I do agree the current scheme for PUBLISHERS and the music and movie industries is largly about getting you to pay for crap...multiple times preferably through drm and other methods. For the record: I am for company's that let you use a program unhindered for 48hrs to 30days. Plenty of time to evaluate a product. Very few game company's do this but if they did you better believe they would be making a better value product. <b

Brad has mentioned that they will be making future updates to how the ship builder works, so as to make it more intuitive and robust. But I would think that is a major project so you may need to wait a few months for something to come together on that.

Gotta love how kids these days try to justify stealing something. Hey doood, I like stole your car off the lot because I wanted to see if I would buy it later. Lucky for you maaan I like the way it handles so maaaybe next week I'll give you some cash for it bro. well, while unauthorized software use probably can't be directly related to stealing a car, you are enjoying the benfits of ones labor without offering any sort of compensation. Now

This erm "idea", wouldn't be a good pursuit for furthering the vision of Galciv2 and would waste precious man hours that could be doing something usefull that actually improves the current design scheme of the game. This "idea" would be better suited to a mod that someone could put out. I personally don't think it would be all that fun to be honest unless the mechanics of how fleet combat worked deepened greatly to further enrich the strateg

Stardocks method is truly the best way to do things. They actually made more sales doing it the way they currently are then if they had used something like starforce or a rootkit. I always check on a game before I buy to see if it has some kind of nasty DRM. There are plenty of games I would like to get, but if they have starforce or Securom7 then I just pass it by. I can't afford to have that crap running on my machine since I do plenty of critical wo

Lol...how sad. You have to be real careful with some developers these days. Mentioning piracy is like yelling bomb in an airplane, they freakout and get rid of you. They probably banned you because they felt what you said would start a long thread on piracy...which they feel the talk of would somehow create piracy of their game....even though they use that Lovely invasive copyprotection StarForce on it. It's also possible they somehow thoug

Sure there will be but it will be years before you see one. Lets see.... the only two major space sim games to come out in the last two years were Universal Combat a World Apart (a pretty good sandbox style space sim made by an independit) and somewhat new X3 or whatever its called (it was buggier than a house full of termites but supposedly alot is fixed now) both games require a pretty top of the line system either due to graphics or for the simulat

The problem is that space sims such as Freespace2, Alliance, I-war (arrgh that game was sooo good) Freelancer, etc... have all turned out to be high cost investments with low return. The market group for this game type is to small to offer enough income to make a profit on. The ONLY way you are going to see any new high quality game of this type is either: 1. somebody crazy enough takes the finacial risk. 2. This game type is combined wi

Isn't it obvious? It's because on the Starbase, you don't have to pay sales tax! Well that is until their state taxes inform them they have to account for all off planet purchases and pay taxes on them. If you thought the Dregin Empire and Yor collective were something to worry about, wait until you meet the IRS (intersteller revenue service)in an audit. In space no one can hear you scream...

If memory serves (sometimes it doesn't), I believe Mister Donut has annoyed people about all this before... but if I'm confusing him with someone else then I appologize in advanced. Please note that the latest version of the game fixes most of if not all major issues. There are some things that still need a bit of tweaking but they really don't affect game play in any major way. The game was still very enjoyable and playable out of the box.

SOMEtimes the minor AI will be agressive and go conquer people. Sometimes they are really good at defending themselves. Most of the time they are just there to act as a source of trade, influence, and fodder. Carinoids are the most interesting as they will usually steal ALL the tech one of the other players has at some point and offer it for planets. Snathi supposedly can be dangerous from time to time. Dark Yor...not sure, I hear they too c

I'll never buy another thing from you again. Stardocck SUX!!111 seriously though. planet tile bonuses are generated randomly based on a formula. I've had class 18 and 20 planets with several high level bonus tiles on them. I've had small planets with no bonuses. It's just luck of the

Lol...come on, don't you read what the random events say?! This is a random event that pops up from time to time. It goes back to normal after a number of turns. It's not a bug. just like all the other events that people confuse with bugs are not bugs. Think of it like this: when you start a game, imagine a deck of cards labeled events being shuffled and placed next to the game board. When a certain roll is made a card is chosen from the top

Don't forget Yor have 100%loyalty. seriously can't understand why the yor always get smacked down in games but when I play with them its like I'm a wargod. definately my favorite race to play for warfare. perhaps the yor need an ai tweak to give them some teeth. Technically the Yor should be worse than the drengin since they want to exterminate all organic life with cold calculated effieciency. I kind of see them as either A: deceptigons or B: the Mac

Hey thanks alot Yarlen. I see myself getting some future titles from TG.net then. I was worried that since alot of the games were not published by stardock that they might have Starforce, Securom7 or some other deritive of those schemes. I despise Starforce on principle of what it actually does under the hood and Securom7 is a buggy p.o.s that seems to only work on the hardware they specify (hddvd and blueray are only going to make this issue worse). They either don't have the option because: 1. no contact 2. close relations or alliance or they just made peace. I believe a few turns must past before going to war again? not sure. Their political party/government won't let them go to war that turn. It happens to the player so it must happen to the AI. 3. can't get there. (not sure on this one)

Luck can be surprisingly good when you have it maxed out (combined with party that has luck). It's great when you have a tech oriented race as you will find lots and lots of precursor ships to protect you while you continue to focus on tech. That said...tech victory is long and boooring (it's really only viable when your unlikely to win any other way). Conquest victory is long and challenging/or entertaining. Cultural victory can be easier.

what I do is start a Battle of the Gods scenario. (all tech available) Then I choose the hull type I want to work on when setting up the game. Then when the game starts I go to the shipbuilder and start with the smallest hull first. I proceed to create a "core" ship design without any weapons, defence or modules. I then save my ship designs with the title CF Fighter, Heavy Fighter, Corvette etc... (cf is for

I doubt spore will make a fall launch. The 30 min video demo of the game with will wright is very very impressive. Like BLOW your freakin MIND impressive, but the game is definately a sandbox game like the sims...so if you hated the sims you will hate this game too. Will and crew said they are still working out what to do with somethings, especially the Galatic level of the game isn't feature complete yet. The game might be out in time for Christmas...

Lol I remember the backlash IGN got on MOO3 it was uuugly. The reviewer was obviously smoking something. In fact does that reviewer still work for IGN? I noticed that he tended to rate fairly high for games when he probably shouldn't have. I bought MOO3 based on that review...ooops big mistake. I tried to like MOO3 based on it's own merits and not comparing it to MOO2. There were things to like but the bad out wieghed the good. To many fundemental desi

Sadly as a former tech, I can attest that most people don't understand what Malware, Spyware, Trojans, viruses..etc ..are. Most people don't understand there systems at all or how to print. Most people don't know what DRM is or why it's the downfall of civilization as we know it. Most people don't know what the RIAA or the MPAA is until they get sued into the ground by them. Most people don't know what Fair Use is or what it entails. Most people d
