Just chiming in to say: no bugs here. Been running the game on my homegrown PC since release day without any CTDs or serious errors. A few quirks, but nothing that can't be worked around. also, I tried installing the game on my laptop this weekend. When I went to run the game, I got the notification that my video drivers were out of date, and then the game crashed. I wasn't able to update the drivers because the drivers from the ATI

it's a strategy game, not a space-sim.
Rally Points. When I first heard about them, I thought they would be more complicated than they would be worth... but, they are amazingly simple, and a great timesaver once you get the hang of it. And yeah, if you right-click on the blue "ship built" notification, it will auto-launch that ship and center your view on it.
I repaid them the next game by taking Iconia from them, and then trading it to the Iconian Refuge! Take that you stupid robots! That's funny. I've done that, too. I think that's probably one of the biggest strengths of the game... the fact that the AI and the personality of the AI are both so well done that you're able to forget you're pl
That site also gave "25 to Life" a 7.5 talk about drinking too much spiked iced tea... that game blows.
How many people work at Stardock? 40? And how many copies of GalCiv II have they sold? Thousands? Statistically, I would imagine it'd be impossible for there to NOT be people that run across bugs, no matter what "day and age" it is. How many movies have you seen where there was an obvious screw-up? The boom in the shot, or someone's shirt magically changing color? How many multi-million dollar movies have webpages dedicated to
I knew it! It's Flouride, right?! I knew it! I just knew the government was controlling our minds with the stuff! Fighting tooth decay my eye...... Space-flouride. It's a communist plot to sap an
while I haven't tried it, it's kind of a hard thing to imagine being successful, except maybe in a tiny map against only one or two enemies... I think they put Planetary Invasion a few steps down the tech tree in order to prevent this kind of exploit. But, I guess until I try the strategy, i won't know for sure whether or not it makes for an easy win. either way, though, I'm thinking the devs probably should have renamed the "Normal" A
There seems to be a few different groups of people here, as far as the ship design aspect goes: 1. Why waste my time designing my ships when I could be kicking the Drengin in the teeth?? 2. I love the ship builder! Unfortunately, my artistic talent limits me to drawing stick figures and making ships with the engines on backwards. 3. I love the ship builder! In fact I'm so good, my ships produce their own influence points because
Depends on whether or not you're planning on taking the galaxy by force. If yes, then I would say evil is probably superior. otherwise, I'd say not necessarily. The short-term benefits of being evil are obviously better than being good. but all the benefits of being good (and neutral, too) are based around fairly significant economic, technological and loyalty/morale bonuses. So whatever losses in money and production you take by choosing the good and neutral choices are m
Yeah, off the top of my head, the Drath start with Ion drive as well. As Linthar said, you'll notice if you trade for a tech that's a couple slots down the line from what you currently possess, you can then start your research from that point. For example, if you start with just regular hyperdrive, and trade for Impulse drives, you can immediately begin researching impulse drive mk. II without having to research ion drives first.
In the future, technology has come far enough that robots do all our work, research, and farming. As a result, people get bored easily and spend the majority of their time making sweet, sweet love.
Cool. Thanks for the link, BlueDev. That's a handy little program.
My early planet grabbing strategy is to crank up Research to at least 50%, then about 41% industry, and 9% military. Since you can buy a bunch of colony ships right away, you don't really need to have any military spending until you get low enough on cash that you have to start building them yourself. And this way, you can research the early techs in 1 or 2 turns, making it easier to rush to impulse drives for even faster planet-grabbing. With population, it's a tough balance... lar
actually, it seems fairly realistic to me. The way I understand it is, it's not a matter of having enough people working hard enough, it's a matter of funding. So, basically, you have your tax rate, which brings money into the gov... then you have the overall industrial spending slider which dictates how much money you're putting into your industry, which will obviously be less if you have a lot of maintenance costs for ships and buildings... and then below that, you have t
if you want to mess around with the large ship hulls, there's a scenario called "Battle of the Gods" or something similar... I'm at work and can't remember exactly... but, in that scenario, everyone starts with all the techs already researched, so if you load that up you can play around with all the available ship parts. edit: yeah, what he said.
yeah, this week has been hell. I haven't gotten to sleep before 1 am any night since the game came out. I got home yesterday and loaded it up right after work, just to spend "a few minutes" taking a look at the new collector's edition ship parts... 2 hours later, I was halfway through a game I never intended to start. I finally tore myself away and made dinner... then came back, and decided to take my time to create a custom race and game, and then save it so I could just jump ri
the Stardock folks are usually hanging around the boards, so I'm sure one of them can help you better than any of us. But here's the page for Stardock contact info. I'm sure if you send an email to Sales or Customer Support, they can help you with getting a CD shipped: Link And Frogboy did create a thread explaining about the shortage of retail CDs, if you're at all interested:<b
Everytime you want something, you need to give them 2 or 4x the value of the desired tech; but I think what happens with them, they take turns being the aggressor and so are able to combine their research. I'm playing a game on Normal difficulty right now where this is obviously happening, even the most pathetic AI empire is most
um... not sure if you know this, but even if you buy just the download version of the game, stardock will ship you a boxed copy if you want. all you have to do is pay shipping and handling. and I'm not sure why you're made at 2k... as far as I know, 2k games didn't have anything to do with GalCiv2... I thought Stardock published it themselves. i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here.
I'm no expert either, but I'd say the fact that you're just building one of everything on your planets is your first problem... you should have some kind of general strategy in mind when playing--focus on culture, military, or economy, etc--and then build to supplement that. As far as tips, one of the things I've tried a couple times and has worked very well is when starting the game... I immediately focus my economy on Social projects
Man, I want to join just because of the Calvin and Hobbes reference.
Another tech support/helpdesk person here... just wanted to chime in and say I can totally sympathize with having to deal with willfully ignorant users. Even getting paid to ONLY deal with people like that is enough to drive someone insane, so I can't even imagine what it's like to have to deal with it, along with fifty other things that come with developing and releasing a game. the sad fact is, most people would rather complain than put in the
there is already a free cam option. If you click on the button to the left of the "done" button in the lower-right corner, it'll jump through all the options. the free cam is controlled the same way as moving around the main map--left click and drag, mouse wheel in and out, hold down third-button to rotate, etc.
