You know...one of these days I'm going to get a huge cowboy like belt buckle that says RTFM...perhaps much like the beloved Troll song someone will make a RTFM song to attach to posts like this. Sorry bud but the answers you are looking for could be more quickly answered by simply READING your manual.

Nice clean code is so refreshing. I've seen things that would make an experienced programmer cry....in terror at the idea of debugging it. Even without the code example, it is obvious that the AI uses scouts to figure out its surroundings. It's actually more obvious on larger maps rather than smaller. when you see scouts in your area of space you can be certain the ai will build colony ships imediatly for any non colonized worlds in your are
Track target or Free camera 2x speed. wish free camera was more responsive on the zoom function. Also would like to view the battle from whatever ship I click on. Cinematic camera mode needs alot more work as it switches too often and is pretty random. I'm sure these things will be addressed in the future.
Never met a piece of software that didn't need a patch or three.
I've noticed on my normal games that the AI does build up (it depends on which AI and what the situation is) and does adapt if they have the tech and money to do so. However while they might put together an effective and finacialy effiecient fleet that would take out my ships one on one and sometimes a fleet. They definately don't seem to be taking into account thier surrounding or the fact that my DeathStar of a space station is giving meg
LoL ...no really LOL... ..oh man..ok sorry sorry. This is just too funny. The screen Dims on purpose whenever the game auto-saves. So you got all worried over nothing. It will say saving at the bottom of the screen as well.
hopefully in the future minor civ AI can be adjustable like the major race AI. Also ...what difficulty were you playing on?
Theoretically, being able to fine tune a race too your choosing would balance out against the hardcoded abilities. So ..yes a custom race could be worse than the defaults or it could be better depending on how you put them together and how you play. Tip: use custom to focus on a few select abilities that go well with your play style. remember that techs will provide bonuses as well.
95% tax rate in ww2 ?! ouch... I guess being successful doesn't pay in some countries. I suppose companies with goverment contracts were exempt from the tax? I suppose that could lead to war profiteering.
engine glow/trails is a good idea for the moves left concept. Implementing it could be difficult though depending on how the game engine is set up. Having to rewrite sections of their graphics code is probably not a task to look forward too when the idea could be implemented easier in another way.
Yes anti-aliasing can be hard on some cards. Most modern cards try to give you anti-aliasing for free....that is you can run it without a performance hit, but that obviously isn't entirely true. Turning off AA is a good idea if you are having problems.
Curious.... what is the amount of ram on your systems. what is the amount of ram on your video/graphics card/adapter. what size map did you play and how many opponents did you play that game? This info will help stardock understand your issue...if it's an issue at all. Please be aware that on a Gigantic map with max setting and max players will take about 1200mb of ram to play through to the end. If your system is 256 or 512mb and 64mb
Um ... well since it's the same from galciv 1 it basically works like this: Your tax income is say 100bc per turn for the empire. You set spending slider to 100%. This is now spending all of your goverments tax revenue on military, social, and research. Your income might go negative now because of costs coming from upkeeps, tributes, leases etc...(trade can really help here) Your sliders on military, social, and research determi
Yor... because I don't think the yor have ever made it past mid game ever since galciv1. Seriously they are useless, ineffectivly evil, mac using loosers. They always get dominated. They are nothing but a bunch of malfunctioning legacy hardware with legs....actually do they have legs? They should be the true scourge of the galaxy..but nooooo. I've got a toaster that works better than they do. I like the korx though...kind of remind me of gre
On Gigantic maps playing a full house you will run into lag from scratchdisk access if you do not have at least 1gig of ram. My system has peaked at 1128 mb of ram use playing this game on such large maps. If you have 512 try playing only medium maps with 5 races and check what your system peaks at by mid game. I'm guessing this map size should work well for a 512 system. Also be aware that a 5200 is really really bad card. If your strapped for cash yo
Frogboy...I mean Brad, there are already games that can cause heat issues. Primarily the newer FPS engines. F.E.A.R is a good example of pushing ones system to the max. People actually blew out their vid cards and power supplies with this game on systems with poor components. FEAR would turn my system into a space heater. A number of titles now use frame throttling to control temp issues. These titles usually are throttled to 60fps. Techni
Someone should write a song about forum trolls... and post it here.
Since maps are randomly generated you will find that at times there will be almost too many systems on a gigantic map. (you can use ctrl n to generate a new map at start) I'm playing a gigantic map now set to evenly spaced ,max star, and max planet. There is almost always 3 systems per sector with 5 planets and there is always a sector with at least one star system minimum.....that is a whole lot of planets on the map. there are over 3000 planets on t
You can still purchase Moo2 or get Moo1 off of Abandon ware sites. By comparison to today's standards it has some problem areas but overall it is still a classic and very enjoyable. Moo3 was an incredible let down. Moo3 was like an Uwe Boll film. Horrible. Galciv is like going to watch Serenity for the first time after watching an Uwe Boll film. Delightful breath of fresh air. Moo3 had some interesting new ideas in it but the game
You know...there are so many post like this on this site you begin to wonder if people have some horrible aversion to reading the manual. Hate to say it bud, but RTFM! pal.
yep.. Prison planet
babbages.....We salute you......
nice article Brad. I did Operating System support for microsoft for two years. Some of the problems people have that are clearly user error and their inability to listen or follow instructions to solve their problems is truly maddening at times. Let's just say the dumb user jokes floating around out there can't hold a candle to some of the things I've had customers do and say. Thank god for Mute switches on our head sets so people wouldn't hear us la
I believe there was a series of books..(to wield a red sword .. I think?) which I believe that were written or co-written by tracey hickman that was about a world where everyone and just about everything used "magic" if it didn't have magic it was considered dead. Well there was this "stargate" like device on the planet that activated one day and in came a bunch of soldiers and scientists from earth whom the locals considered "dead" since they didn't
While it certaintly is a let down that one doesn't have there shiny new plaything in there hands when it was expected, it is incredibly unfair to scream and cry about how horrible Stardock is when they are one of the last few developers out there willing to bendover backwards for their customers( and bending over backwards is painful if not expensive which is why most other company's don't bother). Reality Check: Stardock can do NOTHING at t
