event, DA or no. If youre set on the sci fi 4x turn based, theres Sword of the Stars and Space Empires 5, if you cant wait another 2 weeks. Not as good as GC2 (but not completely *terrible*), but maybe serve as a tide-me-over. For something not really exactly like GC2, but quirky and absor
Heh, thanks. Im actually partial to the flying BSG logo, er, Void Raptor. The dragon hit the wall on components (started geting significant lag when placing), long before I was finished with what I wanted to do with it. I wanted to armor plate the body, and put a solid wall of "feathers/scales" on the wings, but it was not to be. I suppose at a certian point I should just model the complex stuff myself and import in into the game, but that ruins the the whole point of lego-building in the
Although speed is much less useful if you do not have very good sensor range. Doing as the above quote suggests could easily bring your ships into range of that other killer fleet you didn't know was there! Yeah, i just assumed everyone builds some sort of sensor ship network. I guess I shouldnt assume that, but its standard playbook for my
Speed has all sorts of Indirect tactical advantages. At least in 1.4, its = to the number of times you can attack per round(even though it shouldnt be), so a single ship with a good speed can move to a planet, and clear out the handfuls of weaker ships in non-fleet battles, and open up the planet for troop invasion in a single round. That means, as long as youre a step or two faster than that last killer fleet that threatening you, you could dart around it, take out its planets homeworlds, co
Continuing with my Game as the Cyberlord Technoimperium. Posted some of the utility ships above, here are some of the sexier designs, with the grand finale at the end. Just to recap from above, the Servitor Droid, the tradeship, and the Colony ship: A few assorted ships: Early game Missle Drone, slow, small, cheap... serves more as an orbital deterrent, and to encourage the AI to keep
#1 Windows Vista comes with included, standardized performance benchmarking. I bet it will be about as accurate as the current "systeme requirements" system we have now too (that is to say, not at all). In any event, yay,...another way for developers to marginalize and not develop for 90 % of the PCs in existence, further driving the pc gaming i
Pretty much anything but Norton and Macaffee.
IM in a similar situation. I find "Crippling" too easy, but when I move to Maso I start getting kicked around really bad. #11 Simple. Theyre cheating like bastards. Keep in mind that every level over "tough" the AI starts to cheat a little bit more (getting productivity bonuses). Ill second your observation...on Maso in 1.4 the AI gets absurdly far ahead of you in tech...its not a smooth transition in difficulty from Crippling. I suspect theres a big jump in the poductivity bonus
A Dog can learn and retain well in excess of a couple hundred verbal commands, in their proper context. A *really* well trained cat can log about 30, and will probably forget them if you dont work with them constantly. Not knocking cats...they make good lapwarmers, but they are not "smarter" than dogs. One of my favorite quotes from Douglas Coupland: "If dogs were 10 times as large as they are now, they would still be man's best friend. If cats
I dunno. As evil, every game is over as soon as I research Psionic Laser. Essentially a technology victory, but much, much earlier. But neutrality is much more powerful in a "general", out of the gate sense.
Thought Id post some ships from my latest game as the Cylord Technoimperium. Still early, so nothing sexy like warships yet...just utility vessels: trade, colony, constructor. Ill put up the warships as they evolve.
The only thing I use trade for is to improve relations and keep people from attacking me in early game. Agree with most of the above posters...trade should be FAR more profitable for all the effort it requires to set up, and all the limitations forced on it.
RE: to buy Colony ships or factories. It all depends on the level of difficulty, the map size, how inflated youve set the amount of habitable planets to be, and the amount of competition. On easier difficulties, with fewer competitors on a more wide open map, or if youve increased the numbers of availiable planets beyond "occasional"...buy factories. On harder difficulties(with far more aggressive and productive AI), more opponents/more crowded map area...hell yes buy
You know, youre a third of the way through a game, and you decide you hate the paintjob on your ships and youve chosen a map color thats too close to another race or doesnt stand out against the map enough. I mean in a way thats a little friendlier than editing RGB numerics in a game file somewhere (Im not sure how the metaverse would like that anyways). Just something to put in a future patch...it doesnt *sound* like somehting that would be too tough or break anything, but what do I know.<br
1) The enhancement of Plametary Ground Combat in SOME significant degree, tactical or otherwise. Its far too cursory and random...a slot machine. Random is the opposite of strategic. 2) Expanded UP gameplay...able to wheel and deal, set agendas and force votes. "Political" victories. 3) Ill reserve judgement till I see the full expanded combat in retail DA, but I want to see starship combat expanded in significant fashion, whether in full tactical sim or otherwis
In every (non-DA) game Ive ever played, the Arceans have ended up than a bigger threat than the Drengin, BUT in playing 1.4 (I never played any 1.3) I am noticing the drengin leaping ahead in technology, and not just straight military tech too, but planetary improvement and support tech. Other races are actually farther ahead in straight linear weapon research...but theyll be like the first ones to get soil and habitat improvement, and theyll get farther ahead of me ( and anyone else
I have no trouble downloading new games or extremely old games (packman!) but for games that are around 5 years old, all i can find are the crappy demo's. Click on that "TGNet" icon off to your left. Currently
Wow...learn something new every day. Just by way of trivia, Wikipedia says that Nexus:The Jupiter Incident actually IS Imperium Galactica 3...or what The project that was IG3 eventually morphed into. Im sure most of you already knew that, but I had no idea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperium_Galactica_III:_Genesis
I have always thought that ship range (efficacy of life support modules) should scale with mapsize. As it is, the whole ship range aspect of play doesnt really feel like it comes into play until youre playing on a "large" map, or greater. Its certainly not worth putting much or any research into life support systems on smaller maps. But playing on large maps takes a long time. So if you want a faster game, your forced into missing out on the games full character. Support module rang
I just got hit with pirates in my lats game (1.4). It blew. I had the game more or less won...I had my borders pushed way forward, and my borders were well defended. But the pirates spawned in well behind my lines, and they were way tougher than I think pirates should be, and they proceeded to wipe the floor with all my starbases Pirates/Barbarians should be just tough enough to test your defenses, forcing you not to leave things unfortified (*which admittedly I did, I suppose),
At the very least, other ships should be able to assist a starbase under attack. I dont understand why that is not possible. Word. This makes no sense to me at all.
M2:TW is quite a great game overall, and ushers in the look of the way a lot strategy games are going to start looking, i think ( RTS/Tactical and turn based hybrid). The Gripes ? : In the quest for more complexity and "balance", they broke a some of the battle mechanics that just "worked" in RTW. Charging is no longer as simple a matter as double clicking your target. There are convoluted undocumented instructions for getting a good charge off, but even so it j
We've been working on getting additional games on TGN, though it's admittedly been slow going of late. I will re-inquire about the titles mentioned above but there are a couple that I can pretty much guarantee won't show up: Dominions 3 and the Freedom Force series (Irrational is now owned by Electronic Arts, which runs their own digital distribution system). </ta
