I've noticed that upon resuming a 2 player vs 2 AI multi game, that the artifacts are no longer listed. They show on the main game screen with the "tick marks" on the planets but they aren't listed. I captured an AI planet with an artifact but it doesn't show in the planet panel or in my Research | Artifacts list. Seems like they've been forgotten after a save/reload.

I've had this problem right through the 5.?? releases. It's endlessly frustrating and makes a very nice desktop look like junk. If I exit a 3d game I get mispainted borders strewn everywhere with them not tracking the windows to which they belong. I know it's supposedly a Windows bug... but I never expected this sort of problem from WindowBlinds. I had similar problems with Objectdock mispainting icons under the background layer - but I think a recent release of that mig
Again thanks for the feedback Neil. I guess what puzzled me the most was that I was seeing all these same problems on a single head configuration (TV). I'm still seeing a few artifacts, but this latest version of WB does seem better so far. I guess I can only try to be patient as you work this stuff through. I'll keep a close eye on how things are performing and report back on the latest developments.
Why don't my replies bump this thread like any other forum system???!!? Ahh spoke to soon - worked this time.
I'd just like to add that I've had my PC running on the end of a TV (sole screen) and have seen exactly the same problems. Therefore I cannot believe this is a multi-screen Windows bug as was asserted above. Menus mispainting, borders painting over things they shouldn't etc. Fortunately OD+ seeeems to be behaving. AARGH. Downloading latest WB beta in the (forlorn) hope that it fixes the problems.
I have a similar problem nearly all the time with my dock in that the dock icons are displayed behind the background. A stardock rep told me that this problem is a bug in Windows (it gets confused over z ordering with screen resolution changes) but you know what - BOTH ObjectDock plus AND WindowBlinds 5 are displaying endless rendering problems of this nature with borders mispainting over menu bars and vice versa, borders disappearing, mispainted windows etc. I mean if it was occasion
Back on topic... Neil Banfield Wednesday, May 03, 2006 4:50 AM This is a bug in XP I am afraid. It gets confused about the order it should paint semi transparency in. Usually this happens after a screen resolution change and its believed to be more common on dual head setups. The best known cure is to reboot, though changing th
I'd like to see some UI fixes too to make the game more fluent to play. Like when selecting and moving ships you don't always know what they're going to do, which ship actually is going to move. Also sometimes when I make a group of ships sometimes the game deselects the whole fleet, sometimes not. Also the rally point window seems to open with a delay. It might ope
Thanks for the prompt response Neil. It's certainly very random how this behaves and I can imagine the frustration factor for the dev team. My frustration was borne out of the IconPackager creating multiplying Network Setup Wizard icons in my Control Panel (fixed by rolling back to the non beta), frequent painting errors in WB with WinFX (borders, z-ordering as described), and then problems with ObjectDock Plus and the z-ordering as
With Wb5.01 (iFlex skin), and WinFX 2.89[b].003 (h/w support enabled): - the task switcher fails to paint properly, with a corrupted background and stray graphical elements. - The zonealarm "shutdown zonealarm" dialog box is invisible and fails to paint. The taskbar preview shows the frame and an empty body. I'm also seeing a lot more WB drawing artifacts and mispaints. Hard to say if it's WinFX related or not. <br
I've rolled back to the non-beta version and following a reboot those extra icons have magically disappeared. Now to try putting the icons back in. Yep looks ok. Fingers crossed.
Since I've enabled the Control Panel option with IconPackager (3.10[b].002), and while switching icon packs, I've been seeing my "Network Setup Wizard" and "Wireless Network Setup Wizard" icons multiplaying. I've just turned off the Apogee icons, and now instead of two Network Setup Wizards I'm looking at three of the things. I've also now got three of the Wireless Wizard icons... Argh! Has anyone else seen this o
Another interesting one - just fired up my PC, and the Dock background is in front of the icons, until I click and start one of the apps...
Solved it - just re-ran the CE installer. Puzzling why the key got reset.
I've seen these problems off and on for a while now, but having just coughed up for the full Object Desktop plus ObjectDock Plus I thought I should report this stuff - and yes I full appreciate that I've got some beta stuff running (WinFX). First up we have a simple border paint problem: Notice how the border is painting over the border. I've seen these sorts
Frogboy - I'd still like your group to add something very important oo the shipyard. When you go to upgrade a ship and choose to have all the wapon mounts stay. When you click on a weapon, or a shield/aromr etc that's already - you have no idea what it is because the preview box in the lower left corner of the screen stays blank.
I've just finished a game with a recent 1.1 beta and everything ran very well - however I can no longer see a number of ship components (jewellery) that was added previously to my install via the bonus pack. I see I've still got full screen tutorials available (one of the bonus pack features) but I really can't say if anything else is available. Is there some way I can check for sure that this stuff is available and working right? <b
I've posted umpteen times in these forums but my posts (non flamage!) keep disappearing. Looking at the "My Posts" it lists my last post as months ago - which is patently incorrect. Nothing makes using forums frustrating more than posts going MIA. Very mysterious.
In 1.0D or 1.0X I purchased a ship in an attempt to stave off an incoming troop transport. Trouble was i was a turn too late and the enemy captured both my planet and my new ship. However after that the ship they captured was invisible and had no graphics. Sounds like a similar issue.
It's been in the local Gamesman stores here in Wellington for at least a week, maybe two. But then I bought online via Stardock aaages ago! Alternatively you could just nab a copy via Internet from say GPStore, Gamesman or similar e.g. http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Games/1511921.html using a funds transfer maybe.
I think one of the things at work here with regards to support that hasn't been mentioned is that joe-user thinks a beta release is something very different from what we in the software world (well old school) think of. This is directly down to the effect of endless Google and Microsoft "betas", software that gets released into the wild for extended periods with no support and yet is treated as a fully released productioon ready product by droves of users. Unsupport "beta" game patches fro
I seriously think the campaign ramps up way too quickly. I'm currently stuck on the fourth mission and it feels like I'm being beaten around the head - repeatedly. No sooner than you've beaten the first couple of missions when the DLs start totally taking you apart. They're all powerful and take no prisoners and outgun you 20 to 1. Yes it's possible to beat them but you have to have a much much greater feel for the game than those first couple of missi
Well I sincerly hope that the distributors will ship to New Zealand. Why wait? Why not order online (like me here in Wellington) and get playing asap? That said I believe Brad has stated that Auran are handling the Australasian distribution.
Am I tight in thinking you've maybe tweaked the green a little bit in this patch? Just that I kinda found it easier to pick the colours when I was last looking at the screen in question, or maybe I'm making it up.
Someone should write a song about forum trolls... and post it here. Please don't - its bad enough having Brad singing on the Poweruser podcasts...
