I'm getting the same error too!: "An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,,@Deskscapes" and sometimes debugger popups up showing error in DeskScapesShellXP.dll!00e56380() as well [e digicons]X([/e] The reason I got Object Desktop 2009 is for Deskscapes and it didn't work... Hope the issue will be resolved soon.

What you can't see in the screenshot is that you can now pan with the left-click drag so managing much larger ships is much easier now. It should really free up how ships are made. Refering to the

That seems to me to be suboptimal. By always allowing the attacker to get the first shot and having his entire fleet be able to fire before the enemy, an important and fun element of this game becomes marginalized. I think this is a flaw, which, perhaps, could be addressed by changing the way in which initiative in battle is hand

Easy: 1. PROBLEM: Hard to find the tiny blue dot showing ship destination in 3D tactical view; although ship route is shown in mini-map, it's hard to tell which tiny dot is the currently selected ship... SOLUTION: Draw ship route on the 3D tactical view with the destination in big blue circle; and in mini-map, draw a thick blue circle around the currently selected ship/object (kind of a "You are here!" arrow will do as well) <img src="h

Take one cargo hull, add one weapon, and as many sensors and engines as will fit. Proceed to run roughshod all over the enemy by destroying EVERY SINGLE colony ship, constructor, unarmed base, scout, or other unarmed ships they make. Meanwhile run circles around any poky combat ships the AI laughably tries sending after you. This is Caused by

However, you later realize that this auto updating feature creates wild swings in the social production, thus potentially turning an overall positive income into a negative one arbitrarily. Since this can happen at any time, it can be very confusing for a neophyte. Not only that, even for a veteran, it can be dangerous should it

But a good multiplayer game has to be far more streamlined. You don't want to have core features that encourage users to do anything but move their units and make their decisions efficiently. Take a look carefully at any decent multiplayer games recently and notice how efficient they are. Efficient is great in a multiplayer game. But in a single player game, there is so

If only habitable planet were shown, the AI would gun straight for them, they start with the star tech. While you would be bumping into planetless stars, the AI would colonize everything. Be thankful they are there. Surely, the AI would know where the habitable planets are!!! The unuseable Class 0 planets

Easy: 1. Regarding the ships/planets list window (that pops up on left of screen), now can only centre on ship by double-clicking the icon. Should make it easier such that even when double-clicking anywhere in the entire box (text description area), will also centre on ship/planet. 2. When I want my fighter to intercept and attack an enemy ship, it should be as simple as right-clicking on the enemy ship. Now what happens seems to be like this (a bug?): on next turn, my ship flies

wonder if we would be able to change the game mechanics too, specially make the combat more interesting, like add some real tactics ala Stars!, remove fleet ship count limit, add jammers, etc. And also remove the "Speak To" super-espionage bug

and the people who get random CTDs while playing, we think the heat issue will resolve most of that). But we're still working on those. There doesn't appear to be anything intrisically wrong with the code as you se

I don't necessarily agree with the reviewer that the lack of tactical combat is a minus, but *shrugs* I agree almost completely with everything else said. I'm extremely disappointed that the combat/weapons system is so simplified: opponents just take turns to 'alpha strike' each other <img src="http://ima

Where are the Saved Games saved??? Is there an alternate location as I can't find them at all since both these folders are missing: "C:\Documents and Settings\%username\My Documents\GalCiv2" or "D:\MyDocs\GalCiv2" (PS: the actual "my doc" are redirected to d: and no longer in default c: so where in the world did the save games go to?) <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/S

Windowed mode is working, but you just can't see the window frame and tastk bar, because the game is still at 1024*768, or the exact equivalent of your desktop. 0_o ...balooney... so that's it? I can't reduce the game screen rez, so what's the use of windowed-mode if it fills up the entire screen anyway!?!?!? <img src="http://images.stardock.

i want to be able to tell the Torians the stay out off my primary star system, how to do that? it's very frustrating (& humiliating, thx goodness it's not the pinkskins) that they can simply fly their colony ship in quietly and set up shop right next to my Drengin homeworld! GalCiv should alert when others encroach on our systems, and let us choose an amongst options like "Get lost now , or else it's war"

Easy: 1. Game should default to auto-save each turn, with backlog of 5 saves. (b'cos it's a pain to have it crash and revert to 12 saves earlier) (GalCiv2 hung on me twice in a row 2. Game should default to "don't rotate view back on middle-mouse-button release". (i thot it's a bug until i found the the setting hidden somewhere in options) 3. More meaningful help:<b
